Good to hear from you Lex!
I'm glad that you're recovering from the "Week of Horror"!
And I do hope you are able to get off the medication eventually!
But once again, compared to most Americans that are your age and even younger, one medication is nothing!   :)

Take care!

Awesome Keith! You really should think about making an official testimonial!
Here's to all things that improved! I'm sure the eyesight will come - even if only a few diopters. Are you nearsighted?

Craig

Like to go on the website? That would be way cool!  :)

Yes, it is amazing that his English is so good!
I would never have known that English was his second language if he did not say so.
His English is better than many Americans'!

Woah, I just came across this picture...

Wouldn't it be crazy is mushrooms like that influenced the above sculpture?

Whoops... looks as if the picture was removed or something

I remember the "Venus of Willendorf" from my art history class... a figurine of a woman, I think one of if not the oldest sculpture we have record of. It's from c. 25,000-20,000 BCE

It's interesting, because you know no one looked like that back then!

Is it best to use less fatty meat when making high meat, or does it not matter?
Round cuts are usually pretty lean, and organs typically don't have much fat.

i lol'd  :D

Yeah, what you mentioned was a concern of mine as well.
Where I'm staying at right now (with my parents over summer) is a golf course community.
The golf course shut down maybe a year and a half ago and has been allowed to grow wild ever since.
I loved taking walks on the courses and riding my bike on the paths in all its overgrown glory.
However, they decided to reopen the course this September, so lately there's been a whole lot of mowing and cutting and digging and spraying and it's just SO not cool!  >:(  haha

What do you guys think about setting traps for squirrels in my yard?
Would that even be worth it, or are they like rabbits with not enough fat?

Do you think paleo man used traps?

Yeah, I make sure to get some outside time without my glasses on as much as possible so that my eyes can get those UV rays...
in fact, a couple weeks ago I was taking walks outside without my glasses on each day, and it seemed as if my eyesight was just a bit sharper because of them. But it would go back to how it was after putting on my glasses again. Sometimes I'll even look right into the sun if it's early or late enough.
I've also noticed that colors are SO much brighter and more intense when I'm not wearing my glasses.

I already make sure to focus my eyes on something far away for a few seconds if I'm focused on something right in front of me (like the computer!) for more than a few minutes at a time.
I have some weird form of astigmatism. I have big problems with details and I can't read a single letter other than the big "E" on an eye chart.

Hey Stephen!
It's so great that we're getting so many new members these days (not that I've been here for very long at all, haha!)

I'm glad to hear that you're doing well with the diet!
Stay strong, friend!

Hey, that sounds like an idea!
I just looked at the book on Amazon, and it got nothing but good reviews!
Someone even said that there are no exercises, but just things that you practice 24/7?
Do you know if that's true? Because honestly with going back to college in a couple weeks I don't know if I could spare an extra hour a day devoted to eye exercises.

As for the email address, I've PMed Paul back and forth a couple times on the bodybuilding forums. Last I heard from him he was on vacation.
So thanks, but I don't think I need his email  :)
That's really cool that you know him though, small world! How'd you meet if you don't mind me asking?

Ah yes, I think I've read that. It was extremely interesting!
I'll go check right now to make sure that what I read is actually what you're talking about

Edit:

What I read was this: http://www.westonaprice.org/men/splendidspecimens.html
which was in fact written by Randy Roach. But it seems as if he's written a book called Muscle, Smoke & Mirrors, which is much more comprehensive

Keith, you might consider trying the Bates Method(there's some info if you google). I don't guarantee its effects but it , at the very least, does reduce strain on your eyes.

Interesting reading re your journey to a RAF-diet. It seems a majority tend to go through a Raw Vegan/Fruitarian phase prior to going RAF.

I also got rid of most of my gas/farting when I went rawpalaeo(provided I didn't eat too many raw carbs).
Was that raw-meat-eating bodybuilder a "Randy Roach", by any chance?

As regards reading references re raw-meat-eating and mentions of disgust:- I've noticed, more and more, certain (non-diet-related) forums where my alter-ego, "RawPaleoGuy"/ "PaleoGuy" on allexperts.com, gets routinely lambasted for recommending "slimy" High-Meat.

*Anyway, my hope is that this board of forums will eventually become a true, extensive resource-/info-page that any RAF-newbie can access(free-of-charge!).*

Yeah, I've looked into the Bates method... but I've read in his book, in his own very words, he says that if you cannot throw out your glasses altogether then his program will not work for you. You must be completely committed to living without any corrective lens while you are doing his program. I simply cannot go without my glasses at all times. Driving at night would be extremely dangerous and there's no way I could read the board during classes, and things like this.

