Health / Fecal Microbiota Transplant - need stool donor
« on: January 18, 2017, 10:42:53 am »
Hi guys, I'm trying to find someone healthy enough to be a stool donor. The qualifications are really strict and so far no one healthy enough has been willing to be a donor.

From what I can tell, most people on this forum seem to be dealing with their own medical problems so there might not be many valid donors here. But if anyone knows someone super healthy that would work. If there are some specific people on this forum who are super healthy can you name them so I can PM them in case they don't see this thread?

Here's a bunch of info on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Microbiome/wiki/index#wiki_fecal_microbiota_transplants_.28fmt.29.3A

Does anyone know anything about visiting tribes? I'm thinking about trying to visit the Maasai or something... What are some other tribes known for great health? If it were possible, young Jamaican track & field athletes would be amazing donors, but I imagine they might have similar reactions as the US athletes that I've tried to solicit.

Background
Parasitic helminths are potent immunomodulators and chronic infections may protect against allergy-related disease and atopy. We conducted a cross-sectional survey to test the hypothesis that in heavily helminth-exposed fishing villages on Lake Victoria, Uganda, helminth infections would be inversely associated with allergy-related conditions.

Conclusions
Contrary to our hypothesis, we found little evidence of an inverse relationship between helminths and allergy-related outcomes, but strong evidence that individuals with certain helminths were more prone to atopy in this setting.

Info / News Items / Announcements / Probiotics; fecal transplants.

I've been getting some huge improvements from specific probiotics. This along with seeing other studies on fecal transplants and probiotics leads me to conclude that most of the benefits people see from raw diets are probably due to bacteria.

Here's a few for example:

Wide benefit from fecal transplants: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4284325/

Rodents raised in a sterile environment and lacking in gut flora need to eat 30% more calories just to remain the same weight as their normal counterparts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gut_flora

Health / Tapeworm & other food poisoning.
« on: May 22, 2013, 03:49:39 am »
So I've been on raw paleo for over 3 years and maybe 1-2 years I was on raw ketosis. I never really had any problems and was doing good and gaining weight (from 175 to 195) until sometime last year I started losing weight and getting diarrhea from lots of different stuff, including wild caught bass, organic free range chicken, organic pastured lamb fat, clam that had an off smell & a dead crustacean in it, wild caught alaskan salmon, some beef heart mixed with coconut oil that I left in the oven(off) overnight with the oven pilot lights on(so fairly warm), and a couple days ago I got it from grass-fed beef tongue.

At the end of January I passed 1 flat white worm 1 to 2 inches long and less than 2mm thick and less than 1/2inch wide that was alive and moving, then the next day I passed a much larger white worm that was at least 24 inches long and I'm not sure if it was alive or not. I tried to look for pictures and videos of worms, especially tapeworms, but I couldn't find that much on google & youtube. But my guess is tapeworm since the massive length of the 2nd worm only fits the description of a tapeworm from what I know.

I have been taking Diatomaceous Earth on and off for a year or two and I think I started taking it again shortly before I passed the worms. So this may have been what caused the worms to exit. However, I have continued to lose weight. I'm currently down to 165lbs from 195. I have taken 3 different stool tests and they all came back negative for any parasites (they test for eggs only), and apparently this is the only test available to check for worms/parasites in the intestines.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this subject? I'm currently frying my meat on low heat in deep coconut oil to try to avoid as much of the negative effects of cooking as I can.

I looked it up on google and the only suggestion of something other than prescription medication was ground pumpkin seeds. So I tried that and they made me feel really sick and nauseous and I was repulsed to eating more of it but I forced it down for a few days but nothing really happened. I even took them with some castor oil as was suggested. It gave me diarrhea but no visible worms were passed.

anyone seen this? http://www.secondchanceranch.org/rawmyth.htm

the stuff about parasites being a major threat to wild carnivores, also saying it doesn't matter that enzymes are destroyed when cooking - which goes against the pottenger studies

I've read a lot of places that say that cooking meat makes it more digestible but when I eat raw meat my stomach doesn't even feel full... I just feel like I've had enough to eat yet I could still run miles and not upset my stomach.

