Humans rely on on their environment to stay alive too. It doesn't mean they won't cripple and exploit it.

If there is so much good in faeces, why would it be faeces?

Why would we need bacteria to digest meat? We have stomach acid which is meant to kill bacteria and if they survive in to the intestines that's not a good thing. We have acids, enzymes and emulsifiers (etc..) to digest the meat/fat. Bacteria living in the large intestine live off what we were unable to digest, of which there should be little.

It's not a blind fear. If something can continue to survive and reproduce, it'll continue to exist. It doesn't care as such how it does it. One organism could live off of another's undigested food peacefully for a life time, passing out eggs or copies in its' hosts' faeces and perhaps be beneficial, causing a little bit of gas but by chance also stopping the person's system from getting clogged up. If the parasitic organism(eu or prokaryotik) wasn't there, perhaps the host organism would've either died out or needed to evolve some other system for preventing blockage.

Another parasite could find a way of sending its' eggs in to the blood-stream to wait in cysts, then to hatch-out and use the surrounding host-cells for food. It doesn't matter if it kills its' host because something else will eat the host and the cycle can begin again. It could even(through selection) lie dormant for a period by which its' preferred host-species would usually have produced off-spring, if it struggles to survive in other hosts.  Either that, or you could get parasites which can live symbiotically with one host, but be greatly detrimental to another.

Could it be be from fat entering the large intestine or something which it's not meant to? I think all fat is meant to be absorbed in the small intestine and any that isn't can lead to inflammatory problems and bloating in the 'large'n'? Also, if your immune system was weak/you didn't have enough stomach acid and you ate some meat with lots of bacteria, or minced meat where the bacteria is protected long enough for the acid to be weakened by the food, could the problem be from a bacterial assault? If certain bacteria survive the stomach and make it to the intestines they can cause some damage to the attached organs anyway.

Or, how long ago did you last eat any grain/legumes? They can have keep affecting you for a few days.

General Discussion / Why does Beef taste so much better than Lamb?
« on: February 19, 2010, 02:05:57 am »
I've heard from quite a few people that the dislike the taste of (raw)lamb... Is it just a conditioning, or is there any reason why (raw)beef may actually be better?

Beef(100% fresh pasture fed), Beef(Supermarket 'Welsh'), Beef(Supermarket), Lamb(Supermarket 'Welsh'), Lamb(Supermarket 'British')

Raw, plain/unseasoned.

But the parasite has made reactions between the chemicals in the food, which give it energy, but render it useless to the fish. The fish then gets the waste-products. For the faeces of the parasite to become useful again, they would have to be acted upon by bacteria/fungi, then taken up by plant-life which will not be present within the fish.

This wouldn't be the issue however in this case, but it could be relevant to large gut-parasites such as tape-worms in humans.

If you eat one meal a day: A while(several hours, maybe 3/4) after that meal do you find yourself needing to drink a lot and excreting a lot of fluids? Do you know what this is?

The above also coincides with a drop in energy/heat etc for me... I don't know if it's just removing one or the other/both between ketones/amino acids though. Anyway. How does your body get energy and protein outside of this post-meal period? I've heard a little about collagen being used as the protein equivalent of adipose, but I've been able to find little on the subject and I don't know how readily/efficiently this process would be used if at all. As for energy, does the body readily and efficiently use triglycerides from adipose tissue? Someone, I think quoting from 'the bear', said that dietary fat will not be stored, and will just be used from when you eat it. If so, eating only one meal a day I don't see how one would have energy outside of the post-meal period(up to 6hrs?). Unless he was just saying that it won't accumulate excessively and rather will only be stored after depletion?

Recovery. Again, with regards to the use of adipose/possibly collagen, I don't know if this would be an efficient process and whether it could only occur during sleep/rest or something. This person quoting from 'the bear' said that muscle-glycogen is not used on zero-carb. If so, when a feeling of being physically drained is in effect, I don't understand how the body actually recovers, aside from simply repairing the muscle which would not be the issue here. Is it possible that after a while on zero-carb the muscles learn to store energy in some other equally good form as muscle-glycogen, or maybe even convert fat efficiently in to glycogen? Or does the body simply become efficient at breaking down/re-storing triglycerides in adipose, maintaining the appropriate ketone(and whatever else?) level in the blood and remove the need for muscle-glycogen? This same person said that as long as one consumed enough fat one wouldn't need to convert amino acids in to glucose. Just bringing that up as I wondered if this is what the body may have to resort to in the absence of carbs(amino acid -> glucose). This same person said that they rarely ate liver due to the carbs, but they ate '18-24 eggs'(I think only the yolks though) per day. The source I found said 0.6g carbs per yolk, but of course size can vary.

This person(yes I mention him a lot in this topic, just a guy poting on Sherdog called Solkanar who claimed to eat only rare beef & eggs[don't know if cooked/raw but I think just yolks] for 4years) however, seemed to be trying to be trying to convince people that you would be healthy eating this way even living a sedentary life. Saying he only worked out twice a week for 30mins at a time, sat on his backside the rest of the time, dietary fat can't be stored etc.. Considering this was an MMA forum it seems rather an odd angle to go for. He did however say that he'd previously been active in the military within the first few years of being on this diet and that he completed vigorous hikes but I don't know what this says.

Responses appreciated.

Why do lots of people cut up their meat into small pieces before they eat it? I've just been tearing it off with my teeth.

