General Discussion / Re: Digesting salmon skin/non ground meats?

Oh, nope i haven't tried eating "large" amounts of raw meat.  I do best with high amounts of veggies and some fruit.  I will try the steak.

I don't know if i'm just not used to it yet or what but i don't even try to eat things like the raw skin off of salmon or try to chew down a raw steak.  I guess i just don't understand how these things digest easily in your system.

General Discussion / Re: Cooked vs Raw fats
« on: June 04, 2012, 08:50:07 pm »
I find that there is a big difference in how my body reacts to different cooking processes.  Fried food would never sit well.  High heated oils, heavy grilled fats, etc.  I think there is a difference between that and roasted or slow-cooked fats.  Things like in bone-broth, crock-pot meals, things like that.  These seem to sit the best with me.  Oh, also things like roasted nuts are not good for me either but some fresh raw nut butter is a nice treat sometimes =)

Yea jessica, whole eggs.  I swear my intuition tells me its the whites my body doesn't like.  The yolks always taste amazing to me.  So i will try that.  I think the juicing also could be good for now.  Do raw/rare meats seem to be an issue for you guys?  I really think it's more the veggies and the rougher fruits.

Right now I blend raw veggies.  It would look something like a big handful of spinach or other lettuce, a beet or a bunch of carrots, maybe some green onions.  LOTS of roughage foods.  Mixed with a little water.  It goes down good but i think it dries up inside my system.  Otherwise i wouldn't be eating veggies without fats.  I mean basically I have been trying to up the raw food but i just don't think my digestion is settled yet.  I was reacting to eggs badly so i think that riled things up.  I take kelp capsules and drink plenty of water.  I think the fruit (berries, apples) are ok here and there.  I just had some blended cooked veggies with chicken and some fermented veggies and olive oil.  It sits real well.  I think maybe the key for me right now is soft-cooked veggies and fermented foods IE. GAPS diet until stuff settles.  I just did a liver flush a week ago so its possible that threw me off a bit too. =)

Health / Er...Digestion?

Been using a nutribullet to blend veggies and salads to drink.  Dramatic increase in fiber.  Having difficulty digesting it i think.  Sticking the system up.  I know i digest soft cooked veggies with fats better.  Maybe mixing a little fat with the salads will help.  Anyways, trying to stick with the raw food primarily but its tough with the digestive issues.  My body doesn't seem to like too high amounts of the raw meats yet.  Any ideas?

I haven't really looked into Ray peats stuff either.  Don't really plan to.  I try to eat intuitively but i think things can get away from us sometimes.  I mean some peoples guts are so screwed up they can't stomach raw vegetables or even unripe fruit or nuts.  So it's all personal i guess.  Yea i think i will keep my thermometer around here to figure out what my body likes.  I also have a suspicion that intolerances arise when we eat too much of any one thing.  For instance, i don't think my body likes eggs or carrots right now.  I have been eating eggs most days for months now.  I had been juicing carrots for awhile.  So i think rotating food is always a good precaution and just healing up the gut.  You know what amazes me?  We are truly omnivores.  What other animal can eat such a wide variety of things as humans?  Leaves, roots, nuts, berries, fruits, fish, meats.  It's almost like we are supposed to live here =)

Interesting phenomenon.  I think ray peat does this as well but the guy i learned it from was Josh rubin east west healing.  Anyways, they use temperature and pulse to test foods and eating habits.  You take your temp before you eat something or before you exercise.  Then you take your temp after you eat or exercise.  Drops mean drops in metabolic activity and should be avoided or can mean intolerance.  For instance i have wondered if i have been eating way too many eggs lately.  Did the temp test and dropped .8 degrees after a sip.  Just had some lightly steamed turnips and brocolli with a little raw olive oil and sea salt and back up at 98.6  Basically the premise is that sometimes it doesn't matter how clean you are eating.  I might eat raw eggs and get sick.  You might eat raw eggs and feel amazing.  I found this true last night as well.  Ate some rare red meat with avocado and temp shot up.  This varies depending on activity levels, time of day, season, climate, etc.  They have used it to fix metabolic abnormalities, hormonal issues, adrenal health, etc.  I plan on using these tools to basically just see which foods my body likes right now.  I figure after awhile i will intuitively know.  It seems that usually its some of the foods we eat every day or do not want to give up that don't agree with us.  EG: gluten, dairy, eggs, etc

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Digestion times?
« on: May 30, 2012, 04:32:17 am »
This has probably been answered somewhere but i was curious on average digestion times of common RPD foods.  I'm trying to fix my digestive system and trying to follow food combining and things like that.  I don't eat all raw meat or anything yet but i know digestion is way quicker that way.  I also know mono-meals seem to be the easiest for your body to process.  So the things i eat in question are:

-rare/raw beef (ground, liver, heart, steaks, etc)
-raw marrow
-raw butter
-raw eggs
-raw nut butters
-raw/rare salmon sashimi
-avocado
-olive oil
-coconut oil

Don't feel like you have to answer them all =)

Health / Re: Impact of a C-Section on the body
« on: May 29, 2012, 11:34:23 pm »
You might look into the work of Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt.  He is one of the most successful practitioners of things like lyme, ms, chronic fatigue, parkinsons, etc.  They have found that one block people can have is called "interference fields."  This is basically anything that blocks the natural flow of energy through your body system.  For me, I had a bad atlas subluxation blocking nerve flow from my brain to my body.  Scars and dental occlusions are also problems.  They do note C-section scars as being a big deal for some people.  It blocks energetic flow along certain important regions of the body.  I know that they have treatment options for these types of things but i haven't looked into it that closely as I'm a guy =)  I know that they can be corrected and energy restores though.  So no, I don't think you are crazy for wondering about this, I think other people are just not as in tune with their own bodies.

