Is it possible to gain fat if you eat too much on a purely carnivorous diet?

I find it pretty hard to gain weight eating only meat.
I don't think it would be impossible, but I would get tired of meat and I think that might get expensive if I were to try.
Also take into account the different types of fat. Subcutaneous could probably grow if you ate a lot. But visceral fat is almost not existent without plants. Visceral fat is just a parasite feeding on unused carbs.

How much do you think someone would have to eat? Like 6 pounds a day?

If you were my son at 14 years old, I'd want you to eat high everything.
High fats, high protein, high carbs.
Eat 5 or more times a day.
Sleep and sleep.
You have a lot of growing up to do.

At your age you should be getting taller and taller and taller and becoming fat is next to impossible on a paleo diet.

Got it. I am more asking about if the general fit person can though. I am so freakin close to a 6 pack that I really don't want to gain any fat....probably like half a percent body fat and bingo O0

Yes, it is.
Lex said this in his journal.

That's right. If your fat intake ratio is too high, you can gain weight/fat.If you want to be "lean",then eat lean.Kind of simple actually. However,if you want to be "healthy",then you need to balance your % of fat intake so that you get enough to maintain your energy levels.

Btw,this metabolism doesn't occur until your body is accustomed to deriving its energy from fats as opposed to carbs/sugar.

From Lex's journal it seems that you can gain weight, but it only happens after a  long period when you're fully adapted to getting energy from fat in the diet.

I Believe you are wrong sir ;)
Fat by itself wont let you gain weight.
From lex journal when he was on 80:20 fat protein ratio he stayed same weight
but when he changed to 70:30 fat protein he gained 10lbs.

The theory he proved is body converts excess protein to glucose!!
But when zero carb probably body does it better so you are half right or something  :)

I just had to check  ;)
Quote
There is a widely accepted belief that if you eat ZC you can’t gain weight.  This is not true.  During the first 18 months or so, your body is adapting to burning fatty acids rather than carbs as its primary fuel.  Initially it is very inefficient and many of the calories you eat are discarded.  However, after 18 months or so, your body will have adapted and you will again gain weight unless you keep calorie intake equal too or less than energy expenditure.   In all fairness, it is easier to keep calories down as fat is very satisfying and you naturally eat less.  But don’t fool yourself into thinking that just because you lose lots of weight when you initially go ZC or VLC that this will go on forever.  Unfortunately it doesn’t.

http://www.rawpaleoforum.com/carnivorous-zero-carb-approach/anyone-have-years-worth-of-zc-carnivorous/msg23388/#msg23388

It wasn't in the journal though.

Yes,fat becomes the primary energy source and when ratio is too high, one can gain weight. This has been established.Even if protein can be turned to glucose it's more of an alternate/secondary energy source than a weight gain factor. And,if it influences weight gain at all,it wouldn't be a major factor. At least, that's my understanding.Feel free to clarify with Lex.

Doesn't make any sense. By that logic, people on a 'rabbit starvation' diet would gain weight.

I'm 175cm and I was 59kg after 6 months of raw veganism (mostly fruitarian) then i switched to Cooked-ZC and gained about 5 KGs, i ate the fattiest cuts i could find, ate alot and i was still slightly underweight. Interestingly enough, i gained another 3kg when i switched from Cooked-ZC to Raw-ZC despite eating less meat, i'm happy with my 67kg right now, perfect weight i think. So it absolutely is possible to gain weight if you were on a very strict diet but if you switch to ZC from S.A.D, you will lose weight for sure.

Don't worry about it. By the time you get that far you'll be happy that you're adapted enough to get extra energy.

Eating too much butter will make you gain for sure. I had the problem with gaining and couldn't track the problem as I thought I was doing everything right: fat fat fat, meat. But butter has the ability to trigger insuline into the bloodstream which makes you store the fat you eat. http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/butter-and-insulin.html

That's the same with lots of people who are trying to lose weight.
Eliminating the dairy is really helpful.