Off Topic / cultured vegetables

after reading the book The Body Ecology Diet, I made some cultured vegetables. It seemed to be fine at first but now when I eat them my hands dry up quite a lot. Even certain fruits have the same drying effect on my hands now like oranges(picked fresh off my tree).

In the youtube video she says when you ferment them you increase the bio availability hundreds of times, which is what juicing does as well right? So for me it was a cheaper alternative to buying a $300+ juicer(which is what you need for vegetables), as well as another source of probiotics.

Has anyone else heard of/tried cultured vegetables?

General Discussion / vegetarian vs carnivore - growth size
« on: March 12, 2011, 12:35:10 pm »
I noticed something interesting... there are lots of gnats?(I think they are but all my image searches for 'gnat' show up w/mosquito looking fuckers) where I live and any food that's left out they get into(they even get into my fridge and then die in there...). Well when I was fermenting my sweet potatoes they got in and laid their offspring(little white worms). Well they did it again in some fairly high meat I was trying to dry out on my counter and I noticed that the worms that grew on the meat were twice as big as those that grew in the sweet potato stuff.

It's interesting because of the whole vegetarian vs meat eater, growth size thing that people talk about with humans. Seems to be the same with these insects... interesting though that the largest land animals - elephants and giraffes are vegetarian. I guess it has to do with their digestive systems... meh, pointless topic? x_x

They say our brains have shrunk 10% since adopting an agriculture based diet thousands of years ago. Well does anyone know about Inuit/Eskimo brain size since they have been still eating mainly raw carnivore for much longer then anyone else?

General Discussion / bison vs beef - omega 3 ratio
« on: February 14, 2011, 02:58:27 pm »
As far as I can tell 100% grass-fed http://www.google.com/search?q=omega+3+to+6+ratio+bison&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a bison seems to have a 4:1 omega6:3 ratio while beef has 2:1 & lamb has 2:1 or better. I find this surprising since pretty much everywhere you go people say 1:1 or 2:1 is what man evolved on as paleo and bison would be the most paleo out of all those three animals no?

Would you still eat bison rather then beef?

General Discussion / warming fat before eating
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:10:51 am »
Does anyone warm their fat(beef) to soften it and bring out more taste before you eat it? If so, how do you warm it? I've been putting it in a sealed glass jar in my car with the windows up, but sometimes it melts/separates and Aajonus says not to heat fat over 104f & I have no idea how hot it's getting. I thought about getting a toaster oven since they have low temps but the minimum listed temperature I've seen is 150f, then below that it's just a guessing game. I could probably get a digital one that hopefully would have an accurate reading at around 100 degrees but they cost a lot more, about $100.

Does anyone know about how the Inuit used to store their food? Seems like they would have been eating a lot of frozen meat/fat.

For me, leaving meat out on the counter is good enough but for fat the texture doesn't seem to change at all. When I warm up the fat, the softer it gets, the better it tastes and I want & am able to eat much more. Also when I just eat it straight out of the fridge/room temp an unknown amount of it comes out the other end whole in little white pea sized lumps.

General Discussion / lamb vs beef

I know our modern cows have been specifically bread to be the way they are now, have we done the same thing to sheep or would sheep be more paleo then beef? What about pigs? Is there any diet(fed to the pigs) that would make pork healthy to eat?

Wild game isn't allowed to be sold here in Arizona :/

Anyone know a guy like Monk Jack from the other thread http://www.rawpaleoforum.com/health/doctors-in-nyc/ that would be closer to AZ? I'm sure there must be... but I have no clue how to find someone like that... I'm looking for someone that would be able to diagnose me.

So I was looking for how you do it and I came across this http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf034885k
apparently it can be pretty dangerous to eat? Has anyone else done this before? I have some soaking in water at room temp for a couple weeks now but I don't see anything happening to them besides the ones sticking out of the water are browning.

