I'm cutting back on the beef liver. I'm going to try some lamb liver which has a little less copper per ounce next order from Miller's.

The seasonings have really helped me get the organs down. I've been putting them on everything and it all tastes really good. I just ordered brain, liver, kidney, and heart. I've been able to eat organs with every meal. I had 1 oz liver for breakfast, 1 oz kidney for lunch, and for dinner I'll have .5 oz heart. Yesterday I had some brain and liver. Best part is it all tastes good and I'm not forcing it down.

General Discussion / Re: Most ideal coconut oil??
« on: January 17, 2014, 03:08:30 am »
I personally prefer the coconut meat. I'm not saying coconut oil isn't an option if that's what you choose to do. But coconut meat has other stuff that's good too - protein, fiber, etc. I eat a little more than 3 oz of coconut meat daily.

Here's the nutrition data for coconut meat and coconut oil.

http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/nut-and-seed-products/3106/2 - coconut meat.

http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fats-and-oils/508/2 - coconut oil.

As you can see the coconut meat has various vitamins and minerals, some fiber, protein, and at most a very modest amount of actual carbs (5 grams carbs per 283 calories), while the oil is pure fat with no vitamins, minerals or anything else.

True, true.

I just feel there's a lot of bad advice thrown around. If it's not members specifically promoting the exact things they're doing that's working for them. It's writing off all symptoms as detox. I think a sticky thread in the newbies area titled "Is It Actually Detox?" may be a good idea. (If you can't tell I've kept quiet for some time lol)

It could address the ever common "I'm having loose stools from my organic/green wise-publix beef," and the "I'm having a lot of trouble staying full, I'm eating 800 calories of lean meat daily while trying to avoid anything that's a plant," and the like. We've all seen memebrs legitimately write these off as "detox" and "needing less calories on a raw diet."

If you decide to take the Geodon, make sure you measure your blood glucose, as Geodon can raise BG (per www.geodon.com). I haven't used the drug myself, and didn't know what it was, so out of curiosity I googled it and the first hit mentioned that.

Have you noticed any benefits from the methylfolate yet? Do you take methylcobalamin with it, which is supposedly "needed to allow the methylfolate to do its job"? http://mthfr.net/methylfolate-side-effects/2012/03/01/

I've been taking the geodon lol. My blood sugar is fine. I'm actually getting off it.

The methylfolate works pretty well. I definitely notice benefits. But I always do when I add something lol. And I do use methylcobalamin B12. My b complex and multivitamin both have it, and I also use a sublingual spray.

I just ate my first meal of seasoned food. I had .5 oz of brain, 4.5 oz lamb, and 2 oz beef fat. I used every season I ordered lol - oregano, basil, onion and more. It really made the food taste good, and kind of makes me feel more human. I'm not used to really enjoying what my food tastes like.

About my choice to use seasonings. I've been thinking about it, and I really disagree with instinctive nutrition. I don't believe animals eat what they eat based on taste, but rather on the tastes they've become accustomed to. I recently saw a documentary on farmers who switched their cows from feed lots to pastures. And the cows had no idea what they were doing in the fields.

They had to teach them how to eat grass, and they still had a lot of trouble because they weren't used to it. And I see that same behavior all over the place - cats not wanting raw meat, dog being accustomed to junk food too. I noticed I have a similar preference too.

All I wanted to eat was muscle meat, which I grew up eating. I didn't really like fish, which I rarely ate growing up. And organs are disgusting, which I literally don't remember eating even once growing up. So now I'm seasoning my food, and I can get it down - organs and all.

And I actually enjoy the food. Before I was wolfing it down, and I feel food is meant to be enjoyable as well as nourishing.

Another thing I've noticed is that every healing group - whether it's the specific carbohydrate diet yahoo group, GAPS diet yahoo group, iodine protocol yahoo group, or RPD forum all share one common ideology. All you need is specifically what our group focuses on for optimal health. This one healing protocol will resolve all your health problems.

On the SCD yahoo group I couldn't mention iodine or a raw diet without it being invalidated with the poorest evidence - as happens here. On the iodine yahoo group I couldn't mention a raw diet, SCD or even Vitamin K2 without it being deemed "unnecessary on the iodine protocol." And the same occurs here.

On the SCD yahoo group, I remember someone saying how Lugol's is toxic because WikiPedia cites that consuming a whole bottle of the 5% is toxic. Here the orthomolecular protocols are viewed as unnecessary (frequently).

