When I started reading on raw food they said it could take up to a year for a person to start liking the taste of raw meat. That was scary. Only took me 3 weeks.

Its not scary I find it normal and healthy...I dunno why it takes some people THAT long to get this "acquired" taste, and why people say you must really eat 100% raw to learn to like it, I am sorry but I find that not true for some people.
I always liked raw beef, I even still eat some cooked food - and I still like it, even when I wasn't at all raw or paleo much I always ate a bit of raw beef just was afraid to eat large amount because of all the stupid false scares. Now I am sure I can safely gorge on all types of raw meat!
My boyfriend similar, actually he eats a lot of crap still and lots of cooked food, but all the time munches on raw meats, so no, you don't necessarily have to be strict paleo to enjoy the taste, you just have to enjoy the taste, or learn to enjoy it.

« on: January 03, 2011, 04:25:12 am »
When you think about it why do we have to eat?

Same reason as why other animals eat, or have, sex, or breathe....because its natural to do so.

How much of the food/nutrition that we consume is just stuff that goes through us? In other words faeces.

Different amounts depending on how well you digest it and what you eat. I know it doesn't all go through me because I can feel certain beneficial effects very soon after eating healthy foods. Such as energy, better mood, sexual drive etc....can be also negative effects too, or neutral ones like sleepiness, sometimes its not welcome but sometimes its great.

I think with breatharians they just conditioned their metabolism to go very slowly, hence why they need minimal amount of food, but they still need it. Anorexics are also breatharians but are not healthy obviously, and don't have a good quality of life, because they didn't condition themselves properly, the few foods they eat are probably not the healthy ones...otherwise, anorexics would be healthy and long lived too, a perfect example that something can be done the wrong way and the right way.

Animals who hibernate don't eat while doing so. I think breatharians have achieved hibernation body state without having to "rest" all the time like hibernating animals.

I personally have a very quick metabolism and would be a horrible candidate for breatharianism.  :D
Maybe eating mey make me die a little faster, lol, but really thats not a concern, I'd rather receive the pleasure of food then live a little longer. Plus I think with breatharians their metabolism becomes so slow that if they happen to eat a lot of food they will gain weight like crazy. I don't like that idea because IN CASE you want to eat lots of food now you can't...they may never want to of course, but its putting yourself in a ultimate condition, which freaks me out a little because I prefer to be able to consume something in the case I want to or have to and not suffer a great deal. However I do have respect for these people to be able to achieve that and have such a great body composition, its quite amazing!

KD - I'll post what music I can when it's finished. Thanx!

Yuli - Web & advertising? We should talk a little biz. Perhaps you could drop me a line when you get a moment?

For sure! I am pretty busy (or mindless) until the 2nd or third of january, lets talk after then.

I would like to post some of my stuff so you guys can check it out.... its just a matter of getting it finished, digitized and posted, same as you.

After then lets skype or email or something as I am excited about any work that will use more of my artistic talents, as most of the money now is coming from just web design...which I love! But I would love to do any project where I can do art created by hand (ie. either traditional or digital paints). I also have my online portfolio website close to finished, so I'll post the link close to the beginning of the new year.  O0

Amazing ...NOTHING beats doing what you want to do for a living!
I speak from similar experience, I don't make music but I do design and I like making visual art.
I am currently spending my free time painting on canvas in acrylics and making digital concept art (paint using digital brushes and drawing pad), for money I design websites and do advertisement, again all visual arts. I can tell you NOTHING feels better then doing what you like to do, eating well makes me feels well, but nothing makes me feel as well as making art, nothing....

Happy new year to you and everyone, and may everyone enjoy what they do in the new years, its not possible to enjoy everything you do, but strive for it, whatever it may be! This should be everyones new years resolution.

Man....seriously.....wow!

I just spent the last 8 hours or so in the studio recording some awesome music (metal meets movie soundtrack sounding stuff - very prog-rock)! Mostly bass guitar, but also 6-string electric guitars. Gonna take me another week to polish it all off.

A few days before that, I spent 6 hours rehearsing & tracking guitars for a cool dance track.

Next week I kick off the year teaching an incredible bunch of students, and debut an 8 week "History of Rock Guitar" class.

Somebody pinch me - I must be dreaming.

