One thing non-paleo you occasionally indulge on?
« on: February 27, 2011, 10:37:42 am »
Do any of you have one thing you occasionally indulge on that is not good for you or non-paleo? For some reason, granola is something Im having trouble not eating occasionally but I guess it could be worse  >D

My past ones:

- cashew, once a month or less... although I wouldn't say indulge.  Indulge would mean a deficiency or gorging on something.
- I did eat a lot of dates the first time I got them, but then I quickly got my fill of dates, I don't care for them anymore.

Lately none.

Once in a while I still love to have a seared fatty steak cooked by my mom. I just love the way the fat tastes all juicy and rich in flavor. Dont really indulge in sweets at all and dont crave sweet things.

The Causes and Prevention of Cancer
Quote
Cooking food also generates thousands of chemicals. There are over 1000 chemicals reported in a cup of coffee. Only 26 have been tested in animal cancer tests and more than half are rodent carcinogens; there are still a thousand chemicals left to test. The amount of potentially carcinogenic pesticide residues consumed in a year is less than the amount known of rodent carcinogens in a cup of coffee.

Cause and effect are distant in time and space in complex systems, while at the same time there’s a tendency to look for causes near the events sought to be explained. Time delays in feedback in systems result in the condition where the long-run response of a system to an action is often different from its short-run response. — Ronald J. Ziegler

Ah, definitely coffee for me! I enjoy my espresso or Turkish brew, although it's not really paleo.

Viennese Cakes.

Clear, transparent alcohol.

Croissants( these days they feel so dry like sawdust that I have to chase them down with gulps of mineral water), whereas in prerawpalaeodiet times they slid down fine - it seems seriously dehydrated foods are a problem for me now).

Cooked meat, fish and veggies once or twice a month. Of course, I pay my price to be sick for sometimes after consuming cooked fish/meat. I love chilies and extremely hot peppers. Are they paleo?

No, they are hot for a reason but who cares. Out of all the things you could eat, some hot peppers aren't bad at all.

A Rooibos Cappucino with honey (Rooibos is a South African herbal tea - in coffee shops here, they now make RED Expressos and RED Cappucinos - rather nice).
Normally served with a tiny square of shortbread which I don't say no to!!

Steamed veg with ghee.

Most tempting for me is cottage cheese, buttermilk and cream.  I have lost the desire to eat most other non-paleo foods.  I won't eat any dairy now simply because it is all cooked/pasteurized, but I want to try raw milk/raw cream and raw cottage cheese.  I may be able to digest it better.

After over three months on a strict raw paleo diet, I have eaten grilled chicken on 3 occasions and also ate steam and grilled shrimp a couple of times over the past two months.  I also had a beer one night and had a glass of wine with dinner tonight.  I still eat mostly raw paleo every day but do see the need for the occasional cooked (paleo) meal now and then as I travel since it is hard to always carry food around and eat raw meat with business colleagues.  I try and meet my business contacts in Japanese restaurants but this does not always work out.

Not unless you count grassfed butter as nonpaleo--but I don't. And I eat tons to quite good effect.
