General Discussion / Re: Antibacterial power of ginger
« on: November 18, 2009, 11:49:10 pm »
You're right, I knew it had those properties, as do so many other natural agents. I didn't realize it was that powerful, though! I didn't know lung cancer patients couldn't handle ginger, either.

There was a thread here on the benefits of parasites & "pathogens." I think I haven't been giving that as much attention as I should. I wonder if I should use less ginger in our juices perhaps. Now that I think about it, I forgot to add lemon rind and ginger to yesterday's batch of juice and my digestion was improved last night. Maybe I've been overdoing it. I've been trying to keep us from getting the flu and - it seems - killing our "little buddies" in the process

I have a good mushroom. That was a test batch.

A sliver of raw ginger root killed 16 oz of kombucha culture in 12 hours.

I had added it to a test batch for flavor. I wasn't expecting it to kill the culture.

Kombucha culture is bacteria + yeast

Definitely we have godlike qualities.  We can affect our environments a lot more than other animals can theirs.  With that, of course why not enjoy our status.  As gods though, what are we doing on Earth in each our own personal body?

That is not the idea of god that I meant. An exterior god "out there in the clouds" is a mechanism for abdicating responsibility.

People want to be creators without respecting natural constraints.

We both populate freely and use our creative powers to prevent death.

That's a "split" point of view. The id (animal part) is good when we satisfy the sex and reproduction urge, but bad when it results in death and scarcity. The superego (externalized god) is easily ignored when we want to indulge the id and good when we "enjoy our status" by prolonging life and providing ease.

The split point of view is causing unnatural pain and suffering for persons and people.

Wow, you are so right!

I'm reading Price's book and just finished a chapter where he describes the spontaneous healing of teeth with improved diet.

I wonder how many cases of cancer are reversed naturally and the person never even knew they had cancer at all.

humans ARE animals

We aren't animals, we have a neurology that can alter biology. We are gods.

I wouldn't tell anyone what to do. These are personal matters, but very serious matters.

We've cut way back on bread, just enough to accompany a tsp of ghee and a tbsp of raw honey once a day.

We're eating about 90% raw.

I replaced olive oil with marrow so we're eating no vegetable oils any more.

Most muscle meats are raw now too and only tinned fish & some organ meats are cooked.

Everyone is healthy and satisfied and no one has asked for "junk food" in weeks.

I keep a chart on the frig to help with food choices:

Saw this on another forum:

"I just hate bone marrow. I have very vivid memories of my mother having to choke it and fat trimmings down as a "prescription" when she got Leukemia in the 1950's. Talk about the dark ages of cancer treatment."

Also, when I was looking up carpaccio, I came across:

"A wealthy lady, who was an everyday customer, was indeed told by her doctor to eat only raw meat. Unfortunately, at the time, it was not socially acceptable that a lady of her status would order "raw meat" at the most elegant restaurant in the city. It was the waiter who suggested her to use a different name for it. Apparently a painting by Carpaccio was hanging on the wall at the Savini at the time, and the waiter suggested Carpaccio as the "code name" for the dish..."

The latter sounds like "urban legend," however, and I couldn't find a reliable citation.

Dr. Gerson also used raw liver juice in his juice formulas in the 1950s for cancer treatment.

she's cute and look healthy

her picture here

many women on the 811 have stopped menstruating

I don't want to fan the flames, but I think we should be realistic.

Extreme diets do not tend to yield good results - as goodsamaritan points out, they are too rigid - it becomes the tyranny of the mind subjugating the body that I ranted about in another post.

I appreciate the humanity on this forum and hope we can remain kind and moderate in the best interest of all.

We probably should not engage in this food-throwing and keep our attention on supporting good nutrition and healthy eating habits for all.

I hope everyone can find satisfaction and be well.

Fair skin is an advantage where there is a less sunlight. Fair skin absorbs more vitamin D from the sun, so people with dark skin have a harder time getting necessary vitamin D in colder climates.

