General Discussion / Re: Pancreatic Deficiency
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:11:45 pm »
I also have seen that the problem lies actually in the liver/GB.  If its jammed up its hard to get things moving in the pancreas.  I have done 3 liver flushes so far and after each time i feel not only the liver/GB empty, but it emptys the pancreas also.  Lots of gurgling down there haha.  I think gurgling is good, better than stagnation.  I agree.

-raw foods (nutribullet, juicer, for helping digest veggies)
-eggs, avocados, good oils, fats
-rare proteins or raw if your doing that now
-fermented veggies can help digest things as well

But really i think cleaning out the bowels and liver, and then cleaning up the diet are good too.

On another vein, if your familiar with the chakra system, the 3rd chakra is related to liver/GB, pancreas, stomach, digestion.  It can be blocked if you have issues with self-esteem, sensitive to criticism, perfectionism, expressing yourself, etc.  When we are blocked in certain areas, the energy doesn't flow to the organs and they can't function well.

General Discussion / Re: Adrenals, Carbs, and Candida
« on: May 10, 2012, 08:07:01 pm »
Henry Bieler, in his book "food is your best medicine" raved about raw egg yolks being able to quickly rebuild peoples adrenal glands.  I think main things are

-raw fats (yolks, avocado, raw butter, coconut oil)
-liver is good for vitamins
-sea salt (and balancing other minerals)
-lots of sleep, rest, don't exercise too hardcore
-work on your energetic/emotional issues, stressors, etc.

Check out this link.  I fit this bill as well.  Some of us just feel best with more carbs in the diet.  Everyone has different genetics.  I think the things that help are

-oxygenate your body, deep breathing,
-fresh water, sun
-more raw food.  I just got a nutribullet. they are amazing.
-eat basically on your metabolic type.

Rethinking Candida

Bottom line = you can probably starve candida with 0 carbs and sugar, but you will be starving yourself if you need carbs.  Your body will keep candida in line the healthier you get.  Candida exists in the body and always have, but we need to get them back into balance.  Try focusing on lower-sugar fruits/veggies.

I eat a lot of turnips, rutabagas, peas, carrots.  Berries, apples, etc.  I don't think grains are really required by anybody but who knows.

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Re: What to eat and what to not eat?

For building muscle?  I think listen to the body first and foremost.  You will crave certain foods at certain times.  Just stick to really healthy meals.  Personally, i find that doing more strength training will require more protein/fat and meat.  If i'm doing a lot of mental work or cardio exercising or sex i crave more fruit and carbs and water.  I always find that small meals throughout the day works best for me.  I think the best advice i ever heard for building muscle/fitness was.  Always stretch/rest as well.  I take a "paleomeal" protein supplement which seems to work for me.  Lot's of good vitamins, etc.

It requires:
-nutrition
-sleep
-training

Just listen to the body, find your own rhythms, eat easily digestible foods, stretch, and sleep a lot =)

Health / Re: Transition To Raw Diet?
« on: May 06, 2012, 12:24:10 am »
No, i didn't mean literally like boiling hot.  More a comfortable warm temperature.  I do enjoy a cup of hot water first thing in the morning though with a little green tea or lemon.  I am slowly transitioning over but i find for me ADDING things in is far more important than subtracting bad foods.  For instance: adding in raw eggs as a protein/fat meal every other day.  Rare beef/salmon or raw bone marrow, etc.  I still eat slow cooked chicken/turkey but less and less of it.  I find that chicken cooked in a crock pot is nowhere near as hard to digest/assimilate as something grilled or fried.  I also eat fermented vegetables with my cooked food to help with the breakdown.  I think an important part of health is to focus on what creates health instead of focusing on what causes "dis-ease."  Creating a loving relationship with yourself and your body will always lead you to the right course of action at that moment.

I have figured out that in my situation my body can be overwhelmed trying to do anything too quickly.  My digestion isn't used to the raw animal products so much.  I think the #1 thing that helps me is letting the food warm up on the counter for awhile before i eat it.  I think half the time when my body "reacts" to a food it is because it is too cold on my system.  I kinda favor the chinese medicine approach of also using food to regulate your internal thermostat.  Eat cool when hot, hot when cool, etc.  Your not going to eat some chilled egg whites after standing out in the cold for an hour you know?  Temperature control has made a big difference for me.

Raw-al,

If i'm not mistaken, doesn't ayurveda (sp)? recommend good amounts of cooked foods as well?  I personally find that i need to cook vegetables and such now.  Are you familiar with the yin/yang principle in eating?  As in cooked eggs are more yang than raw eggs, etc.

