Hot Topics / only grainfed bio animals
« on: April 05, 2011, 03:43:59 am »
Hi,

at the moment I have only access to grainfed animals. I eat raw fish and fishroe and eggs. But it starts getting boring and I can not eat very much of it. I would like to add liver and bone marrow to my diet and some meat. Is grain fed liver and bone marrow ok grainfed or is it better not to eat land animals at all if I dont have access to grassfed. What about lard? And grainfed chicken?

Hi Löwenherz,

did you ever tried the Weidelandfleisch? I think it is grassfed and finished.

I did not try high meat yet but sometimes my fish ist quite aged and a bit smelly, I let it open in my ventilated fridge (Don't know it it counts). Also I do my own Sauerkraut and Kimchi.
It seems that I dont digest meat at all at the moment. I eat fish insted.

Me too I started with kefir after I stopped dairy completely for a year. Was scared because I thought it could be the reason for inflamation issues I had. Was on and off Paleo but I don't really enjoy eating so much meat and marrow. Makes me always sick after some time. Now I am on a lot of fish and fish roe and eggs, some with whites and also cooked veggies (not so sure about that).
When I started with a little bit of goats kefir 3 days ago I felt so perfectly good after it (did it sort of Budwig style with flax seed and some grated veggies) but I am still sort of scared. There are so many negative comments about dairy.
I would love to gain weight, healthy weight!
How do you eat your kefir, just plain? What else do you eat the whole day, do you include fruit, veggies or do you do very low carb?
Why do you drink milk and not kefir (wouldn't it be better?)
I love kefir, it feels good, looks good and is super easy to digest and I could eat it all  day.

I had the same  problem with a raw meat high fat diet with very little carbs. Developed a lot of spider veins on my legs and panicked and stoped the paleo diet for a while.
I am experimenting now, doing only fish and veggies and seeweed and sprouts, that does not seem to give me vein problems.

Hi,

I also have stomach issues, but with me it is the opposite, I seem to need a lot of hcl to digest at all. If I dont take Hcl + Lemonjuice and often something fermented my food seems to stay in my stomach and I feel sooo nauesous and I need a long time til I can eat again. I lost some weight because of this digestion thing. I seem to have problems with fat digestion and protein digestion. Carbs dont give me this nauseous feeling but they make me bloated and with some carbs, esp. fruits, my blood sugar goes crazy.
Any Ideas how to improve fat and protein digestion?
Raw-all, would you please tell me witch book is the best and comprehensivest about Ayurveda and Nutrition. I already read a lot about Ayurveda but you seems to know a lot more and I would like to know your resources. Ayurveda realy resonates with me, it makes so mutch sense.

I eat a lot of sardins and thought about drying the bones and then mix them in the Vitamix. Would the powder then be somehow as nutritious as bone broth?

Hi Sully,

1,65 m (5,4 feet) and 42 kg (92,6 pounds). I haven t got a lot of muscle mass right now. In fact I havent got mutch bodymass. Before I became vegan was in good shape, as a vegan I lost weight and had a harder time building muscles  :( I hope that with all this animal protein I will gain weight now and muscles. ;D
I just have to find a way to get enough calories with this diet. Today I felt so sick I could hardly eat. I have to eat more tomorro to balance it. I dont like this pressure. I am looking forward to the time when I have found the perfect diet for me  ;)

Hi Sully,

thanks for the photos, so now I know your face.
I think I will stop eating so often.
This night I was supersick, I just eat to often to mutch to mixed but I am so scared of loosing weight and I always want to gain weight.
With meat only I am quickly satisfied, always when I try it I loose weight. I consider cooking a bit something like quinoa just for the goal of gaining weight. Fruit would be easy but I dont want all the sugar and anyway I am not very fond of fruit. Does not satisfy me at all.
Hanna, so you dont eat so mutch meat at all. Why?
Where do you get your meat and what kind of meat, what cuts do you like?

Hi Sully,

I am definetly not a raw vegan in desguise. Not at all vegan (any more) and not 100 % raw neither.
I will post some up to date photos I think, but where can I see your pictures?
I just changed to 4 meals a day because 2 large meals I find hard to digest and also I tend to overeat with only two meals. 3 meals I did before, now I try 4 because I would like to gain weight and think that this way I can eat, tolerate more food, kcal without stuffing myself.