This is the explanation I am familiar with, that the change occurred due to an adaptation along the lines of natural selection.

Where there is snow there will be sunglare - and tanning of exposed skin even in "winter" or overcast conditions.

Perhaps it is the lack of sunlight as much as the cold that is discouraging? Techniques of feng shui bring light and energy into your home. I did this last winter and it helped significantly.

Rather than cold and dark causing decay, they cause contraction - like hibernation. You live in an unusual climate and it seems that in order to thrive there a person would need to find ways of inducing vitality - just as those in a warmer climate learn to conserve it.

I hope you are soon feeling better!

I have a huge thing for pulled pork right now. I cant eat enough. I make it so I know what is in it. Every morning I have an egg omelet with bacon and cheese plus some extra butter.

You are in a community here of people who eat raw meat and animal foods - raw paleolithic diet. So raw omelet, raw bacon, etc ?  ;)

Recently completed a 2 km ocean swim after 6 months of learning how to swim with correct technique.

This is exciting! "Open water swimming" is a sport that we've investigated because pool water is so damaging. Some kids in a neighboring HS developed respiratory problems and lost the hair on their bodies because of high chlorine levels in the school's pool - I guess they didn't maintain it like they should have. We've been trying to utilize a natural lake nearby but found that it really does require a different set of mental skills because you can't see the bottom (with that handy line painted on it) and because the water is colder. Add waves and it's a whole new puppy.

We haven't been able to find any clubs or groups that train or do open water swimming events here. We have few bodies of water here and little creativity, it seems. There are clubs in a few cities and in coastal communities.

Is this a sport that is common in Australia? What certain skills are required and what was the experience of ocean swimming?

I hope your symptoms improve. Sometimes we have to stray to realize where we need to be  ;)

Best always!

I thought that bplaa raa wasn't cured - are you sure?

"Bplaa raa starts as an assortment of freshwater fish, whatever's been pulled up with the net. After being cleaned the fish are packed with salt and rice bran or powdered rice in big, rounded earthenware jars called hai saen. The jars are covered and left outside for anywhere from six months to two years. A strong sun will hurry things along."
http://eatingasia.typepad.com/eatingasia/2006/08/a_sublime_stenc.html

Does that mean it's cured? Soaked in brine? I thought so, but maybe I'm wrong.

please add the various entries/descriptions of any newly added raw animal food dishes to the first post, thanks.

I don't know how to do this. My "modify" link disappears once someone has replied to a post.

Yes! Perhaps the mods can maintain the list of links as a sticky since this may be helpful to many!

jerky
Russian fish diets

I wasn't sure about cured raw meats. Some don't consider cured meats to be truly raw. Bplaa raa falls into this category, as does gravlax and lox - the list would be longer but I nixed anything that was obviously cured.

Thoughts on this?

Want to throw this out:

In a pantheistic/pagan/taoist/ecological/etc world-view, there is no subject/object as with the monotheist worldview.

A monotheistic worldview is good-bad, me-them, life-death, with the requirement that the thinker take a position in order to function in the paradigm.

In the pantheistic worldview, life is a fluctuating network of relationships. Plants are as equally "alive" as animals and are not considered in isolation from the larger network. Death is interwoven with life. This is a more accurate worldview, as evidenced not only by mere observation but also by investigations in physics, biology etc. Mythology provides many examples of how the pantheistic "collective" operates in human understanding.

(I owe a former member here a great debt for recommending the author Fritjof Capra, which broadened my perspective and lead to many rich investigations.)

I bring this up because it is (I believe) impossible to find the "right" answer, the "right" diet, etc. There are only configurations and tolerances. There are natural corrections that guide decisions toward optimal health, if we can stay aware of them. I think it's much easier to care for yourself if you adopt a more authentic, and more ancient, paradigm than the Cartesian & monotheistic mind/body split which defies personality integration.

Relax, be aware, be alive.  :)
