Hair Is An Extension Of The Nervous System
Why Indians Keep Their Hair Long
By C. Young
12-9-11

This information about hair has been hidden from the public since the Viet Nam War .

Our culture leads people to believe that hair style is a matter of personal preference, that hair style is a matter of fashion and/or convenience, and that how people wear their hair is simply a cosmetic issue. Back in the Viet Nam war however, an entirely different picture emerged, one that has been carefully covered up and hidden from public view.

In the early nineties, Sally [name changed to protect privacy] was married to a licensed psychologist who worked at a VA Medical hospital. He worked with combat veterans with PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder. Most of them had served in Viet Nam.

Sally said, "I remember clearly an evening when my husband came back to our apartment on Doctor\'s Circle carrying a thick official looking folder in his hands. Inside were hundreds of pages of certain studies commissioned by the government. He was in shock from the contents. What he read in those documents completely changed his life. From that moment on my conservative middle of the road husband grew his hair and beard and never cut them again. What is more, the VA Medical center let him do it, and other very conservative men in the staff followed his example. As I read the documents, I learned why.

It seems that during the Viet Nam War special forces in the war department had sent undercover experts to comb American Indian Reservations looking for talented scouts, for tough young men trained to move stealthily through rough terrain. They were especially looking for men with outstanding, almost supernatural, tracking abilities. Before being approached, these carefully selected men were extensively documented as experts in tracking and survival.

With the usual enticements, the well proven smooth phrases used to enroll new recruits, some of these indian trackers were then enlisted. Once enlisted, an amazing thing happened. Whatever talents and skills they had possessed on the reservation seemed to mysteriously disappear, as recruit after recruit failed to perform as expected in the field.

Serious casualities and failures of performance led the government to contract expensive testing of these recruits, and this is what was found.

When questioned about their failure to perform as expected, the older recruits replied consistantly that when they received their required military haircuts, they could no longer \'sense\' the enemy, they could no longer access a \'sixth sense\' , their \'intuition\' no longer was reliable, they couldn\'t \'read\' subtle signs as well or access subtle extrasensory information.

So the testing institute recruited more indian trackers, let them keep their long hair, and tested them in multiple areas. Then they would pair two men together who had received the same scores on all the tests. They would let one man in the pair keep his hair long, and gave the other man a military haircut. Then the two men retook the tests.

Time after time the man with long hair kept making high scores. Time after time, the man with the short hair failed the tests in which he had previously scored high scores.

Here is a typical test:

The recruit is sleeping out in the woods. An armed \'enemy\' approaches the sleeping man. The long haired man is awakened out of his sleep by a strong sense of danger and gets away long before the enemy is close, long before any sounds from the approaching enemy are audible.

In another version of this test the long haired man senses an approach and somehow intuits that the enemy will perform a physical attack. He follows his \'sixth sense\' and stays still, pretending to be sleeping, but quickly grabs the attacker and \'kills\' him as the attacker reaches down to strangle him.

This same man, after having passed these and other tests, then received a military haircut and consistantly failed these tests, and many other tests that he had previously passed.

So, the document recommended that all Indian trackers be exempt from military haircuts. In fact, it required that trackers keep their hair long."

Comment

The mammalian body has evolved over millions of years. Survival skills of human and animal at times seem almost supernatural. Science is constantly coming up with more discoveries about the amazing abilities of man and animal to survive. Each part of the body has highly sensitive work to perform for the survival and well being of the body as a whole. The body has a reason for every part of itself.

Hair is an extension of the nervous system, it can be correctly seen as exteriorized nerves, a type of highly-evolved 'feelers' or 'antennae' that transmit vast amounts of important information to the brainstem, the limbic system, and the neocortex.

Not only does hair in people, including facial hair in men, provide an information highway reaching the brain, hair also emits energy, the electromagnetic energy emitted by the brain into the outer environment. This has been seen in Kirlian photography when a person is photographed with long hair and then rephotographed after the hair is cut.

When hair is cut, receiving and sending transmissions to and from the environment are greatly hampered. This results in 'numbing-out'.

Cutting of hair is a contributing factor to unawareness of environmental distress in local ecosystems. It is also a contributing factor to insensitivity in relationships of all kinds. It contributes to sexual frustration.

Conclusion

In searching for solutions for the distress in our world, it may be time for us to consider that many of our most basic assumptions about reality are in error. It may be that a major part of the solution is looking at us in the face each morning when we see ourselves in the mirror.

The story of Sampson and Delilah in the Bible has a lot of encoded truth to tell us. When Delilah cut Sampson\'s hair, the once undefeatable Sampson was defeated.

Hmm, it does sound rather plausible. That said, there is no way I would want to keep my hair and beard untrimmed unless a) cultural values change in the west so that it becomes acceptable to do so in the workplace, b)  cultural values changed so that I could wear very little, such as just a T-shirt and jeans  in cold weather(wearing a beard and long hair means that I become too good at heating up my body which means I would sweat like a pig in hot weather and even in mildly cold weather if I was too warmly wrapped up in a coat and sweater).