Man, I think next time I order grass-fed beef pack I'll make sure they realise just how much fat I want. They sent me two organs, but I can't figure out what they are, along with two bags of bones, the marrow is delicious but there are some stringy things which I don't know what they are so I've just left them so far. They didn't send me any 'just fat'. The meat I ordered was quite a few briskets about 6/7/8kg I think, 1.5kg braising and 0.5kg mince. The braising is too lean so I won't order that again unless I'm sure they'll send me lots of fat. The mince was very very nice, and the brisket is delicious. I think I'll just order loads of brisket and a few packs of the mince next time.

I don't know about the Candida. Thing is, if I search candida on google images it shows extreme instances. However, my tongue is not pure red and does have a certain whiteness to it in parts. If candida is caused by carbs, and almost everyone eats carbs, then low levels of candida wouldn't be recognised as anything unusual. Can you do more to help me deduce if that's what I have on my tongue? I guess it might be possible for me to show a photo, or maybe you could show me a photo of what a tongue without candida looks like?

Does anyone else get a horrible bitterness in their mouth when they go without carbs? I don't remember how long it took last time, but this time I have it after 1day with no carbs. It's also come with decreased energy for activity, but a lot of warmth. Last night I felt very good after having a grass-fed beef brisket, I felt the best I had in a while and although had a small desire for fruit/sugar, I didn't have a desire for energy as I'd had plenty of good fat(saturated & unsaturated, off-white and yellow) and so went without fruit(have only been eating one meal day).

Does the body need a certain amount of carbs/sugar in order to use ketones? Is that what the taste is in my mouth, my body expelling ketones because I don't have enough sugar to use them? [Or is it something living in my body which lives off of carbs and it's releasing toxins to get me to eat carbs and keep it alive? However that idea wouldn't account for the energy issues... and was a long-shot and I really doubt this but wanted to put it anyway since I briefly considered it before pretty much dismissing it]. Will the adaptation to no carbs just be that my body will start using amino acids to make sugar? That doesn't sound good.

Apologies. I've not been witness to most of the stuff you speak of, I was just worried there may be some sort of censorship of controversy going on. Seems my worries were unfounded. I don't know Super Infinity. Also I did make those posts late at night, right before going to sleep.

SuperInfinity, you're trolling again, I see. First off, any criticism of raw diets whether to do with parasites or pro-cooking should be restricted solely to the hot topics forum. Bear in mind that this is a forum designed to benefit (and SUPPORT) those doing(or planning to do) a raw diet, it's not about denigrating them and criticising them for choosing not to follow stupid SAD-diet related choices re cooking or whatever.

Superinfinity is not criticising anyone for following a raw diet. He is trying to help in the way that he feels is right. Part of the support for an intelligent person, is seeing the criticisms, and seeing them being crushed by sensible reasoning. Seeing the different sides, and making your own decisions.

This is the 'Raw Paleo Forum', so discussions should be about 'raw paleo', positive and/or negative. You should just make sure that you can always neutralise the negative, but through words, not force.

Freedom of speech allows people to make educated decisions which they can be confident in.

You should not ban anyone unless they are just spamming... That is dictatorship, anyone should be free to say what they want and people should be able to make their minds up for themselves. Rather than banning someone, you should counter their words. Banning people who question you will only reduce your integrity... tsk tsk.

The two people I've noticed being banned have said things which are controversial within this forum, but they've not been spamming. They've spoken genuinely, whether right or wrong, they've just said what they think. If you want people of 'different thought' to listen to you, you have to listen to people of 'different thought'.

Alphagruis, wasn't rabbit-starvation a modern thing? From those labourers who were fed only rabbit? They didn't choose what to eat, they were workers and this was the food they were given.

Hot Topics / Dietary Fiber & Volume of Digestive Tract.
« on: February 13, 2010, 10:57:56 pm »
From eating ~only raw animal foods, with ~no fiber in your diet, would the digestive tract decrease in capacity?

I'm just going to list some random points as I couldn't think of any way to structure them(some are agreeing and some conflicting):

Carnivores have a shorter digestive tract, some people say this is because meat goes off faster than vegetables, some people say this is because they don't need to eat so much because animals are more nutrient-dense; many carnivorous reptiles will eat one massive animal and sit digesting it for many weeks; if I eat a few bananas, I feel their effect shortly afterwards 'at the other end'; food-products containing no 'official' fiber can have a laxative effect on people(honey for one); I don't know if the effect from bananas is due to the fiber 'pushing stuff down' because it's taking up space, or due to the digestive tract trying to get rid of the fiber; if there is not much waste left in the digestive tract from eating animal food, it may be hard for a wide digestive tract to squeeze out the waste, which could then go rancid inside the tract(possibly causing discomfort?).

I was just thinking last night about how some people said that tapeworms can act as 'symbionts', helping with the digestion of food... But if everything you're eating is digestible by you, all they'll be doing is converting edible food in to waste, taking the energy from it... They wouldn't help with anything in the slightest.

Hey Phil. I don't leave it out overnight, I just leave it out on the table for a bit before I eat it, wave it around a bit, blow on it and turn it over =D And yea, any unpleasant taste/odour is gone so it's not something that should be there. i.e. if you either freshly killing an animal, or you just covered it with a breathable skin/hide or whatever it wouldn't have that... It builds up because there's no air-flow. Waste products from bacteria digesting the meat I suppose.

If I leave it out overnight, I have to cover it, and then I'm just leaving it again, sitting on one side... Unless you can hang it by a hook I don't see how leaving it out would do much good? It'll just get more decomposed.

Could we please have some more terms than suet? It is hard to know what people are talking about... Suet is the fat around the kidneys, but people use it to talk about other stuff. Could we please find, or come up with some more terms. i.e. a general one for all the fat which is like suet, and ones to describe the suet-like fat from specific places..?
