General Discussion / Re: Types of raw fat
« on: April 09, 2018, 05:44:23 am »
Lard and tallow aren't raw...

However, here in Italy the word "Lardo" always refers to uncooked cured pig fat, whereas cooked pig fat is called "Strutto".

As for fat, lately I've been getting most of it by eating brisket (pancia) and pork ribs (rosticciana) (I can't eat all of the fat on them tho). I had pig tongue once, it was quite tasty and not as tough as cow's, maybe I'll order it again.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: How to avoid cheating

The only visible symptom of eating junk is having a bloated stomach. I won't die or anything, even tho I guess it will still lead me to having problems in life later on...

That said, today after I got my bloodwork done, I had planned to go to a bar and have a hot chocolate and some pastries, but, funnily enough, having my blood extracted made me temporarily lose all attraction to sugar, so I just went straight to the market and bought some pastured pork (liver, shoulder, ribs) to eat instead.

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / How to avoid cheating
« on: February 19, 2018, 05:57:06 pm »
I eat raw paleo for the week but always end up cheating on junk in the weekdays. This results in me being extremely bloated (I have basically zero abs muscles to keep my stomach in place, so bad food makes me look like I'm about to give birth, that's no hyperbole).

My plan is to limit my only cheat to the sushi place we visit on monday, hoping to eventually transition to 100% junk free. We'll see how it goes.

The problem is, I always have junk laying around my house because I live with my family, so what are good ways to resist or avoid temptation?

I think the real danger is from laying naked in the scorching midday summer sun after months of getting no sun exposure whatsoever besides for your face and hands - that's what most people in colder countries do, and they have the highest rate of skin cancer.

In my case, it was my mother's fault for coming into my room and leaving the door open. Then she had the audacity to blame me for it.

Anyways, I let the dog keep the meat she had stolen, I had plenty more so it was no big deal. Also, washed meat feels tasteless to me.

That's not a rumor, that farmer lady just confirmed that she HAD to so if she wanted to keep selling her milk.

Probably sheep and goat farmers have to do so as well.

Ok, so I visited the farmer lady and I got explained things in more detail.

When she wanted to start selling it, the milk from her cows was taken to a lab to be analyzed, and its values were too low. So she had to supplement it, or she wouldn't have been allowed to sell it. She looked everywhere to find non-GMO soy and corn, even just the seeds to grow 'em by herself, but the best she could find was a supplement used for the cows that make Parmigiano Reggiano.

This begs the question, do farmers in other countries also have to feed GMO soy and corn in order to be able to sell raw milk? If that's the case, that would explain TylerDurden's problems with it.

As a fellow Italian, yeah, pasta is everywhere, luckily as a child I was extremely put off by its smell and would always refuse it. But I still ate tons of nutella, bread, and sugar, which gave me lots of inflammation until I went Paleo at 19 (1 year from now). I was making so much mucus, I could consume three tissue packs in a morning!

I don't blame her, most people around the world have zero idea on what's an animal's natural diet, let alone an old uneducated farmer. Good luck ever sourcing any meat that hasn't had soy in it.

Anyways, give me some scientific articles documenting the dangers of soy and grain to animals and I will do my best to inform her.

I wouldn't be surprised, here in Italy farmers feed grains to their livestock all the time as they've been doing so for generations and see it as an healthy practice. My grandma does, so does my trusted butcher.

The lady who distributes raw milk in our zone has been told by a "doctor" working in the Parmesan industry to feed her cows with a grain & soy based multivitamin supplement. No wonder one of the cows had a river of mucus dripping from her nose...

I don't know how much my parents make, so i made a guess based on the average for their profession.

Also, I might have sent my survey multiple times by accident (I clicked on the forward arrow multiple times), so watch out for that.

We are predators. Predators don't need mass. Herbivores, like cows or gorillas, do.

I also experienced greater resistance to the sun after going paleo. Also, facing the sun with my eyes closed warms me up and gelps my rather poor eyesight.

I try to get all the sun that I can. Even during winter, when a sunny day happens, I make sure to dedicate a few hours to laying shirtless in front of the sun.
After all, our bodies evolved to be standing naked in front of the sun whenever it was present.

What's really important is SOURCING: all meat should be either grassfed, pastured or wild. Avoid farmed fish and grain fed livestock.

That's about it. If the meat is good, it's safe to eat as it is.

Of course, you can still marinate it to make it more palatable, but most users here stop doing so at a certain point.

I find lemon juice goes well with beef, and ACV with fish.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Watching your macros
« on: February 03, 2018, 01:53:55 am »
I started ZC this monday (which I also attempted previous week, but fell off the wagon on sunday), and I was wondering: are you supposed to go out of your way to achieve a certain fat to protein ratio, or just go with your instincts?