Health / chronic problems, need help/advice...
« on: November 30, 2010, 05:14:09 am »
I'm 24 year old male having problems since I was 14 or younger. It started out with stomach problems, then trouble breathing, then just kept getting worse and worse and more and more things...
For the past 7+ years or so I've been chronically fatigued, extremely underweight and unable to gain weight, muscle weakness, back problems, vision, sleep, circulation, breathing, overall brain function, etc. I've been seeing conventional doctors for years and none of them know what's wrong. I've even been seeing specialists at the Mayo Clinic and they don't seem to know what's wrong either...

The only clue I have is a couple years ago I only ate plain rice and meat for a day or so and I started feeling a ton better... so I've been experimenting with adding/eliminating foods from my diet ever since, but I haven't been able to figure out anything specific or get feeling good consistently... even with eating raw, grassfed organs and fat and raw organic free-range eggs for the past 3 months or so the only thing it's really improved is sometimes I have no stomach issues and sometimes I sleep much better then usual. But even that is still random...
When I eat something "bad" it feels like my whole body is shutting down... brown rice is no good, white rice is fine. Regular grapes give me energy and strength but the large thick black ones do the opposite... apples are no good, but when I sliced and dried them they seemed fine. For a while sweet potatoes were giving strength and energy, and raw eggs were not; then I put some heart to get "high" at room temp and it switched, and sweet potatoes made me fatigued and weak and the eggs did not...(I have been eating high meat done in the fridge for over 2months without any changes) even probiotics effect me like this... they give me bad gas and make me fatigued and weak. Cultured yogurt however, seems to regulate bowel movements like probiotics are supposed to, and I don't get any negative effects from yogurt.
I tried only raw meat, fat, eggs for a month and was feeling terrible.

I saw an alternative medicine doctor recently and after he did some basic blood tests and a stool test he said the only thing that he can do is treat me for lyme disease(which the test came back INDETERMINATE). But it's mainly treated with long term antibiotics which I'm very weary of and which also goes against everything I've been reading about raw food and all of Aajonus's bacteria theories.
I went to http://www.chroniclymedisease.com/ and they mention all these different treatments, but I can't find where I can visit or contact any of the doctors who do them...
Not to mention I'm getting no help from my parents or anyone else and all I have is $670 a month from disability($500 goes to rent+utilities). So I don't know how I could even afford all these alternative therapies that medicare wouldn't cover...

I learned about a healer in NY who diagnoses people by just looking at them, but I called them and they said they're extremely booked so I don't know if I'll even be able to see him...

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / some questions about rzc/keto
« on: October 08, 2010, 04:28:28 am »
I'm trying to switch to RZC/raw keto diet. I thought this was just a meat/fat diet, but I see people saying they're limiting even their liver intake??

Right now I'm eating just chicken, eggs, heart, liver, and beef fat. Probably going to get other organs like tongue and spleen soon. I was going to ask if I ate coconut butter or even whole coconut, avocados, and maybe some greens like spinach, if this would still be a ketogenic or RZC diet.

I started the switch to keto at the beginning of the month and I know it takes about a month to complete. I'm feeling really fatigued/exhausted now at the 7 day mark, and my heart also feels like it's constantly racing - like struggling/having a hard time - and I was considering eating some cooked sweet potato for a carb boost. Is it better to just wait it out without carb loading? I just want to get the switch over as soon as possible so I can see how my body functions on a raw keto diet. Thanks.

General Discussion / tough/hard fat
« on: September 03, 2010, 04:57:56 am »
I picked up a big bag of beef fat from my butcher, and I took a piece out and left it in the fridge overnight, but in the morning it still felt just as hard. The whole thing looks like a big ass piece of bacon. It has some soft fat on it that's easy to eat, but the other stuff is really tough and hard. I managed to rip off a piece and chewed on it for an hour and it got softer and white(instead of dark red) but I still only managed to eat tiny bits of it. Is there a way to make this stuff soft? Or is it not edible?

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/lyme_idsavideo2.html

Anyone heard about this? I've been disabled for 7 years or so without a diagnosis and I'm going to an alternative medicine doctor that's just told me that lime disease is a possible cause and it's a bacterium that is transferred mainly by ticks that can change forms in your body and cause a really wide variety of symptoms/diseases. The treatment for it is mainly antibiotics which goes against the whole raw, bacteria-is-good-for-you thing...