So I do deviate from the norms here, as I deviate from the norms at all the healing websites. But that's because I accept there's more to health than one mode of healing.

A lot of times when a car isn't running properly, there's more than one thing wrong. Same is true for humans.

Sure HCA's, rancid nutrients, and the oxidized thing produced from them in the body are bad. But so are halogens, Vitamin K2 deficiency, low levels of fat soluble vitamins, not getting the active B vitamins, and much more.

I've had tremendous success with this approach and I mention it so others who perhaps have noticed similar things will know to be open minded when they don't get the results they want from any one healing protocol. Perhaps RPD, or the iodine protocol, or something else doesn't work. But that might just mean you need more than that one protocol. Had I not taken that approach and stuck to the dogmatic suggestions that members here encourage, I know my health today would not be what it is.

I'm increasing my dose of methylfolate today. I took 2.5 mg with breakfast and I'm going to take anther 3.3 mg with lunch. I've been taking 6 pills of the calclium hydroxyapatite (1,500 mg cal w/ 600 mg phos) daily. I'm consuming about 40 g spinach (for the Vitamin K1) daily with 3 oz of coconut meat to enhance absorption (fat soluble vitamin), while continuing with 5 mg Vitamin K2 w/ each meal (2 oz beef fat). Iodine has been 20 mg daily. Still consuming lots of Real Salt (2+ tsp daily). I've started eating some organs, I had 1 oz yesterday and 1 oz today, while taking half a tsp FCLO (200% DV Vitamin A). I also ordered seasonings from Pennzey's spices (SCD legal) in case I dislike the taste of certain organs.

I've been looking into the geodon more as I get closer to 3 months of 10 mg. I'm seeing that the amount given to pediatric patients is generally the same amount I'm taking now or more, never less.

http://www.drugs.com/dosage/ziprasidone.html - lists upwards of 10 mg, generally 20 mg and higher for pediatrics.

I've had doctors tell me that 40 mg was to low to have the effects it's supposed to have on someone of my age/size. I'm considering discontinuing the geodon altogether once I've hit the 3 month mark. According to my journal October 25th, 2013 is when I started the 10 mg, so January 25th I'm making plans to see my doctor and discontinue it.

I got my results back for the MTHFR genetic mutations. I have two copies of the mutation A1298C, or as the results say, "A1298C/A1298C." I'll be looking into it to see of what significance it is.

From - http://genetics.thetech.org/ask/ask425

"People talk about them because they sometimes (but not always) can cause problems. For example, having one or both of them can put you at a higher risk for heart problems or having a child with birth defects. You could also be at a slightly increased risk for nerve defects and even schizophrenia."

The two copies means I got one from each parent.

http://mthfr.webs.com/

Possible signs associated with A1298C MTHFR Mutations

    elevated ammonia levels
    decreased dopamine
    decrease serotonin
    decreased epinephrine and norepinephrine
    decreased nitric oxide
    elevated blood pressure
    muscle tenderness
    ulcers
    pre-eclampsia

The doctor suggested increasing my dose of methylfolate. I've been taking 2.5 mg, and I'm considering increasing it to 5 mg and seeing how that goes.

Daboss, you really think it's difficult to get mg from animal foods? Have you really thought that out?

Yes, I can't find legitimate high potency sources of magnesium from animal foods like I can for Vitamin A (liver), CoQ10 (heart), etc. Even the Weston Price Foundation doesn't make mention of any high potency animal foods - http://www.westonaprice.org/vitamins-and-minerals/magnificent-magnesium

You were incredibly vague in what you've been eating. All we know is that you've cut out grains and sugar. What are you eating? There's no way of really determining what's going on with such little information.

While it could be withdrawal from the carbs. It could also be you're not eating any fat. It could also be you aren't getting enough sodium. It could be a lot of things. It's impossible to give a good assessment with the little information you've given.

Coconut meat, coconut meat everywhere! Lol I bought 4 big coconuts and got ALL the coconut meat out. I now have 3 big wide mouth mason jars full of coconut meat - 1,300+ grams. I'll be eating 3 oz daily with breakfast.

That's a lovely property. Good luck selling it!

I increased my calcium consumption yesterday. I started taking 500 mg calcium and 200 mg phosphorous 3x daily from the NOW brand calcium hydroxyapatite supplement I use. I was taking 500 mg calcium and 200 mg phosphorous 2x daily before.

I'm thinking that I'm getting enough vitamin K1 and K2, fat soluble vitamins, magnesium and other minerals that my body's ability to put minerals in the bones should be functioning well. So I'm experimenting with more calcium and phosphorus for now.

