Yon - how long do you keep your meat on the wire rack in the fridge?  is there a time limit?... or it's better tasting with time?  how about on digestion?

well i haven't experimented with long lengths of time because i usually eat it all within 2-3 days. it seems like it would just kind of dry out though after a long enough while. i don't think it would rot, but i really have no experience with this. i'd say it tastes better with time and digestion is the same as usual. overall, i'd recommend it. my meats used to get brown on the outside if kept in the butcher paper for a couple days, but this solves that problem. plus it tastes better

man, yeah that's way higher than mine. i've never aged anything for that long because i always end up eating it too fast. im gonna have to try that. did you age it outside the fridge? how often did you air it?

dinner: beef marrow and rump roast (i didn't eat all of that). i've been storing my meets on that wire rack in the fridge lately. i think van mentioned doing this. it works really well and makes it taste even better. the outer layer of the meat dries a little over a day or so. sorry for the blurriness.

here's my jerky maker (i also made lex's but ants kept getting to it). takes about 3 days until it's completely dry and hard. i usually just hang up scraps i have left. no risk for overheating and no bug problems!

edit: not sure if you can tell but the fan is on... that's the dehydrator

i got my camera out today so i thought i'd add a high meat pic. i think this is beef brisket. i think it's been about a month now. it's got a little bit of an aged cheesy taste. actually pretty tasty. i've been airing it every day. those chunks are a little less than an inch square

Prostate cancer.  There also other problems, including loss of sexual performance/desire.  None of these occur in all cases, but I'd say there are noticeable negative side effects in maybe 20-30% of men who try to avoid it.

not to mention blue balls. i had personal experience with this when i had a strict, catholic girlfriend (for all of a month, ha). it's not fun. not sure why you'd hold it in voluntarily...

It was in October on my country estate. I was eating lamb testicles, kidneys, liver and kidney suet. The dog got some morsels ;)

this thread needs to be revived.

for lunch i had about a pound of fresh wild mackerel followed by some lamb fat and beef marrow.

might have a cucumber as a snack soon, we'll see...

for dinner it's looking like a pound of organic grass fed lamb and beef marrow.

im hoping to start taking pictures of some of my meals to post on here. i love all of GS's pics. more people should post them!

for lack of a better place to post this:

I just went to my whole foods here in austin, texas and found (for the first time) whole, wild caught (in the USA) mackerel and smelt! pretty exciting because we don't usually get quality seafoods in central texas. anyways, i bought a whole mackerel and a few smelt. they were pretty well priced too, considering i don't live near the coast. i've also noticed that whole foods has been carrying more and more types of oysters... also, they just got in some organic grass fed local lamb!

for those interested, i ate the smelt skin, bones, and all. it actually doesn't really taste like anything. kind of a let down. i'm still gonna eat them though because im sure they're good for me. one even had some roe in it still. the mackerel, on the other hand, is very tasty.

Have I missed something? Why are people being banned/threatened with banning?

seriously! why the hell would you ban a former vegan who is turning to raw animal foods? i just don't get it. who cares if the guy was still skeptical of raf? he was obviously a smart guy. pretty much all of us were in his same shoes at some point on our transition from raw vegan to raw paleo. totally unnecessary in my opinion

hey thanks for the information!  it was just my assumption(and definitely a very american one i think!) that they would need to be consumed in large quantities.  i am preoccupied with thinking of ways to supply my own protein sources besides fishing and hunting(because i am horrible at fishing and have yet to learn to hunt) and have often contemplated farming bugs!!!! good to know it is actually a viable alternative from a nutritional standpoint

i actually 'farmed' mealworms for a while. i ate them raw and they were ok. not THAT tasty. it only lasted about a month though cuz ants got to them and killed them all.

I've always been sceptical of the whole climate-change business(for example, we've had record snowfalls in the Austrian Alps the last couple of years etc.)

i'm pretty sure that statement is some kind of paradox... anyways, it's climate CHANGE. some areas are becoming warmer, some colder, some wetter, some drier than normal. but i agree with you. lots of anti-meat media lately. not good

man, i feell like im also losing the ability to digest cooked stuff. yesterday i found out the hard way that steamed sweet potatoes act pretty much like a colon cleanse for me, haha. i ate one very small sweet potato and immediately got a headache, nausea, and brain fog. and hour later it all pretty much fell out of me. i was doing this as a test to see whether i could tolerate some cooked food at thanksgiving, but apparently i can't. i mean, it wasnt that bad but definitely not fun. maybe i can tolerate cooked meat a little better. we'll see

you're right. i definitely need to watch the rest of those but havent had time

When you find yourself at the extreme end of an exponential cycle in almost every type of economic, energy and environmental model which sustains us and our way of life, you can see that we're headed for a cliff. Human life will go on, certainly to some extent or another. However, when we do fall off it, discretionary energy will no longer exist or be available for societal complications like luxuries or much non-survival hobbies which are trivial in the face of the work you need to get done each day to contribute to your community. The communities which exist will fall in line with primitive systems a la ecosystem villages around the world.

i hope you're right. im just not as optimistic. how do you know that we won't pollute the earth beyond repair before this exponential cycle ends? i'd like to be more sure about it all and just end the global civilization now. then there's no having to hope that this exponential cycle will save us all. to each his own though

None of you potential megalomaniacs will need to worry about taking up the torch on how to solve the issue. Chris Martenson's videos paints a fairly clear picture on how the next 20 years will likely unfold.
http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse/

Gaia Theory et al, it's pretty much common sense at this point.

haha, a 'potential megalomaniac'. well if that's what you label me then fine. i watched the first couple of those videos and enjoyed his explanation of exponential growth. but then he started talking about putting surpluses into prosperity instead of growth and i got a little lost. prosperity (as he defined it) is growth. it's the growth of materials and services and scientific knowledge. these are not things i consider sustainable.

as for the gaia theory, i get it. i believe it to be true, but how does that rule out the need for humanity to overthrow civilization and it's inherent unsustainability? wouldn't we just be acting as agents of the theory?

ok. the only way to drastically reduce population, in my opinion, is to dismantle the infrastructure of civilization. without oil supply, electricity, internet, industrial food supply, water supply, etc, people will die. i know that sounds harsh to some people, but i don't think it's effective to just say 'oh, well we'll just stop having as many kids.' that method would take far too long and be much more difficult to implement. i see civilization as inherently unsustainable, so it will end inevitably. the longer we take to end it, the more people will die. so like i said, people will die. i might die, you might die, i don't know, but lots of people will die. but an appropriate number of people will survive based on how many people their landbase can naturally support without the aid of civilization. then earth can return to a more balanced state. anyways, those are my beliefs in a nut shell.

Now that my office is beside the big wet market with raw everything in it, would people find it appealing to check into a hotel beside the big wet market and be able to get fresh raw everything daily?  I could be your simple guide?

yes. there is a strong possibility i will be in the Philippines this summer. would definitely want to check out this market you speak of. will keep you posted

michael, i definitely agree with everything you just said minus the last two sentences. while it's true that the Earth will probably regulate human population at some point in the future, but i think it's dangerous to suggest that we should not concern ourselves with finding a way to reduce our population sooner. i won't get in to my personal views on how we should go about this, but i just wanted to point that out. leaving it up to 'nature'  just tells people to ignore the problem at hand.

i see what you mean phil. it is strange that arctic peoples are not all light skinned. you know, now that i think about it, the two palest skin types (white and asian) have depended on grains for the longest. whites with wheat, barley, etc and asians with rice. i don't know, just an idea
