Bitter Sweet Legumes
« on: September 24, 2008, 05:30:08 am »
There is a legume in season here in Wisconsin. i looked it up in an encyclopedia. (i don't have internet at home) But anywho it said it has a sweet pulp, I think its called HONEY LOCUST. I found the tree and tasted the pulp, just to check it out. The bean i tried too. the bean was bland, but the pulp was sweet. The skin has a bitter taste. It gave me a tiny head ache, and a little tingling in the throat but didn't last long. reminded me of the bitter skin of English walnuts.

Ahhhh....plants and their defenses. ;D

Legumes are forbidden on a paleo diet, whether cooked or raw, for a reason.

But what's the reason, though?
The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd.

But what's the reason, though?

Legumes contain antinutrients.

Thats why many raw vegans sprout them. But it only lowers toxin levels, and does not take them away completely.
