General Discussion / Fantastic Health Benefits of Butyrate
« on: March 27, 2012, 01:54:40 am »
Beautiful Butyrate

Butyric acid has amazing benefits for your health. Butyric acid is a short chain fatty acid which dramatically improves insulin sensitivity, metabolism, blood lipids, body composition, and reduces stress and inflammation.

Butyric acid is made by the fermentation of fiber in the large intestine. The lower digestibility of raw vegetables may be a blessing in disguise. Feeding the large intestine more undigested plant matter will increase butyric acid production. Butyric acid also occurs in dairy products.

This has been a great discovery, it challenged my previous paradigm: raw plants are indigestible and provide virtually no starch, sugar, or nutrients. Now I realize that short chain fatty acids made from fiber have fantastic health benefits. In what appeared to be raw indigestible fiber, nature was providing sustenance for us all along.

Iguana emphasizes that you should trust in nature, eat foods which agree with you, and have peace of mind, his style is wise indeed.

This is exciting new information; eating more raw vegetables, roots, and tubers may bring great health and wellness benefits via short chain fatty acids. Please share your ideas about this subject.

Exercise / Bodybuilding / Eating Protein Without Fat
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:55:27 am »
Some claim that you must eat fat with protein to fully absorb the protein, is there any empirical evidence to back this claim?

Athletes and bodybuilders appear to utilize protein without mixing it with fat. Although fats are necessary for hormonal production and absorbing fat soluble nutrients, does protein need to be eaten with fat to be digested and absorbed?

General Discussion / Coffee: A Splendid Paleolithic Brew
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:11:12 pm »
There is a recent video interview featuring two popular leaders of the Paleo movement. For 15 minutes the interviewee extolled the benefits of the Paleo diet; you activate super genes, become ultra-strong and energetic etc.

While discussing fasting the Paleoman proudly stated that all he needed to get by until lunch was his dear cup of java. Although the interviewee is rather flexible in his approach, it was awkwardly hypocritical to give a 15 minute rhapsody of his Paleo diet only to candidly admit his self-imposed neurochemical dependence on mojo.

What are your views on coffee, tea, or caffeine?

The purpose of this post is to gain information on the benefits of raw vs. cooked proteins and amino acids.

Please offer your input regarding the following questions:
1.   Are amino acids digested and utilized better when raw?
2.   Which amino acids are affected by normal cooking?
3.   How significant is the degradation of cooked amino acids?

Your answers are appreciated.
