spider veins on raw paleo
« on: July 18, 2010, 04:38:01 am »
Hi all,

for a couple of weaks I am on a raw paleo diet and since then I have a massive proliferation of spider veins.
I paniked and added veggies and sprouts back to my diet and cut meat and fish to max 100 g per meal. I dont know I someone has experinced something like that or nows how to prevent it. I really need to know the reason because I have to stop it. Thought perhaps it could be the massive amounts of fat I eat just to keep my weight (and also as a goal to gain weight) I often feel so heavy and sluggish after a mealwith lots of fat  for a long time and if I my blood flow is as sluggish as how I feel than it is not so amazing that the circulation is hindert I think.
I also thought about why is it that there are mostly men on this forum. Is it that this diet is not so beneficial  for women because to heavy in protein or fat or to acid or I dont know?
I would love to  find my way on this diet because I think paleo is really cool.
And I absolutly have to stop this spider veins buissnes.
Would it perhaps help to eat more fish or less fat or whatever???
At the moment I eat 3 or 4 times a day fatty meat or fish with some herbs and veggies, between 70 and 150 g per meal.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'spider veins'.

Edit: I guess you mean Telangiectasia.

Welcome to the forum, good luck.

Stick it out. You need to adjust to this new diet.

Try reducing the fat you're eating. You shouldn't be eating massive amounts of fat daily.  Up your intake on lean meats.
Take everyones advice with a grain of salt. Try things out for your self and then make up your mind.

From wikepedia, don't know if it helps

"Varicose veins are more common in women than in men, and are linked with heredity[6]. Other related factors are pregnancy, obesity, menopause, aging, prolonged standing, leg injury and abdominal straining. Less commonly, but not exceptionally, varicose veins can be due to other causes, as post phlebitic obstruction and/or incontinence, venous and arteriovenous malformations[7]  See also for differential diagnosis- 1. Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, 2. Parker-Weber syndrome"

Ok, I try to make fotos when I go to the beach but it is just a lot of fine brocken blue veins under the surface of  my skin and this is NOT pretty.
I dont think it is hereditary, and it got clearly worse with paleo  and it makes me freak out.
Forthehunter, when I eat more lean meat, isn't it a burden for the kidneys?
And how I get all my calories. I would love to gain some pounds also.
Anyway, where are the women on this forum und why are not so mutch of it here?

It can be if you eat a lot (many pounds). It shouldn't be a problems if you eat just a couple pounds a day.
For the record I don't agree with forthehunt's recommendation as a catch all. If one's diet is high on carbohydrates on can have much less dependence on fat as an energy source (but raw quality fat is very healing so should still have a place in one's diet). The less carbohydrates one has in their diet the larger the deficit one has in energy intake which must be made up for with fat. Lean meat is not an acceptable long-term energy source.

Yeah, KD's not a woman.

Why don´t you eat fruit, coconut, walnuts, avocado etc. etc. ?
Maybe the vitamins (e. g. vitamin C) contained in fruit could be beneficial?
I have never eaten so much meat.  ???

Hi Forthhunter,

no, I don't eat so mutch meat, especially at the moment I am limiting my consomation because I am scared it could be the cause of my vein problem.
In the evening I eat fish. It should be very good for the circulatory system and prevents inflamation.
Thanks for the clarification about the fat intake. I really cant eat as mutch fat yet to meat my energy needs, it just makes me sick. Lean meat as an energy source feels also not healthy to me so I have to take some carbs in addition. Yesterday and today I eate a lot of buckwheat, mong beans, lentils and sunflower sprouts. I think in this forum you are not very fond of sprouts. I the last year I always come back to eating a lot of sprouts as energy source. Dont know so many sources of raw carb I digest well. Most fruit are to sweet for me and give me candida, veggies are hard to digest and have not so mutch kcal, and nuts are so fatty I cant eat so many. What kind of paleo carbs are the the best?