I do one meal in the morning with eggs and fatty beef cuts (and sometimes mackerel), and while I will happily chow down the lean mass, I can only eat so much fat before feeling overstuffed from it (whether it's bone marrow, back fat, belly fat, pig fat...).

I've been fairly high-carb before this (I'll be blunt: too much honey), but thankfully I'm already somewhat keto adapted thanks to the fasting I've done. So, will I gain a bigger appetite for fats as a result of restricting carbs?

How about other kinds of fat, such as marrow or suet? Or fatty cuts like brisket and ribs.

Butter might be able to help get your digestion moving, and consequently, put your stomach into normal shape.

Can't source butter, but I COULD make it myself starting by raw milk if it's really worth the hassle. But wouldn't animal fats work just as well?

I imagine beef cheeks are similar to beef tongue. If so, how do you eat so much? I tried cutting up the tongue into small pieces. It took forever to cut and then chewing each small piece also took an enormously long time. What's your strategy?

Personally, I buy a sizeable slice of tongue and just bite off the tasty inner part with my teeth - which is I suppose the way hunters cultures also enjoyed tongue.

Never tried cheek tho. I bought it once, it looked like tongue, but my dog stole it.

I doubt rendering would do it any good.

I have no idea of the weights.

Today I bought a single pork rib, one slice of porkbelly, and one slice of beef neck. I left with bone, the belly skin and a good size of the neck fat (which tasted like suet, so pretty bad) for the chickens. I'm trying to see if temporary zero carb will help with my distended belly. Oh, and I had some bits of high liver after my meal.

In this period my meals consist of a fatty cut of beef (like brisket) as well as heart or liver. Mostly heart. I occasionally buy mackerel, swordfish or tuna instead. And I drink unhealthy amounts of honey or mead.
Hardly ever any vegs, also little fruit due to lack of sources (except for some lemons from my grandma; also, farmers started selling oranges and mandarins now).

I bought some wild herbs at my farmer's market the other day... ended up throwing them to the chickens.

Tomorrow I plan on going to the fishery. Ah, who I am kidding, I'll probably just ask my mom to get me a mackerel and sleep till 3 p.m..

Lemon juice would likely not be enough; if it was, our stomach acid would do the job as well.

Yes that’s the part I get the pain is it my liver due to sugar intake or something else am a bit stuck. Not tried raw meat yet so hope it helps

The liver is further up. At belly button level, it likely is your intestines.

I got this "blade in the intestines" pain twice by introducing a cheat food after months of being clean. First time, it was a onigiri with a spicy sauce (containing soy and sugar and other additives). I felt alarmed as soon as the sauce hit my palate, and about half an hour later I started developing this pain. I was also having a long walk in that moment. This led me to believe I had an allergy to soy, but I had the same spicy onigiri again some weeks later and had no reaction.

The second time, I ate a nacho, and again I started to feel something off and then the pain came. This time however I had been sitting all the time, if you exclude walking from buildings to the car and viceversa.

Those food had probably upset my gut flora, having lost familiarity with them. Vegans who try to go back to eating meat too fast suffer the same problem: the bacteria who were meant to digest meat have mostly died off, so if you have a large steak it'll cause intestinal upset until your gut flora readjusts.

I was eating all the time and my bum al say no more it was in overdrive.

I know what you mean. Eating all the time leads me to look like a pregnat woman, and pretty late into the pregnancy at that.

Trying to stick to an intermittent fasting schedule after days of eating all the time, really makes me "hungry". Hungry in the sense "God, I feel so miserable right now, I really wish I could just put something sweet in my mouth right now".

So, yeah, weaning off all those carbs, even natural and unprocessed ones like honey and fruit, is gonna be a hard process.

I just need Help on where to start and what to try and eat for a cyclist and athlete.

Your first issue is sourcing. Find a farmer or a butcher who will sell you grass-fed/pastured meat (grass-fed is used for ruminants, pastured for omnivores such as chickens).

Does your town have a farmers market? In my town there's one every saturday, and there are a few farmers even on the thursday market. The fruit and meat you can buy from them is likely going to be better than anything you can buy at a supermarket.

is it the pain to the left of your belly button?

I believe that is called a mealworm tower.

I once tried to raise mealworms in a container, but then I lost insterest so they all suffocated in the smell of their own feces.

A school group or an average work group are not too large to be a tribe.

It's just that when you put together a group of random people for just a few of years, they will never unite into a big extended family striving for a common goal. If they did, society would collapse...

Divide et impera.