And I had no idea "RawPaleoGuy" was you! I've read stuff by him (you) before, such as the Q&A's on yahoo, but never knew that you and he were one and the same! How very interesting!

And no, it was not Randy Roach. His name is Paul Lundkvist... his sn on bodybuilding.com is rawlife, and turns out he has a website: http://www.paullundkvist.com/4436.html
It is to him I owe my decision to eat raw animal foods.

Thanks Yuri!!
I typically spend one hour in the gym. I'm a big believer in "get in and get out"... short but intense workouts.

Wednesday August 06

Had a better workout today than on Monday, as I had more and better sleep (I achieved lucidity in my dream last night!).
I was kind of frustrated because when I do my stiff-legged deadlifts, my grip strength goes out before my leg strength does... but oh well, my grip strength will just have to get stronger!

1. Barbell Row:                       100x8          100x8         100x6           100x6
2. Incline Dumbbell Press:         45x9            45x6           45x5             40x5
3. Stiff-leg Deadlift:                 175x9          175x6         155x6            155x4
4. Barbell Curl:                         60x9           60x8            60x6
5. Dips:                                  10                7                 6
7. Shrugs:                              155x10         155x7           155x6
8. Leg Extension:                     280x10          280x8          280x7

Omnivorous Raw Paleo Diet / Re: Craig Goes Omnivore...
« on: August 06, 2008, 11:36:05 pm »

How did you find us by the way?

Craig

Ah, well I will do my best to answer that question. Sorry, it might get a little long!

Let's see, I would always be searching the internet for natural things to help my mood... someone had hurt me a great deal, and I just couldn't get over it or stop it from running through my mind over and over again. So I would try all sorts of herbal supplements and whatnot. Somehow I stumbled upon a website about the paleo diet, and read it and it made sense... about grains being bad and everything.
Well, I still ate pizza a good deal and still ate my sprouted breads and cereals. This was I think around last March or so.

Then, on the nutrition section of a bodybuilding forum I go to, I came across a thread by a guy who eats 100% raw, including meat. He was very muscular and looked very healthy, and I couldn't help but be interested in what he was saying... raw meat? Really? That can't be healthy... can it?

So I did some more google searching, and came across the Wai diet. The information on this website convinced me that cooking food is not good and that raw can be safe and healthy. I stopped eating my sprouted breads and cereal, and started eating raw eggs and a little bit later, raw fresh fish. I was also eating LARGE amounts of fruit, as I had joined a raw vegan forum (I wasn't a vegan obviously, but it was the only large raw forum that I had found). Everyone on this forum was convinced that green smoothies were the key to life and that the best ratio of nutrients was 80/10/10  C/P/F.
So I ate lots of fruit and veggies, green smoothies, nuts and seeds, and a few eggs everyday, and some fish here and there.
I would have been eating meat, but I certainly wasn't going to buy any grocery meat, especially not to eat raw.
Eating this way, I felt a bit better healthwise, but not great by any means. And I was getting really skinny, which I wasn't too happy about. And I had awful gas  :-\ (not as bad as when I would eat large amounts of oats in my pre-raw days though!)

Now I don't remember exactly how I came across this forum... I think I was just searching and came across the yahoo group and found a link to the raw paleo website. I didn't join it until I found some grass-fed beef at a nearby grocery store and ate it raw. It was then that I felt "qualified" to join!

Anyway, I feel sooo much healthier since starting to eat this way:
-improved sleep
-improved energy
-improved mood (more control over my thoughts as well)
-improved allergies
-no more ringing in my ears
-no more gas (ever!)
-less muscle aches (back pain was a problem)
-better skin

I wish I could say improved eyesight was a benefit, but sadly none yet... I'd LOVE to not have to wear glasses anymore.

anyway, that was my little narrative/testimonial  :)

You're sure right about there not being that much info!

I've tried searching quite a few times, and I always find message boards talking about some show where they showed people eating raw meat and high meat and everyone is just talking about how disgusting and unsanitary and unhealthy it is  :D

But no real info  :'(

525
Now here's a question...
is there a distinct advantage to high meat over other fermented foods such as pickles, sauerkraut, etc.? (providing they are unheated and one is not on an all-meat diet)

I've just started eating sauerkraut and pickles as they are supposed to contain live enzymes and beneficial probiotics, and I'm wondering if high meat is truly superior