Thanks guys,

I live in Indiana and we have an amazing local farm here we get all this stuff from.  I mean, the smoothies sound amazing but i think sugar is a bit of an issue and isn't that kinda nix on the food combining eggs/bananas?  Raw eggs seem to agree with me although i think my liver might have some sort of sulfation issue.  Maybe just a healing reaction happening from the good fats.  Yea i can get raw liver, bone marrow, tongue, heart, suet, steaks, etc.  Also salmon.  I am trying to get into mono-meals.  I am realizing that most of my symptoms have to do with my main organ systems.  If i can clear out the liver/kidneys/digestion i should be feeling a hell of a lot better.  Any breakfast ideas?  I can't quite get down with eating raw beef/salmon for breakfast and i don't want to eat eggs every single day even though i love them haha.  So smooth to go down.  :)  Did anybody else just have this feeling after they started the diet like this is whats going to fix me?

Yea, i was doing ok for awhile.  I think my problem was implementing raw dairy and too many fermented foods initially.  I also realized i had almost nothing with magnesium in it in my diet.  Anyways, adding some foods to get the magnesium.  I was feeling better and had cheated a bit once a week or so but it started creeping up on me.  I think at the moment dairy, grains are my main issues.  I was also doing enzymes which helped initially but not so much anymore.  I think as i am getting closer and closer to a raw diet they become pointless and just confuse the body.  I eat vegetables cooked with some raw fat usually coconut, olive, marrow, etc.  I usually eat most cooked food with fermented foods.

Hey guys, digestion has been really outa whack for a fairly long time.  Stuff just does not move through like it should.  I'm not really strong enough to fast on water for long.  I read somewhere aanjonous did fasting with just veggie/fruit juice and raw eggs?  Has anybody experimented and have good results with this getting everything moving again?

This reminds me of my old dog chewing on rawhide.  I think its pretty natural to do.  I mean think about vegetarian animals.  They get their teeth cleanings from tons of roughage, greens, etc.  I would bet most animals in the wild chew on bones for this same reason, perhaps unconsciously.

It's so cool to see how supportive the forum is.  I feel its more tight knit than most other online communities.   A year ago i was so sick and now i'm about to push the weight off my chest.  I know i have a lot of detox and gunk to get out of my system, bugs to kill, etc.  But personally am stronger, more nutrition on board, etc.  I think the thing i try to always remember that it is not a race and that good health will come with the right program.  I have had trouble putting on weight the last few years.  Came off gluten/crap food a year ago.  I can tell high raw paleo style is going to help me put on weight.  I have been debating doing before/after photos.  What you all think?

Health / Sick/Detox transitioning?
« on: April 26, 2012, 06:24:49 am »
Hey guys,

Slowly transitioning over to more and more raw.  Having weird reactions right now probably detox/healing lately.  Have been eating a lot more raw eggs, rare beef/salmon, raw bone marrow, liver, etc.  Only cooked stuff is vegetables.  This was switching over from a "cooked paleo" diet that included heavily cooked proteins/roasted nut butters, etc.  Anyways, i feel pretty good lately but i am noticing my body seems to be rebelling against cooked food more and more.  It's like its saying why would you eat that when we are trying to cleanse your system?  Definitely in detox mode, just wondering if anybody else had similar symptoms.  I remember reading in i think Henry Bielers book awhile back about some guys who went to live with the Inuit maybe?  At first the raw food made them sick as they were not used to it but in time the cooked food lost most of its appeal.

Ah thanks,

Yea lyme is a tough bugger to shake off.  I just try to remember that anything can be healed.  Also that there is "more than one road to rome."  I try to do 90% correctly and not focus on being perfect.  Trying to be perfect is the enemy of health.

« on: April 26, 2012, 12:48:03 am »
I noticed this with certain nutrients.  Things like iodine, and other nutrients are added in fortified cereals, milks, table salt, etc.  I always found i craved things like french fries/burgers back in the day.  I think it was the iodine.  Now i take kelp capsules for that.  Make sure your eating enough magnesium, iodine, etc.  I was also low on magnesium.

Health / Re: Exercise VS Sleep/rest/Healing
« on: April 25, 2012, 11:31:20 pm »
So many things have helped.  Basically i'm following a modified version of Dietrich Klinghardt's lyme protocol.