This sort of thing may be boring to everyone else, but to me its just stellar. Every day I wake up saying "Wow - this day is gonna rock! I can't believe I get to do this for a living!".

As we approach the new year, I raise my glass to each of you and say: Here's hoping YOUR every day is just as exciting to YOU as mine is to me. CHEERS!!!!

@P.Phill

You know what, just because you fart does not correlate that your shits will smell or the farts will smell.  :o

An example is if I eat a huge veggie meal close before bedtime, when I get up I will have a few huge farts, the really loud and hilarious ones!!! But there is absolutely NO smell they smell like air, like nothing....what a funny way to start your day.
But some of the smaller less loud farts are lethal, like the ones I had from having the cheese sandwich, yikes.

I also enjoy sneezing too sometimes. When I sneeze its a loud screaming one, the one that scared people, yes I do it because its fun and it feels good. Something about the release of foreign air and particles I guess. But yeah if it smells it is kind of embarrassing.

....So only consistent smell would be concerning to me, unless I shared a small apartment with all girls or something.

I have a girlfriend who has NO sense of smell, really, she cannot smell anything hardly, from birth. This is one reason why she makes a good friend, and I think lots of guys like her for that reason too. I have a hyper sense of smell unfortunately, to the point that I can small my mom boiling WATER downstairs, freaky.

oh, you mean potatoes?  8)

Heh heh, these guys....

The skin looks rough and dirty so they remind me of potatoes.

Remember when the apple is small-medium, hard enough so that you can almost kill someone with it, and the skin looks dirty no matter how much you wash it, it will be a GOOD apple  ;D

Come to think of it, if I had to choose only 3 plants foods to eat for the rest of my life, it will probably be Russet apples, potatoes, and cabbage! Just those 3 can provide all the planty goodness I need besides eating all the animal stuff.

Grapefruits were the worst and the best fruits I ever had, it really matters which one.
Most pink grapefruits taste like shit, some are bitter or too sour or no taste at all...some are just OK....

However try and find some good, organic, WHITE grapefruits, fuckin divine fruit!

EDIT: oh and my fave fruit of all time.....RUSSET apples, omg, the little hard ones that look like dirty potatoes, sweet, sour, hard, juicy, tarty everything you want in a fruit.

Ha ha the Fart spirit, awesome!
I notices I fart:
- The least from BOTH cooked and raw meats & fats when eaten alone.
- The most from vegetables, raw or cooked!
- Mildly from whole grains or cooked starches.
- The MOST deathly farts from having bread and cheese...I tried a tiny sandwich yesterday with sourdough bread and cheese to see how I'd fare with it, well I fad "Fartosis" to say the least.....
I think it has more to do with plant foods make you fart more then meat foods.
And yes, the shit smells worse the more plants I eat  -\

But whats wrong with farting, a little farting is fun, lol....when I was zero carb (mostly cooked) a long time ago, I remember I NEVER farted....and it started to bug me, I actually missed farting, I at least wanted to fart every once in a while ha ha ha, but yeah too much is no fun...

Well, I recall one theory suggesting that Caucasians are ultimately descended from Asians in Siberia(Orientals, to be specific). That makes sense, in a way, as there are many Orientals of Northern heritage who have such pale skin it is basically white.

Yes, we have some Russian friends that look very Asian...my parents friends are both very caucasian-european looking but their son I could swear is Chinese, really, he looks Chinese. If I examine my facial structure closely I can see many Asian features, and the yellowish pale skin which I have is a definite common trait. I don't even tan easily, but I don't get burned by the sun either (unless I purposely fry myself in it). I think many caucasians and asians are very close relatives.

« on: December 30, 2010, 01:08:56 am »
The horse meat that I buy is predominatingly very lean.
But sometimese it has got a little bit of fat; like that one.

I don't know much about horse meat as I have never tried it or saw it for sale here. Only from what I know I saying that the grain-fed steaks I buy have similar marbling sometimes (marbling is the term when the fat is woven throughout the muscle meat)...and the grass-fed steaks I buy have no marbling at all. Deer and goat I get has no marbling either. Lamb I get has plenty of fat on the sides and around the bone but non throughout the muscle meat parts.

