Hello from Brazil
« on: August 16, 2013, 05:11:28 am »
Hello everyone,

I've experimented with different nutritional approaches to health, weight loss, muscle gain, and so forth for several years. Mostly these have all been low-carb approaches. Over the last few weeks, while researching an ideal diet for my dog, I came across the BARF diet (bones and raw food), which eventually led me to looking into raw meat consumption safety which interestingly then led me to posts about Aajonus Vonderplanitz and the primal diet. I was already familiar with paleo but not so much raw paleo.

I live in Brazil and have not yet had access to AV's books but I have already changed my diet based on what I have been researching online (some about AV as well as some others).

Going through several threads in this forum has been quite helpful during this transition and has answered several questions. Now I decided to finally go from lurker to member! ;D

Great to have you here.  Let me know how your search goes for your dogs.  Mine have been fed only on raw, bones and meat, organs, eggs, fat, marrow fat..  But since I do so much better with more fat and less meat (protein) and spread out ever the day,  I have been wondering if that might best be for dogs too ( less protein, more fat, like 70/30, fat/protein.)

I've REALLY been considering this myself the past month! It seems silly to make a human on an all meat diet consume a bunch of protein with moderate fat. That's a terrible breakdown and if I ate like my dog I wouldn't have the energy I do. As we know a keto diet needs more fat and less protein, I can't imagine a dog that weighs 70 lbs to need more protein than me, though as it is, they get far more than me.

The issue is their instinct. Often when I give mine a chunk of fat they won't consume it right away. They LOVE to go hide it somewhere. This makes me wonder if they like it but it's too much for them.

Maybe we should start our own thread on it. I feel like I can learn a lot about my own raw eating through my dogs ;)

Sashimi, welcome! Tell us a bit about your health issues or goals and what your plans are for attempting raw.

We are all just doing the best we can, with what we know, at any given time.

Hi! nice to hear someone trying to fed their pets the best they can!

i'm living with 2 cats, and my parents with 2 dogs, and i'm really concerned about 1 of the dogs, that is like 15 years young

she has like something (like protuberances on their back legs, near the ribs) and i was wondering, what is like an ideal diet for a dog? is just meat fat and bones enough for them? in what proportions? they relly on fat for fuel? what is your experience on that?

if there is enough interest we can make an individual tread instead of discussing it here!