Step 1: correct all lifestyle issues, emf's, moldy home, diet, sleep, sunlight, clean water, fresh air, etc

Step 2: Detoxify/Nourish the body.  This includes focusing on detoxing liver/kidneys/lymph as well as detoxifying and making peace with any emotional issues, traumas, stressors, etc.  Emotions/energetics were a big piece for me and i think for most people.  Getting rid of heavy metals would also be included here.

Step 3: Target microbes.  Get rid of parasites/yeasts/lyme microbes.  There is some controversy here.  I mean as your health improves these counts will naturally drop and be eliminated by the body.  Currently i just use high amounts of raw garlic, coconut oil, and maybe some pau d'arco tea here and there.  Might get more aggressive on this step in the future.  There are specific anti-lyme herbs out there as well i plan to add in.

Step 4: Fix the damage.  This would include relaxation, sleep, brain-games to get your neurons firing prime again.  Some forms of immune-enhancing herbs/mushrooms.  I'm not really worried about this step now as i am not that far along yet.

I think the biggest part for me was just trusting my inner voice and not paying attention to what people say so much.  Our bodies are very intelligent.  I believe there is usually a spiritual component to most serious illness.  I think often illness strikes when we have failed to listen to our own inner wisdom and have been out of balance for too long.  Sometimes illness is a way to bring us back into balance and make us look at how we are living our life.  By viewing the illness as a teacher and accepting and trusting your body to heal you, you remove the fear, stress, cortisol release that poisons the body.  Obviously this is a very short list but i am managing to treat myself well without using drugs, antibiotics, etc.  Food, herbs, good emotional/spiritual health, sleep, trust in God/Universe, and good detox protocols.  These are what help me the most.

Health / Exercise VS Sleep/rest/Healing
« on: April 25, 2012, 08:46:37 pm »
Hey guys,

Slowly recovering from adrenal burnout, lyme, fatigue, digestive issues, toxicity, etc.  I can exercise again somewhat regularly.  There seems to be some debate on how much exercise to do while trying to actively heal.  Obviously rest is important but i also notice that if i don't exercise at all i feel lethargic and sluggish internally.  Right now i do bodyweight exercises alternated with some light jogging or sometimes a mini-tramp for cardio.  I don't mess with heavy strength training as this just crashes me at the moment.  I guess it's finding a balance between the two so you feel good post exercise and not fatigued.  I just obviously want a good portion of my energy to go into healing the body.

Health / Shelf Life?
« on: April 24, 2012, 04:27:53 am »
Hey guys,

seems there are lots of questions i end up having as i transition into all this.  Main thing i am wondering is how long is all this stuff good in the fridge?  It seems that "Fresh" is preferable to "frozen" but that is all i can get at the moment and it seems to be working for me.  But for instance, if i take out some ground beef and some raw bone marrow and thaw it in the fridge how long is it safe to eat?  I don't eat the whole amount of marrow or beef in one day.  I end up making stock with the bones as well.  So what are basic shelf life for all this stuff?

-marrow
-beef (liver, tongue, heart)
-salmon
-lamb

Health / Food Rotating
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:56:05 pm »
Hey guys,

Does anybody find the need to "rotate" foods on the RPD.  Like not eating eggs for breakfast every morning.  It's a little hard for me to do as my raw protein/fat sources are basically: eggs, beef, marrow, salmon, then plant sources (avocado, olive oil, sometimes nuts).  I don't want to risk developing an intolerance to some of my favorite things ;D

Well it sounds like marrow is the way to go.  I think i should have a pretty endless supply of it.  It seems a little pricey though.  I'll try to get a bulk deal or something.  Anybody know any good ways to get magnesium?

General Discussion / Suet Question?
« on: April 22, 2012, 04:05:50 am »
Hey guys,

somewhat new to all this but i'm loving the raw bone marrow i get from my local farmers.  I want to try suet but i seem to have a road block here.  The suet they have on the farm store is in a 5 pound bag frozen.  I don't want to buy five pounds and thaw it because i know i will never eat all of it.  Any ideas?  Maybe i could contact them and see if they will make more individual sized portions.  The bone marrow just comes in little pack of maybe 6 bones that i just pop out and eat with my meat or veggies.  Suggestions?

I do mix small amounts of fermented vegetables with my cooked veggies probably half the time.  However, my liver is still very clogged up and probably bad bugs inside.  I can't tolerate ferments in that large of quantities at the moment.  I find that chewing really well helps to avoid any bad digestion when eating cooked foods.  My goal is to have an "all raw" day sometime soon just to see how it feels.  Most stuff raw its just the veggies fibrousness gets in the way.  Also, cooked food seems more grounding to me and i tend to be ungrounded lately.
