General Discussion / Re: Any problems with ground beef?
« on: March 01, 2010, 09:55:50 am »
Well that ground beef I bought in bulk, it's going dark all the way through now and the taste is getting less pleasant each time.. Is there any point I should worry about eating it? It's in tight-seal bags(~500g each). It's Vacuum-packed but since it's mince it doesn't work properly. The meat is all exposed because it's mince so it's weakened and the bacteria are free to multiply like mad. I'm not sure if it's too much bacteria... Or if not, whether it may be soon... I should have frozen it immediately like it advised =/ I won't get mince again anyway... I don't know how similar it is to bacteria in thawed frozen meat or cooked meat, since it's minced. Anyone help answer?

Thanks.

Hey. That's what I did Yon.. 40C/104F. How much suet do you eat and how do you get on with it..?

Is that bad RawZi, that it's so saturated/waxy/cholesterol'y'? When you say 'been there', what do you mean? Did you stop eating it, or have you adapted to it so it tastes better now?

Thanks.

SUET IS THE MAIN SOURCE OF FAT IN AN ANIMAL.

That is what I needed to know!!!!!! Damn clearly if it's the main source of fat in an animal then we MUST be able to eat it if we are in good health... Damn I sent an email to a butcher which will make me look really fricking stupid... 'We' must be able to eat a lot of suet right?

By the way, that horrible powdery suet I had, I just left it near my boiler and it went soft and sticky. I guess this is how it would be in a fresh animal too as it'd be warm. It really doesn't taste of much, but it still feels good to eat nevertheless. Do you think I'll develop a taste for it once my body recognises it as food? At the moment, if anything, it tastes a bit like plastic, not that I've ever eaten any. I think that's my eyes and nose tasting it rather than my tongue.

w00t!

It feels great to have possibly unlocked a new food-source.

Oh crap... I'm wondering if the reason it tasted like plastic is because it kind of was a little bit plastic... I had it in plastic bags across the top of the boiler because it was just 'ticking over', but someone actually 'put the gass on', and it got rather hotter than I'd expected. I actually discarded the bits which had been exposed to the most heat as they'd been heat-damaged. I hope I wasn't eating(many, as there'd be some even at 5 degrees C I expect) plastic chemicals.

A whole cow, would that last you ~6 months if it stayed fresh?

=/ So even the hide fat under the skin is suet? It doesn't seem like there is much nice fat on an animal.. I certainly like all the fat which comes with the muscles but.. o_O I'm not very knowledgeable about the fat distribution.

Is any of the suet nice or what is the least bad? I'm sure I've had some nice suet or something like it.. It was a big chunk but it was soft, long..

If I'm going to request stuff without seeing it from a butcher a long way away I need to know what I'm on about but I really don't. =/

The supermarket butcher get TONS of perfect lamb fat every day which they trim from the muscle... but they not allowed to sell it... It's ridiculous.

General Discussion / Order Mistake
« on: February 28, 2010, 02:36:28 am »
OK, so I wanted to make another order from the same place I got my grass-fed beef from before. The only affordable 'cut' they had in stock this time though was mince. They had a special offer, 15% off order >£50 and it was the last chance to get that offer, so I just went ahead and bought 18x500g packets of beef mince as I wasn't even sure if I'd make another order without that offer as I'd thought it'd been permanent last time. In the last order I'd bought one packet of beef mince to see how it was. The trouble is, that it was the first thing I ate so the comparison wasn't great. I thought it had a decent amount of fat but it has almost none, almost all the stuff I thought was fat is very clearly connective tissue. Last time I was used to being deficient in fat so I didn't notice it... Plus, there is a lot of unpleasant bacterial waste-product even though they've been vacuum packed.

So I thought, OK, I can handle that it's lean and musty, because at least they included some EDIBLE fat trimmings like I'd asked them to. No... I don't know what it is, but it looks smooth and moist on the outside, but it's almost rock-hard, powder crumbles from the faces/edges and it sort of breaks apart. Anyway, it dries/clogs up my throat and in my past experience of similar fats it also gives me digestive problems later on(not reached that point yet)... What is this stuff? I might be able to give a picture. How/why would any fat be like this, where's it from in the body...? What in its' composition makes it have this texture?

This came up in a search for suet in google images: http://hailbritannia.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/img_2986.jpg

But the stuff in that picture actually looks like some stuff I quite like, stuff I get from my local butchers if I ask for 'fat trimmings', comes in a big lump... but it's moist and refreshing, energising etc.. although it actually looks like it might be a bit dry from the outside. The stuff I got however looks like it could be really nice.