Hi Cinna,
How long are you on this diet and how are things going for you with paleo?
these spider veins are on my leggs, they are not big, just smal broken veins under the surface. I can live with it, just dont wont them to become more. And it is definetely not a sign of perfect health.
I wonder if I am I the only one one this board with  spider veins? Everybody askes for a description and fotos and nobody seems to know .them Strange, because when I go to the beach here almost everybody I see has it. Perhaps people in Europe are different.

miles, your picture is quite an upturn, I hope my legs will never look like this!
How did you recognise that your  circulation slowed down?
How much fat did you eat and what do you eat now.
I think you mean one should eat organs. I thought about it but I dont now where to buy it. It is so hot, the bio-butcher said it is to hot at the moment to sell organs???
I can only buy organic meat here, dont know if it is grasfed. Might be a reason for this vein problem. If the animals are grainfed I  eate a lot of Omega 6 I guess.
I would like to find a source of good animal products here in france

Hi Forthhunter,

no, I don't eat so mutch meat, especially at the moment I am limiting my consomation because I am scared it could be the cause of my vein problem.
In the evening I eat fish. It should be very good for the circulatory system and prevents inflamation.
Thanks for the clarification about the fat intake. I really cant eat as mutch fat yet to meat my energy needs, it just makes me sick. Lean meat as an energy source feels also not healthy to me so I have to take some carbs in addition. Yesterday and today I eate a lot of buckwheat, mong beans, lentils and sunflower sprouts. I think in this forum you are not very fond of sprouts. I the last year I always come back to eating a lot of sprouts as energy source. Dont know so many sources of raw carb I digest well. Most fruit are to sweet for me and give me candida, veggies are hard to digest and have not so mutch kcal, and nuts are so fatty I cant eat so many. What kind of paleo carbs are the the best?

Hanna,
as I said, I dont do well with fruit. I eat some but have to be very carefull.
Avocados and Nuts I do eat but I have to improve my fat digestion I think before I can rely on fat as my main energy source.
You dont eat so mutch meat so what do you eat insted? How a typical day looks like for you regarding food intake?
I saw that you are german. I am german a well (living in france), where do you live?

Ok, I try to make fotos when I go to the beach but it is just a lot of fine brocken blue veins under the surface of  my skin and this is NOT pretty.
I dont think it is hereditary, and it got clearly worse with paleo  and it makes me freak out.
Forthehunter, when I eat more lean meat, isn't it a burden for the kidneys?
And how I get all my calories. I would love to gain some pounds also.
Anyway, where are the women on this forum und why are not so mutch of it here?

General Discussion / spider veins on raw paleo
« on: July 18, 2010, 04:38:01 am »
Hi all,

for a couple of weaks I am on a raw paleo diet and since then I have a massive proliferation of spider veins.
I paniked and added veggies and sprouts back to my diet and cut meat and fish to max 100 g per meal. I dont know I someone has experinced something like that or nows how to prevent it. I really need to know the reason because I have to stop it. Thought perhaps it could be the massive amounts of fat I eat just to keep my weight (and also as a goal to gain weight) I often feel so heavy and sluggish after a mealwith lots of fat  for a long time and if I my blood flow is as sluggish as how I feel than it is not so amazing that the circulation is hindert I think.
I also thought about why is it that there are mostly men on this forum. Is it that this diet is not so beneficial  for women because to heavy in protein or fat or to acid or I dont know?
I would love to  find my way on this diet because I think paleo is really cool.
And I absolutly have to stop this spider veins buissnes.
Would it perhaps help to eat more fish or less fat or whatever???
At the moment I eat 3 or 4 times a day fatty meat or fish with some herbs and veggies, between 70 and 150 g per meal.

Hi Tyler,

why do you advise against too much sea food .I have some circulation problems and with the raw paleo meat and fat eating it got worse.I thought fish would be a good option because it is lighter and thins the blood

Hi,

I like to eat fish, especially sardins at the moment because they are very fat and good for blood type O and also not so expensive. But they do not keep very long in the fridge so I thought it would be good to make my own oil sardins.
The recipe says that you have to soak  them first in lemon or vinegar for some hours and than to cover it with olive oil.
After this preperation are the sardins still considert natural or is the acid and the olive oil somehow harmfull to the protein.
Is there any other way to conserve fatty fish. Drying is not an option I think because of the fat oxidation.

wouldn`t it be better to grind the meat before eating it? Then you can chew all of it and it might be better digestibel.

