Wild harvested
« on: February 03, 2010, 04:09:06 am »
I apologize if this topic has already been discussed but I did not see it in the forums. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to start when learning about how to wild harvest your own food. After starting a raw diet I would much rather get my food myself for optimum nutrients. Eventually I plan to get a hunting licence and hunt my own food. In the mean time, does anyone have any resources on how to harvest my own honey and fruits and veggies? I'm having a difficult time finding books on local plants and am wondering if there's an easier way to go about it. Thank you in advance!

go to the library and pick up books
search for books on edible and medicinal plants
spend a lot of time outdoors or in neighboorhoods
make mental maps of where plants are....listen for birds and find berries, fruit or seed
look in your neighbors back yard, do they have fruit trees? alleys are great

see if there are any classes offered by nature centers, colleges....
hook up with a local apiary
gather seeds in the fall of local wild plants and plant them near you

What state are you in?  There's probably a local foraging group or groups, like a wild food enthusiast club.

Thanks for that link. That school looks incredible, me and my girlfriend are both planning to attend this school now.