243
You think that with proper amounts of k2 your body can't adequately and healthfully resolve alleged issues of cal/mag?

Not necessarily. The body needs magnesium and calcium, both should be consumed in relatively even amounts. Milk is a relatively poor source of magnesium, and there aren't many animal foods that are very high in magnesium. A lot of RAF'ers choose to eat minimal amounts of plant foods.

One cup of milk has 276 mg of calcium - http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/69/2

To compare, shell fish which has often been touted as being a magnesium power house has 39.5 mg magnesium per 6 medium shell fish - http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/finfish-and-shellfish-products/4189/2

Most animal foods aren't very high in magnesium. But assuming you were to consume equal amounts of calcium to magnesium from just those two foods, you'd need about 41 medium shell fish for every 1 cup of milk to get a 1:1 ratio (the ratio that many think we evolved consuming). That sounds like a lot of shell fish.

I wouldn't say either of those are inherently "dangerous," therefore I wouldn't say they're not safe.

With supplements there are some times different forms and different types can yield different results. Different forms of magnesium absorb differently. For example the natural calm you linked gave me loose stools at 250 mg. However I can take 300 mg magnesium glycinate + 450 mg magnesium chloride + 250 mg magnesium taurate with no loose stools.

In general L-ascorbic acid is the type of vitamin c found naturally in foods, and the best kind in supplements. For magnesium generally the ones bound to amino acids are the best ones. Magnesium chloride is also really good, when it's placed in water the magnesium disassociates from the chloride forming individual magnesium ions which absorb well. Generally magnesium citrate (like in natural calm) isn't very good.

As far as avoiding additives, I stick to the recommendations of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Generally avoiding things like lactose, gluten, rice powder, etc. is good.

Here's a link for legal SCD additives - http://pecanbread.com/new/Sup1.html - not necessarily advocating going that route, but it does avoid most of the really bad additives.

Here's a pretty decent article from the Weston Price Foundation on supplements - http://www.westonaprice.org/health-issues/dietary-supplements

245
This is irrelevant since many of the studies focus on the harm done by excess calcium or hormones, both of  which are present in raw dairy as well as pasteurised dairy.

In regards to the calcium, it's likely it was done on feed lot milk which is very low in Vitamin K2. Pastured raw milk is generally very high in Vitamin K2, which helps direct the calcium where it needs to go. Supposing there's sufficient Vitamin K1 being consumed along with the raw milk, it would prevent the calcification of soft tissues. Still doesn't address the imbalance of mag and cal though.

There is a lot of magic in raw meat and raw fat... my driver attests to his 4 years of erectile dysfunction cure with raw beef... he describes the opening of his once dead blood vessels on his penis... and he is now a full fledged playboy... chicks left and right.

That's interesting. There could be so many factors contributing to fixing his ED - Vitamin K1+K2 unblocking calcified penile veins/arteries, raw arginine and lysine. Who knows. Cool though.

247
which of these studies (if any) used raw rather than pasteurized dairy to reach their conclusions?

Hey man! Welcome back. The answer is probably none.

I recently started taking B2 also, so I am also taking all those now, coincidentally. I haven't noticed anything yet from these vitamins, like I did with P5P, high quality zinc, potassium, magnesium and resistant starch. Maybe I'm not taking high enough doses of them yet.

Out of curiosity what zinc, potassium and magnesium are you using?

What doses are you taking?

I'm actually decreasing my B vitamin consumption except for niacin. I'm taking half a pill twice daily of my B complex (from GI Pro Health), which is 25 mg each dose. 10 mg methylfolate pill broken into 4 doses, one daily. 25 mg P5P once daily. And a 36.5 mg riboflavin-5 phosphate divided into 4 pills once daily, so about 9 mg. I'm still taking 1,000 mg niacin 3x daily.

I decreased them because I was getting detox from the folinic acid. Since eliminating the folinic acid I've been much better. But I still notice that the 10 mg methyfolate dose is to much for me. Dr. Lynch also says that those high doses are generally unnecessary, and can produce harsh detox symptoms. I'm taking it easy with the active forms of the B vitamins (B2, B6, folate, B12) because I rather er on the side of caution than trigger detox symptoms.

Ate my first organic raw steak yesterday, and then had liquidy stools this morning.   I guess its transition time.  Would love to hear peoples experiences when they first started eating raw meat.

When you say you had your first organic raw steak, was it also grass fed? It's possible it wasn't grass fed and that's why you got loose stools.