Health / Gallstone program too good?
« on: May 26, 2012, 09:26:29 pm »
Hey guys,

Been doing a few liver flushes here and there.  My program this past week leading up to a flush last night included:

-twice daily doses of chanca piedra "stone breaker" herb
-beet/dandelion/spinach smoothie every morning
-lots of raw eggs
-high raw, green foods
-lots of apples

I didn't seem to pass many stones yet (maybe on the way).  So my question is, do you guys think it's possible that i'm just breaking down the stones very effectively with all of the things i am doing already?  Some people out there seem to get over the gallbladder/liver stone issue without doing big flushes.  What you guys think?

Health / Re: Genetic Glitches, Sulfation, Methylation, etc?
« on: May 26, 2012, 05:38:55 am »
Right, but does anybody know how to get around these glitches?  I mean, as far as i know the "experts" right now are using tons of b12, b vitamins ,folate, beets, and a few other supplements to provide the nutrients.  I think the genetic factor should be the last thing to be blamed for our ill health but i'm guessing it does happen to people.

« on: May 26, 2012, 03:45:59 am »
Hey guys,

In chronic illness circles you often hear about things like genetic glitches, issues with sulfation, methylation, etc.  Basically, your organs (primarily liver) can't detoxify effectively.  Some say it is a genetics problem (I have my doubts).  Anyways, they usually treat it with things like b12, folate, etc.  Does anybody know much about this topic?  My intuition tells me that in most cases it is just a gunked up liver/kidneys/colon that can no longer process toxins like it should and doesn't have the right nutrients to help get it moving again.  Eating good quality foods including beets, dandelion, raw liver, raw eggs yolk, and a wide variety of other fruits, vegetables, and meats should do the trick, no?

GS, do you think that growing up in another country has affected that?  I think we all try to be self-educating but sometimes people get mixed up.  Growing up in America we are basically constantly brainwashed and advertised/marketed junk to.

General Discussion / Internet Bad or Good? or Both?
« on: May 25, 2012, 08:21:32 pm »
I have been thinking about this a lot lately with my own health and healing process.  It seems that there is an endless supply of information and opinions in the world.  Not mentioning anything besides diet there are people who have healed their problems on:

-raw vegan
-raw paleo
-cooked paleo
-macrobiotic
-fruitarian

The list could go on forever.  Then in this community, we have:

-people who cook some vegetables
-people who do or don't eat eggs
-people who do or don't drink raw milk

It's like for every person who gets a good reaction from eggs somebody else has a bad one.
So the question goes

How much does having access to the internet and the opinions of others 24/7 influence what we choose to do with our own health?

I realize that even 30 years ago it was your friends, family, maybe a health book or 2, but other than that, you basically decided what your body liked and did not like for yourself.  I think there are ups and downs to the Internet.  Ups would be that there is a lot of information out that people would not find otherwise.  For instance, i wouldn't have thought about giving raw paleo a try but it seems to be working for me.  I still do some cooked veggies and slow-cooked/rare meats.  The downside seems to be that we can drive ourselves nuts reviewing everyones opinions on what is good and what is not good.  Personally, i have struggled.  It's like i will eat some raw eggs and feel good then i read somebody thinks raw eggs are bad for you so i question it.  So i think it is a good and bad thing.  It is a tool that needs to be used appropriately.  We need to have a balance between finding information, but also listening to our gut instincts and intuition.  What is good for you may not be good for me type thing.  Instead of buying into the strict 100% raw.  A lot of people mention Henry Beiler the medical doctor.  He healed massive amounts of people with some cooked vegetables in the diet.  Anyways, just ranting today, but what do you guys think?  What are the pros and cons of having access to such an unlimited source of information and opinions at your fingertips every day?

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: diabetes and bodybuilding
« on: May 24, 2012, 11:51:46 pm »
The diabetes shouldn't slow you down.  I wouldn't focus so much on building muscle mass though while you are tackling the diabetes.  Focus on metabolic conditioning (bodyweight, calisthenics, cardio, biking, walking)

-push ups, pull ups, sit ups, lunges, whatever you like just mix it up

After your body recoups and you can absorb and digest food like a pro, then you can up the muscle.  It's basically like the car engine can't process the gas.  It's not so much about how much you eat but the QUALITY.  You will find that in time, you will naturally be a lot less hungry after you start feeding the body everything it wants.  Most of the time when people overeat, it's because we don't have the nutrition (vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, enzymes) so we just keep eating trying to get it.

Yea i agree with dorothy also.  The weight is more a side-effect.  Healing the body is top priority.  Honestly, some people are naturally heavier or lighter.  It is possible to be carrying a few extra pounds and be healthy.  As for me, i am pretty trim but i was very sick.  There is always a natural point your body is trying to move towards.