Hanna,
as I said, I dont do well with fruit. I eat some but have to be very carefull.
Avocados and Nuts I do eat but I have to improve my fat digestion I think before I can rely on fat as my main energy source.
You dont eat so mutch meat so what do you eat insted? How a typical day looks like for you regarding food intake?
I saw that you are german. I am german a well (living in france), where do you live?

Where's the pictures? Please show your face ( not just one photo with no face) and maybe a name so we know your not a raw vegan in disguise lmao.  :P  ;) Sorry, if I seem rude. But I have been reading post here and there that seem to come from a person that is anti-raw meat eating.

But seriously your situation doesn't make sense from my experience. How old are you?

Also I would recommend from my experience and success larger 1-2 meals and not smaller 3-4 meals.

:o I am included in the regulars female list. How special. I feel touched. :P

It's a good idea to wean yourself onto the diet instead of a dramatic entrance.
I started to wean myself on it in December. Now I am almost 100% meat.
Give it to us raw, and wriggling. You keep nasty chips.

I agree that there are probably lots and lots of women here - lovely "guests" who are nameless as well - and there are a lot of men and maybe some of them are very talkative. ;)  I am shy. I would share more, but my experience with RPD is limited at the moment.

I don't have much experience with spider veins... is it really that bad? I mean, is it always an unhealthy sign? Where are they located on the body, if I may ask? And, perhaps they are not as bad as you think they are..? Could it be transparency of skin that I've read about elsewhere on this forum??

I think she means like this. If you're eating enough fat to make you feel sick, then that is likely what's causing it... In the past, if I've eaten a high proportion of animal fat relative to meat, then my circulation has slowed down a lot.

I think it is bad to eat too much lean meat(proportionally!), and I don't think the answer is extra fat, or extra vegetation. I think the answer is probably to eat whole animals and get a bit of everything, but that is hard to do =/

Hi Sully,

I am definetly not a raw vegan in desguise. Not at all vegan (any more) and not 100 % raw neither.
I will post some up to date photos I think, but where can I see your pictures?
I just changed to 4 meals a day because 2 large meals I find hard to digest and also I tend to overeat with only two meals. 3 meals I did before, now I try 4 because I would like to gain weight and think that this way I can eat, tolerate more food, kcal without stuffing myself.

Hi Cinna,
How long are you on this diet and how are things going for you with paleo?
these spider veins are on my leggs, they are not big, just smal broken veins under the surface. I can live with it, just dont wont them to become more. And it is definetely not a sign of perfect health.
I wonder if I am I the only one one this board with  spider veins? Everybody askes for a description and fotos and nobody seems to know .them Strange, because when I go to the beach here almost everybody I see has it. Perhaps people in Europe are different.

miles, your picture is quite an upturn, I hope my legs will never look like this!
How did you recognise that your  circulation slowed down?
How much fat did you eat and what do you eat now.
I think you mean one should eat organs. I thought about it but I dont now where to buy it. It is so hot, the bio-butcher said it is to hot at the moment to sell organs???
I can only buy organic meat here, dont know if it is grasfed. Might be a reason for this vein problem. If the animals are grainfed I  eate a lot of Omega 6 I guess.
I would like to find a source of good animal products here in france

i have videos too www.youtube.com/s7934777

Meat is more nutritionally dense than leaves, grasses. Which is why meat eaters such as lions and humans can have their meals more spread out.

I think its more energy dense rather then nutritionally dense (minerals, vitamins) that allows us to spread out meals longer. It also takes longer to digest meat. Btw what are the berries in your pics on the plate right next to all the mulberries?

Hi noel,

What I eat differs from day to day. Most days I eat one meal of fruit and at least a bit of food of animal origin. I try not to eat too many cultivated avocados, dried nuts and fruit. I like coconut meat (e. g. pagode light, see Orkos) and it seems to have positive effects on health. You can puree it to make it more easily digestible, but I wouldn´t mix it with other food. Two of my favorite vegetables are fennel and celery.

Macro-Nutrients -> Nutrients -> Nutrition -> Nutritionally Dense
