Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Gaining weight on zerocarb?
« on: June 10, 2018, 06:41:20 am »
I have discussed this over at reddit ZC subs more, but I have been able to put on weight, from an underweight start, via ZC. I am not exclusively raw. I eat 2-3lbs a day, about 75% fat by calories.

In my case, combined with training, the result has been a combination of muscle and fat. I will ultimately likely switch to intermittent periods of leaner meat to cut belly fat, but I am not to fussed about it now.

5'11, started low 140s, now high 150s.

As far as lamb is concerned:

Sweetbreads: Thymus (throat) beats pancreas (heart) in my opinion.

Thyroid, I have never tried, nor do I think I could easily source. Please do report back on your experience.

Brain is great. I also enjoy eyes, but be careful eating them as they tend to pop and spray the pupil pigment everywhere which has ruined a shirt.

Beef: I dislike sweetbreads in beef, or at least had a bad example the first two times, and have only been doing lamb since.

Interesting. To clarify, I was referring to urine odour only, not body odour, thankfully!

Resurrecting an old thread, I have noticed this very phenomenon wrt lamb, and more generally I would add cooked lamb. I don’t notice an odour when eating small meals of raw lamb, but larger cooked lamb meals result in a very distinct sweet lamb odour. This does not happen with beef or any fish/seafood, only lamb! There must be a metabolites present in lamb that carry the scent, I do wonder if it is like asparagus pee in that only certain people can smell it?

Hello Lex et al,

I just wanted to thank all of you for what has been a very fascinating education. I have adopted a zero carb diet over the past few months and have finished reading this journal, the discussion has been very helpful. Hope all are well.