Hi raw-all,

makes a lot of sense what you are writing. I wish I had known about it earlier.
what do you use for your veggie juice. would be juicing sprouts a good idea?
with the juicing thing I don't get it. Some say that it is superhealthy and others, a lot of paleos as well, think that stuff is poisonous because of the antinutritions and stuff. I think lots of greens have some antinutritions, carrots and things have starches, cruciferus have goiterogens, some plants have a lot of oxalic acid and so on. What do you think about wheatgras. And do you think smoothies could be good?
At the moment I just put vegetable, spices, meat or fish and something fatty like butter or coconut or bone marrow or avocado in a food processor and mix it until I cant be see or taste what it was before and than I can eat (and digest) it.  actually it tastes quite good and I don't need much of it. I would love to let go of the huge amounts of food I had to eat as a raw vegan. You are so right with what you wrote about vata eating sprouts and vegetable's is like eating stones. This is how I feel a long time. I eat and I eat ( all so healthy stuff) but I am starving. The only time I could gain weight and substance while doing raw was when I ate a lot of high sugar fruit with nuts.  But I was never very comfortable with all this fruit, made me irritable and hurt my teethe. High fat as a raw vegan did not work for me neather. I always felt sick with all this fat and the huge fat veggie smoothies I made. So  I found this thing with eating sprouts as a staple food. Do you think it would be good to cook the sprouts
About eggs, this morning I was a bit hungry so I decided to start my day with two raw egg yolks. O my god, I was so  sick the whole day, don't now if it was because 2 is to much or if it was just to early to eat, (normally I do not eat so fast after getting up? Anyway I have this problem a lot, I eat something, often if some fat is involved, and after it I am really really sick, often cant eaten for a long time after it, seems that everything rests in my stomach, does not moves for hours and makes me nauseous. At the end I often loose weight this way, funny because I did it simply to gain weight -\
Because raw paleo is also high fat I am wondering if I could strengthen my fat digesting abilities. Or is it that it will come when I have myself adapted  with the new foods?
Why do you think that flax is not good for me? High in omega 3. And what about hemp?
I always head you should not eat the egg white raw. You think it is better?
How do you feel with the raw paleo diet? Do you recognize some improvement? I think I do have to read ajonious books, the fist one I bought already, the second one is quite expensive. Is there any other book you can recommend.
It must be difficult to stay on the diet while traveling. Where do you travel to?

all the best
Noel

Hi raw-all,

thanks a lot for your answer, it will help me a lot I think. How comes that you know so much about ayurveda. I saw that you are Canadian. As a raw foodist with some vata, don t you have problems to keep yourself warm in the canadien winter?
All that I wrote about Ayurveda and nutrition is that they advise to eat mostly cooked food, especially for vata. And everything in moderation. And grains and legumes with all meals and some cooked veggies and some raw. Eating almost exclusively animal flesh and products does not seem to fit very well in the context? Do you eat veggies As well or fruits or nuts to balance your meals and to bring variety or do you think it is better to stay with animal food only?
Everything you wrote about the vata dosha feels very right to me and I really will pratice these things. Do you think I have to totally stop eating raw vegetables or can I take some perhaps with meet and butter? And sprouts? I used to love my sprouts (but I allways get bloated when I eat to mutch or to often of them). About egg yolks, how mutch per day would be reasonable for a woman. I know it is difficult to answer, the reason I ask is that  I always read that 2 yolks  per day is the max. but I love them and I could even eat some more. What do you think about bone marrow? And about Avocado, Olives and coconut (some Staples for me) and about flax seed?
How is your daily diet and routine? What dosha are you and since when and why are you paleo.

quite some questions ;) thanks a lot for your help
blessings

Hi raw-all,

what you are writing is very interesting.  I never thougt Ayurveda could be compatibel with raw paleo.
I am a raw foodist for years, mostly vegetarien and vegan und quite very smal I think I definitly have to gain weight but I do not get it with veggies and sprouts and nuts and stuff, that is why I am going to try raw paleo. I like the Ayurvedic aproach and tried it a coupel of times but this mostly vegetarien cooking thing does not feels right to me.
I am a vata almost 100 % and a woman. So what should I eat in an ayurvedic paleo lifestyl.
Why do thy write that lamb is not good for Vata. I thougt it must be very good because it is so yang (heating) and I feel often very cold. And it is a healty meat. What about dairy. I used to make my own raw goat joghurt and I have sometimes raw sheep cheese and raw butter of corse and raw cream?
Also I still eat a lot of raw veggies, it is a habit and it satisfies my hunger, is it good for me?
What about sprouts like buckwheat and oats, lentils, I think it is not even paleo? And wild Herbs?
How much raw eggs would be ok for a smal vata woman?
Would love to know what you think about it.

:) Noel