I'm annoyed.. They must've had better fat than this and I would even have paid for it.. but my order was large enough that I shouldn't have needed to. I did specify edible fat... Now I am stranded, as I had anticipated the order to be something it wasn't and have no way to get out of the mess.

Actually I suppose my stuff looks a bit more like this other result for 'suet': http://hailbritannia.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/img_2990.jpg

What is back-fat like?

Only thing is that there are different ways of writing the same thing.

80/20 - Meat/Fat
20/20 - Protein/Fat
33.3/67.7 - Protein Calories/Fat Calories

That can get confusing when people don't say which they mean >.>

Off Topic / Re: Eau de Cancer
« on: February 26, 2010, 11:27:31 pm »
Yes I do. I've smelt it on several people and animals who are known to have cancer. Three people from my ex-high-school, two who died from brain tumours and one who's face is deformed from where they had a tumour; and my parents' cat who died from a tumour on his face. Then, more recently I smelt it on a woman who sat behind me on a bus, who I doubt realised yet that she had cancer.

By the way, my ex-high-school had some sort of telephone mast on its' roof, so...

Has anyone noticed that they can smell when someone has cancer..?

This is very off-topic, but I just wanted to see... It's not that I think it's an unusual thing to be able to smell it, I was just wondering if anyone had actually noticed that they can.

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Brushing Teeth
« on: February 26, 2010, 09:32:50 pm »
Is there anyone here who's been raw carnivorous ZC and not brushed their teeth for enough time for them to have an opinion on whether it's good or bad?

I've heard, regarding one other orifice which I don't possess, that washing/using chemicals can upset the pH balance and cause problems/smells. It is said that this orifice produces specific chemicals of its' own to clean itself and one should be careful interfering with its' own balance.

Would the mouth be similar?
________________________________________________

The problem with sugar, I think, is that anaerobic bacteria use it and produce lactic acid which wears away at one's teeth. Can anything similar happen if one is only eating meat/fat/water..?
________________________________________________

I've gone ~2days without brushing my teeth to try it. My teeth are in no pain, but there is a sort of ache there which makes me want to brush  them. There is also a fairly unpleasant taste in my mouth.

It depends what you are comparing it to...

1567
That's what I did pc707. It's little steps at a time. Initially after going paleo(cooked meat) I kept going back to grains now and again, learning that they were bad and then after a while had none. Gradually I stopped having anything with added salt as I learnt myself through accumulation of experience that it wasn't good for me. Same was happening with fruits. Gradually I was having less and less. Initially for digestion issues, and later more and more linking them to all inflammation and reducing them until eliminating. Still a few times I've gone back and had some fruit and it's given me the problems each time and the amount of times I've gone back to them has decreased. A part of that is learning what I am lacking(sleep, fat, meat, frequency, water) which could('ve) be causing me to go back to them occasionally.

Late.. must..sleep.. gnigh.t.t

While you are recovering carbs are a must.

What do you know? Whole grains, dairy is a must. I'm not saying your statement is wrong or right, but you making it is wrong. You do not know this.

Of course you feel better AFTER you feel worse. Wtf kind of stupidity is that? The only thing that'd speed up your detox would be to take in a lot of extra toxins for your body to handle. Then it only speeds up because you've sped up putting them in... Everything else will leave gradually by itself, and the less you're putting in the more negative your 'toxin gradient' will be...

Not responding to anyone specifically, but: I had a load of juicy grass-fed vac-packed beef briskets. One of them I accidentally froze because it was too close to the cooling element. After defrosting, when I tipped it out of the pack into a bowl, it was filled to the brim with blood. As opposed to all the others where the blood was contained within the meat.

Phil, you mean your fat digestion's actually improved over time? Or just that aged-suet is easier to digest?

1573
I would think that the reason our teeth are less vicious than other predators is because we have hands... They use their teeth to attack and maim, not just to eat.

There's nothing wrong with ketosis. Ketonemia is good - prolonged ketonuria is bad.

If I'm not long ZC, could ketonuria be why I have pain from dryness/cracking in my bottom lip? If it was, then that should decrease as I use more of the ketones? I don't feel particularly thirsty but still have this problem.

But those peoples' meat stays cold, from the moment the animal's killed to the moment it's eaten it stays cold. It isn't defrosted, and if it was maybe they'd then boil it, or just eat it fresh before it freezes in the first place.