When it comes to the sheep this theory is bullocks :D
The mutton is SO FATTY at the end of the summer, from animals eating ONLY grass, wild fruits, etc.
So much internal fat.

Yes a lot of fat but its all connected to the meat as a pose to being evenly marbled throughout, thats the main difference I see.

The taste of badly fed animals meat can be great ....
Any vindication? I disagree.
Tyler probably too.

Yep, "badly fed" meaning not starved or anything, but giving animals plenty of grain will cause marbling. They can taste great if you get some of the nice expensive marbled steaks they taste divine. There is a lot of grain-fed meat that can taste like crap yes, but the "good" marbled meat is really good, even if you like the grass-fed stuff you can't say its not tasty, unless you haven't had a truly good marbled cow steak.

Again I have no idea because its possible some meats can marble on grass only!
However I doubt any wild ruminants will develop marbling, ever.

Heres a diagram of marbliness I found:

Today I bought quite fatty chunk of horse meat....

Looking good, but ...dare I say, marbled? Can meat be perfectly marbled and 100% grass-fed?

Today was a day of raw lamb and beer for me.
Thats all I had, some beer early on because we have mini-little vacation going on, and fresh raw lamb tonight, the shank with the marrow bone in the middle and lots of fat around it, a complete package....the "happy meal" of the paleo world, lol....I love the fat that comes with the lamb meat, makes me full.

Just curious,
I am considering jumping into a business. What are you generally talking for a website. Say the range from low to high end.

Depend on what kind of website, what you want the website to do, how do you want to manage the website.
The lowest I do it for is 500$ for a small site ..... there is no upper range  ;D  ....with big, complex sites though I will get help and then have to share in the wealth of course.

Welcoming Committee / Re: day1: raw salmon
« on: December 28, 2010, 12:15:05 pm »

Was the salmon you ate wild or farmed? The farmed one produces more of a fishy taste I find. The wild is more tasty anyways.

.......so i went into the teacher's lounge and ate a piece of bread.  very quickly, my strength returned and after eating a few more pieces over the next couple of hours, i was back to normal and decided to abandon the diet.

however, after being in and out of the hospital several times last week (i thought death was very near) and the doctors unable to find anything wrong, i started thinking more about my diet.  i'm not coming from any special diet, though i've always tried to eat healthy:  oatmeal, brown rice, green-leafy vegetables, chicken, fish, fruit, etc.  i've never really had any health problems.  well, not until recently.  i'm 26.

I am going to turn 28 this year, was like you ate a "healthy" cooked food diet, I never had complications except mild digestive problems (clue that you should fix your diet b4 it gets worse) mild acne (which gets cured by simply not eating any processed foods or grains except a little buckwheat or quinoa maybe 2 times a month or so)...I first went 100% raw which was great except I was loosing too much weight (I am already very lean) and feeling lightheaded and dizzy too. I ended up settling with a happy mix of mostly raw meat and fat, a little cooked meat for family convenience, and moderate raw fruits and raw plants such as roots/radishes. I found that I do best eating mostly raw and if I get dizzy or loose too much weight I don't eat grains but I will have a little baked or lightly seared potatoe or sweet potatoe (its A LOT different then grains and better I find - but lets you add a cooked carb component if you start freaking out going all raw meat  :D )...other then that eating raw meats rock and besides a few adjustments I am a healthier person due to that.

PS....a couple of times as I started heavily into raw meat I had a few stomach pains and other isses...I thought I had hepititis or parasites but it turns out it was nothing and I got over it in a couple of days, so keep that in mind....

PPS...try it its not for everybody but natural fermented foods like kefir made from only pure cream and saurkraut keep my digestion peaceful - they are not my meals but supplements/snacks more or less.

So I bulked up on tons of different probiotics, then stopped taking them
...

Hey thats exactly how I eat them, will gorge on them 3-2 days then stop for a week or so....

I do find its helpful too.

...
I believe we humans as opportunists should have various bacteria, solid guts so we can survive on anything when need be.

It would be a shame if the supply of animal foods dried up and we just died outright of starvation...

I believe we should all eat raw food for maximum health but we should not die or go into sickness when eating some cooked food (at least the healthier ones), because I agree humans should remain to develop their varieried eating abilities, something tells me it is useful for survival heh heh  ;D

Which "Bladerunner"? The original (with narration) or the director's cut (without)? Personally, I love the original - that whole 1950s detective noir thing was totally cool.

