cold feet after eating
« on: February 01, 2011, 06:15:56 pm »
Hi all,
Wasn't sure if that was the right category, as its not really a health problem-so move it if it suits in some other forum better: For the last couple months I have been eating 1 meal at night, often 1 or 2 hours before going to bed. Today I had a huge meal about 3 hours, after my morning run b/c I wanted to try to shift my meal or have something to eat during the day and got cold feet from it. They are still cold. It feels really strange. Anyone has any idea what this could be?
Thanks Nicole

What have you eaten?

I get cold hands and feet if I eat too much fruit, for example.

The circulation around your body has decreased, so that it can be focused on your digestive system. If you've not had time to recover from your run your body will not have much energy to go around, and now that it's got food and rest it'll focus it all on your digestive system until it enough nutrients get into your blood. If your feet are still cold after that you probably need to sleep.

The opposite happens when you become anxious. The feeling of 'butterflies in the stomach' is when your body is diverting blood flow away from your digestive system, to be focused elsewhere.

Anything putting extra strain on your digestive system like not chewing fat properly could also cause decreased circulation.

Are you sure it has this much to do with eating?

I personally have had frequent cold hands and feet for years, regardless of what I eat. However, sometimes it has gotten better from eating enough good fats and of course keeping the body moving..

That's strange. I usually have the opposite effect. I know when I am hungry when my body starts to get cold. Sounds like you need more fat?

Thanks guys-Miles explanation makes most sense to me.
Caveman: I am sure it was the eating,
Löwenherz et al.: not to lean (as it was >80% fat/that's my "usual" mix I prepare).
When I eat at night I get warm. Maybe because my body has now enough energy again for digesting food?

I feel rather cold when I'm eating zero-carb. Not immediately, but after couple of days.

I am the opposite(I get cold from carbs), but then I have some yeast problem or something.

Are you ZC?  If so, how long a time has it been?

High fat help me maintain body temp all over.   Carbs, grains, oil etc make my body feel cold and sometimes inflamed at the same time.

Before RAFs my feet  used to get incredibly cold feeling regularly unless I was in very hot climcate.  Also during alt therapy sessions I had to have heat lamps aimed close to my feet the whole time. It was bad.

Are you ZC?  If so, how long a time has it been?

I was ZC for 6 months at beginning of raw paleo(after eating cooked paleo for 1-2 years) and did great on that, but then since I never tried raw paleo non ZC I went 5 months eating like that and did badly, basically since my health dropped right away from the first fruit I ate, I decided to take it as a chance to experiment and just kept going. I've been back eating what I was calling 'animals only' for 1-2 months now and feeling good again, better every day. Just a few nights ago though I had about 120g carbs from cow's liver and I'm still recovering from the sugar in that, so basically I'm going to be ZC now. Any carbs I eat I think I have some yeast or something that goes crazy on it, and then when that sugar runs out it continues to eat and lowers my blood-sugar which I think is what causes the coldness.

How is that possible? 100 g of liver contains about 4 g of carbs.

This liver was very sweet, and I've seen packaged Ox liver that was 10g carbs/100g.
