General Discussion / Re: Warming the honey
« on: September 19, 2009, 06:52:25 am »
Honey from your region is best but I but from Pacifica honey in Calfornia   http://honeypacifica.com/   they are very reasonable for small orders to just call them and they can adjust shipping costs.  they also have great flavors.I love the mixed wild flower cold pressed honeyThe peppertree honey is nice too.  I take mineral water and stir in a glob of honey and it is like an italian soda... I love it

That video is sooooo nasty. I guess parasites are a part of life. Do any of you eat pork raw? Is it better to make sure it's from a good source i'm sure but  have not really experemented with it myself. I'm still pretty new and working on beef still, maybe bison occasionally or venison but still trying to figure it out.

US: Food safety and organic farming: impossible combination?

While the American traditional farming system has been fighting for years against bacteria damaging the crops, first of all Escherichia coli, organic producers are now fighting another fight against the laws for food safety, which provide for the destruction of ecosystems in the name of crop and harvest protection.

According to these regulations, where planted are cultivated, there can be no standing water or different vegetation that might transmit bacteria or any other kind of living thing. Even if just a squirrel steps between the salad, the harvest has to be destroyed.

In the US, in the marine reserve and biological paradise Monterey Bay, strategies are being implemented of destruction of nature, in the name of food safety and need for antiseptics fields.

Far from the eyes of people that see only the benefits of food safety, hectares and hectares of land are to be chemically disinfected, ponds are to be covered and the natural vegetation grubbed. Birds, frogs, mice and any other living thing that can affect the crops and their productivity will be captured and eliminated, because bacteria can attack the crops, because vegetables should be safe, no matter how many pesticides have been sprayed on them or how many Monsantoes take profit from that.

if you go to this link there is a test i recently took to find out if I had hereditary heart disease or if i just had the tendencies. this company gensona looks at your gene's specifically the il1 (affects the heart). I also did the balanced health test. it was extremely simple and gave me a non biaste result based on my own body and not the assumptions of another person (dr or nutritionalist). If you are curious let me know. I am really glad idid it and i also didn't have to wonder if i ate well the week before a blood test or not. (blood tests, depending on what they are looking for may notbe very accurate)  Example, eating fruit before a blood sugar test will skew the results..etc   any way, look at the link and you can read more about gensona too if it helps make the ecision to trythe test easier for you.   I'm glad i did it, it als told me things i already knew like how I have to be cautious with my immune system because i didnt absord b vitamins properly.  (now it is not so much a problem because i'm ware of it and can work on it)  :o)

That is a great story.  it's to bad most people are to stupid to even consider this rather they like to blame  carbon footprints and global warming instead of the earth self preserving itself or a univeral position.  thnks for the very cool post.  :o

Personals / Re: RAF Diet meetups
« on: July 27, 2009, 05:57:08 am »
I know this is an old topic but it was something i was thinking of while i was reading. has anyone figured out where most of the active RAFer's on here are from?  Aajonus has a few peple in the minneapolis area too. maybe a no coast thing could be an option too if something really came together and people wanted to plan an event. We have a lot of quality meat here from the small farmer and price is not so bad fom what i've noticed across the USA at least but it would be such a cool thing if this ever materialized into a plan

Primal Diet / Re: raw meat vs. frozen

Ok, thank oufor the ino (it realy is what i was looking to learn) what about the quality of the meat. I cant always find free range meat  but i also dont want to be eating meat full of all kinds of other crap either.  If i buy regular store (big commercial) pork or chicken do i have to worry about something in the rawmeat making me sick? Or is it possible to eat to much fish? The last thing i need is to change my diet get sick and hve my very close minded (but sweet) hubby telling me it's because i ate raw meat.

Health / Re: Dry skin, cold shower therapy...
« on: July 27, 2009, 03:22:10 am »
yes,  but cleaning some of the oil off your skin wil be helpful if you shower daily try every 3 or 4th day using hot water you have to wash the free-radicals and toxins off your skin and they do get caught in your body's natural oils. i have never shampoed every time i shower the oils in your scalp protect your head. Also try eating avocado more frequently the natural oils of it are extremely good for your skin and stay in your body longer then animal fats as they are used up faster (they disapear) at a higher temperature so maybe that will help. I have spent a long time in the skincare industry and still use the same products (i think we have diferent things causing us to age, dry out and wrinkle prematurely now days that were not always considerations to living life times ago) But if you are strict about not using anything think about avocado.

Primal Diet / raw meat vs. frozen
« on: July 25, 2009, 09:33:16 am »
I have read a lot about the benefits to raw meat and how freezing it is bad. I'm curious how many people can actually set their schedule up to only eat raw fresh (never been frozen) meat. I would like to be able to eat that way but it's not  necessarily feasable. Anyone have sugestions to help or how they may have delt with this.  thanks ;D

In Aajous's books (and i've noticed it also)  I get anxiety attacks from to much fruit and nuts. both he says are less important then the meats. (if i eat to many almonds i get panic attacks and have evn had times that i couldn't sleep at night.) also certian fruits set me off (2 many strawberries as an example)  I tr and maintai (though not on purpose it just happens this way) an 80 20 ration meat to other things. I was a vergitarian before i learned about this type of diet and this one works better for your mind and emotional state i think  ;)

Health / Re: Allergies
« on: July 25, 2009, 08:53:14 am »
I'm new to paleo  eating (and still transitioning)  I have used  a high quality probiotic (it's the nutrilite intestiflora... i would take it 3 times a day for 4 weeks andthen my allergies were gone. Now i just have to maintain it i guess)  I really needed a jumpstart I was coming off a lot of medications for asthma and allergies and etc etc.. I eat honey every day. I think it's great to take a big spoonful in mineral water (just stir it in). It's ike an italian soda (even my kids will eat drink it)  I also got a great vacume cleaner. Your parents can use an organic cat shampoo and it will help. it's not usually the hair people are allergic to it is actually the sweat and some dander that cause a problem.  It is usually an environmental combination (i understand traveling places with pets) I use to get asthma attacks and seize up along with sneezing fits that left me aching (like your whiplast sneezes). Talk to your mom too about her laundry soap. the cat and other influences all make it worse.  So honey is what I use, and then I try and take care of the environmental issues like making sure the cats are washed regularly and the places you put your face and where you sit and lounge at your parents it clean

General Discussion / Re: I found a sushi market!
« on: May 28, 2009, 03:14:43 am »
I've eaten a lot of sushi in my life, i found the best thing to do (since i am usually pretty shy about asking questions ) is i hit up the local library cooking section and found a sushi cook book. I lived in Japan while growing up and have tried just about everythig. it can sometimes be easier to try it with the rice first to ease into the flavor, or sashimi platters are great too. The cook book is nice because some of them tell you about what kinds of fish go well to gether and other sashimi sauces.

I buy wild caught fish at the store and slice that up as well. Room temperature always makes it taste better. Even now though I stay away from lake caught fish.

General Discussion / Re: mercury in fish...
« on: May 27, 2009, 08:52:45 am »
I think there may be a lot to be said about what is available in your area. Where I live there are lake fish but most of the lakes are to toxic to even take fish from them if you planned on cooking everything out of it.

I think that eating raw from your region may have more effects on you then eating what is cheapest or the easiest to get a hold of. I don't live near the ocean anymore but that is where I grew up and those foods make me feel better then 'plains foods' like buffalo, or even beef. Has anyone else noticed these?