Thanks for posting this fascinating article GS!

While I am on board 100% with the idea that hair is an extension of the nervous system, as a tracker of several years now I know of many trackers with a 'nearly supernatural' (though I would say actually supernatural) awareness, though sporting western short hair.

I believe it is easy, with the proper commitment, to develop this type off awareness, as I've experienced it myself, but it is time consuming and one must be dedicated to expanding their awareness in each moment of the day.

Techniques like prolonged wide angle vision (or owl vision), sense meditation, fox walking, and simply sitting and observing everything you can, all lead to this greater awareness (and happily, the ability to silence your mind at will). So too practicing old ways, such as sleeping outside, sleeping cold, matchless fire, stalking animals, all seem to rekindle some sort of primal awareness that would appear magical to most modern day observers.

It is really exciting stuff and has practical applications for everyone, everywhere. Think if the whole world could learn to silence their minds every time they began to feel overwhelmed or angry, or afraid.  Can you think of a situation in your day to day life where you could benefit from super acute awareness?

I work with many people of both genders who do not cut their hair for spiritual reasons. (I'm referring to whole-groups cultures whose reasons for not cutting hair are not aesthetic reasons.) I would agree with the findings of the study, but I would not explain the phenomenon as being reliant on the nervous system, as it is defined in western medicine. Saying that the nervous system is responsible for awareness is ethnocentric, IMO.

I knew this actually.. When I used to play pro ball I always felt weakness when I shaved my beard.I don't know how to explain it.. Also without a beard I look like a kid in my face so people look at me differently when I have my beard on me and girls are more attracted to me.. It's not only the hair it's the nails too.. It gives you this extra sensitivity.

Beards are way better than coarse stubble, as for my preference. I'm actually more sensitive with very short nails, so I don't keep them that way for much time.  My fingertips become too sensitive.  They are nice and sensitive a little longer or much longer.

I totally agree about the hair.  Short hair may be good for super hot weather, but otherwise if you can grow it long it feels better, doesn't matter what texture hair.

I see most of you are in agreement the more hair the better.  What about women, should they stop shaving their legs, armpits, and crotch?

A woman with a mustache should definitely shave in this modern world xD or she won't make it through the evolution where only the beautiful and strong are being picked up!

I prefer not to shave my legs for this very reason.  The hair helps me feel.  It's bordering on evil to make women shave their legs.  They should be allowed to feel properly.  That's me.  If someone feel better shaving their legs, that's their business, and I shave my legs too occasionally.

I can understand that older women might want to remove any facial hair as that is such a masculine trait, but I do find it odd that there is this modern custom of women shaving the crotch, legs, and especially armpits.

Wow... fascinating!
I used to have short hair for years, but in the last year have been growing it out, and it feels much more natural to me.  I do wax away my body hair occasionally, but usually let it pretty much grow back for awhile in between.  I wonder if body hair is as beneficial as head-hair?
When my husband grew a beard in the beginning of this winter, I ended up really liking it even though I used to not like facial hair on men.  Now it all makes sense! :-)

I'm dead serious. Women are not some new species that sprung into being with the invention of the razor. I could never figure out what shaving of legs and pits was about, so I never did it. And shaving pubes? what's that all about?

I'm not ignorant. I realize that some women do shave, but the logic of shaving escapes me. Smooth has nothing to do with it, because shaving causes stubble. Beauty has nothing to do with it, because beauty is not about hairlessness. I'm sure someone will post a list of superficial reasons for a woman to shave, so I guess it's about being superficial.

I never plucked my eyebrows. I tried waxing for a bit, but then quit.  You did mean eyebrows?

So when you say most women never started shaving you probably talk about yourself, amish women, and maybe hippies.  Most of other women not only shave, they wax.  And waxing business is booming in all metropolitan areas especially in the summer.  Most women in the metropolitan areas work in some kind of office environment.  In my 20 years living in urban area I have never seen a single unshaven woman.

Come to Chicago lakefront in the summer, thousands of women there every day, and you'll never see a single hairy leg or armpit.  Florida and California are the same thing.  You'll also never see hairy legs or armpits in the health clubs.  I can go on and on.

Yeah, since we Filipinos are short, my sister and I were laughing our heads off, for us it was a first time to see women with hairy underarms.

i believe it's actually a semi-pedophile type of thing - designed to make grown women look more like adolescent girls. (i'm female, btw.)

Yes, that's it, it's a current fashion to be shaven/waxed all over.  If most women weren't following fashion trends then publications such as Glamour, En Vogue, and about 100 others would be out of business long time ago.

No it is not.
First, adolescent girls already have their bodily hair.
Second, Pedophilia disorder affects a tiny minority of men.  Most men are not fantasizing about pre-adolescent little girls.

Prepubescent girls do not have all that hair, afaik. That's the whole point.

Perhaps older people have more hair because it is part of the nervous system and we have to have that to help us be aware and protect our smaller and younger less experienced in the world sons and daughters from over the line pedophiles.