I watched both, I like the original. Its a very cool film noir. The ending when the cyborg Roy Batty dies and makes his speech makes me cry  :'(
Its a beautiful movie and has nice artistic qualities. Rutger Hauer is hot in that movie.

Terminator and Alien are classics, I always love the first/earlier ones. I was fascinated with them as a kid and still now. Both the women actresses in terminator and alien are hot too.

Man....I wish there were more movies like that today.

Have you seen Dark City? Its not in the eliteness of Blade Runner but a nice film noir none the less.

... Also, I question the necessity of taking cod liver oil for someone who eats mammal liver and ocean fish. Wouldn't the same benefits be obtained by eating those foods?

Its not at all necessary if you are eating wild fatty fish (like wild salmon) and livers of grass-fed healthy (close to wild or wild) animals. Unfortunately I like the convenience of eating farmed meat thats often supplemented with some grains, I can't always get fresh good liver and don't have time, and there isn't always fresh wild fish at a good price. Also sometimes I just want to eat red muscle meat, I don't want livers or fish. In this case a spoon of cod oil with my hay+grain deer works just as well. Its all about convenience and what you can get, if you can get super quality meats every day then you prolly don't need it. And in the winter, it gives you a vitamin D boost which surely all people can use, or most of them.

I though it was already known that Neanderthals cooked a bit of grains (since you can't eat them raw at all and I don't think they sprouted)...
But still the amount of grains they ate was just what they could gather, they didn't have bowls of rice, pasta and loaves of bread thats for sure.
If you eat about a tablespoon of black rice every other day you will probably not suffer much ill health, but its not necessary...
I think they ate them because they ate whatever they could, it was tough times back then.

Most the adults riding in Toronto do not wear a helmet and are fine, its less common to see someone biking with a helmet then without, just be attentive have lights on your bike, and wear something bright and visible especially in the dark, and you will be ok.
Yes there is always a chance you'll break your head, my dad and I have never worn helmets and bike all our lives, I guess its a family tradition.
Personally the helmet makes me feel uncomfortable and if I am uncomfortable I don't bike as well...I'd rather be more careful and take side-roads and park roads then wear a sweaty nasty helmet on a summer day, its just not enjoyable.
There is also people that died on a bike even with a helmet and there are people that got hit by a car just crossing the street, what are they gonna do next, make us wear helmets to go run outside?
Its one thing if you choose to wear a helmet, if it makes you feel safer then great, but another thing if they MAKE you wear one - grrr, especially on something like a bicycle. If I see a road I don't feel is safe I just don't bike on it or I move to the sidewalk, so yeah, I try to be more careful because I am not wearing protection, and it does actually result in me biking more cautiously, its how I am used to doing it.

If that's directed at me, I'm certainly not holding anyone responsible. I believe in personal responsibility. My intention for starting this thread was to learn and to share. I am not out to give high-meat a bad rap. I hope that was clear from my previous messages.

Go for the high-meat, Yuli, I am very much looking forward to the high-meat VS LSD comparison  ;D

Not at all directed at you, it was directed at how people in society commonly freak out about germs ect. in the health industry, the media etc And perhaps was directed due to Donrad being paranoid, nothing is 100% safe, we can't live in bubbles. And it is in fact known that underexposure to germs makes us very weak. As much as over-exposure to the wrong ones can make us sick, I guess you can have too much of a good thing...

Yes I will try some high meat, I know its going to taste like shit but I am curious to the effects, maybe I'll be surprised and find it to taste a very old cheese, right  l) , I have to at least try it to get a real sense of the whole subject....

Make them scratch 'n sniff for the full effect.

ROFL! I imagined a paleo-modernized future, where you have little jars of different high meats in the supermarket, labeled with dates, bacteria & mold types with effect (fancy names like "Calm", "Invigorate", "Seduction", like you have for the teas now, aha ha ha)...and they have the scrtch and sniff pads on the labels! Oh joy!

Mouldy raspberries, blueberries. Lots of them. .....

And ... does it compare to high meat in effects?

