Health / Copper Identified as Culprit in Alzheimer's Disease
« on: August 27, 2013, 03:09:36 pm »
Copper appears to be one of the main environmental factors that trigger the onset and enhance the progression of Alzheimer's disease by preventing the clearance and accelerating the accumulation of toxic proteins in the brain.

Prior to this research, the earliest known bone cancers occurred in samples approximately 1000-4000 years old.

"Evidence for cancer is extremely rare in the human fossil record. This case shows that Neanderthals, living in an unpolluted environment, were susceptible to the same kind of cancer as living humans."

This is somewhat alarming. Bacteria found specifically in meat-eaters metabolize L-carnitine into some nasty, artery-hardening compound.
I can't think of a reason that raw meat eaters would be immune to this, maybe some further research on the specific bacteria will give insight into that.

Hot Topics / Raw honey - is it just marketing?
« on: September 02, 2012, 05:10:25 pm »
On a German website I read that all honey is cold extracted (at least in Germany, for the past 100 years), at 37C which is enough to losen up the wax, and that "raw honey" is just dishonest marketing strategy from bee keepers. Couldn't find more info, anyone knows more?

A pretty convincing argument that this grass-fed hype is a bit overblown.. what do you guys think?

Unrelated: why is the Ubuntu logo all over this forum?