I remember a video that was doing the rounds about a certain type of fruit in Africa that the wild animals would eat when it became over ripe and presumably turned alcoholic or maybe it was a mould. The wild animals would gather around the trees and eat as much as they could stand, get stupid drunk, do it agin and then that was it till next year.

Yes there are some you can find on youtube...one with elephants and giraffes and mongooses in the wild drunk on seasonal rotting fruit.
The other has these monkeys that live beside a small resort and constantly steal peoples drinks and get totally shitfaced, thats a very funny video I gotta find that, they look so human there...

right, I knew I had you all figured out...

Really let me know cause I haven't been able to do that yet, but I try

@raw-al....

I have left meat in glass jars for a week, but thats not long enough and the jars were half closed with tin foil...I felt that I had to let the meat "breathe"  -\  If I try it should I do it with
-- grassfed-finished VERY lean beef - stew chunks size
-- semi-fatty grassfed-finished beef ground
-- hay + grain supllemented bison, elk or deer?
which one of those should I do?....I don't want to make any organs or chickens high yet...eeeek

When I try it I wouldn't want to plug my nose though, I want to look death in the face when I see it. I'll probably have a jar of raw honey and spoon ready for the aftermath  -v

@sabertooth

right its all about taking risks, when we started eating raw meat we accepted a certain risk (way overblown of course)...there is a tiny chance you eat some infected raw meat and oops, your body happens to not be able to fight it very well, and ta da you get sick....this can also happen with any food, you can also get struck by lightning....these are all different levels of risks but are worth taking....I take the risk of walking on the street in the city because I enjoy it, there is a risk I'll get hit by a car...happened to two people I knew and one of them died due to it...but I still walk on the street. Even if one person gets sick, we can't make people who recommend high meats responsible, many people have benefits and don't get sick...its a specific process, if someone fucks it up because they didn't know any better, had bad meat to begin with, has some physical handicap its still not the fault of those people who use high meat for its benefits and are very much alive and healthy. I guess that sounds kind of mean, but there are people that died from eating any meat, do we not recommend eating meat because of this? Well some people do but they are clearly stupid.

General Discussion / Re: low quality meats
« on: December 27, 2010, 07:57:42 am »
If I don't have access to grassfed meats right now, eating raw grainfed beef will be better than any other foods?....

If you compare to eating those steaks cooked eating them raw would be better! You are asking if due to the quality you may be doing something bad, depends, but you are not making them ANY better when you cook these same steaks, if you eating shitty meat it remains shitty and get even more shitty when you cook it. Actually the cooking may mask the shittyness and then you are eating a camouflaged poison, invitation for getting sick. So yeah eat them raw. And you'll learn to recognize which ones are better quickly. Even in the times I decide to cook my meat I taste it raw before hand to know what kind of crap I will be eating ha ha

I eat a mixture of grass-fed, grain-fed and grass-fed grain finished, or grain supplemented meats, mostly raw unless I am sharing the meat meal with family and making it for everyone to eat...I have had supermarket grain-fed meats raw which really did taste bad. But some of the organic or just high quality grain-fed ones I gotta admit taste really good.

I have been eating quite a bit of goat, deer and now ELK (nom nom) raw in the last week or so and I don't think those are 100% grassfed at this time but they usually are raised on both dry grass and grain over the winter. In winter its difficult to get pure grassfed and even the ones that eat hay I bet are supplemented with grains. However the "closer to wild meats" like the deer and elk taste so much better then the average grainfed beef. But the "high-class" grain-fed beef can be heavenly (have no clue what they do to it to make it so yummi). The grassfed beef is nice though because its saltier! It all comes down to taste and of course how you feel over time after eating the particular meat, some raw meats I notice do a lot more for me then the factory meats, so obviously have way more nutrition in them.

If you can't access grassfed beef see if you can find deer, goat, elk, lamb, bison, caribou, moose....the latter two I never tried but heard they are amazing. Can't wait to give moose a try....

Another reason to try and not buy factory meats is if you love animals...I they should have a good life right up until the time they become dinner! And for a farm herbivore a good life (relatively) is out in the pasture or in a shelter barn in the winter but not in metal cages, we farm them and eat them so lets give them some respect to at least enjoy their life as a pasture animal ><
