I hear what your saying.  Ya know, Im just always thinking about the various pieces of human history and evolution and wondering about nutrition.....    and to be truly healthy as possible you would have to have access to different foods from different parts of your evolutionary history.  Which is impossible since obviously you can only be in one place at one time  :P...     I am always constantly questioning if im doing the right thing when im eating the various fruits and vegetables I do.... We grow and mass produce the fruits and vegetables we do because....? They are parts of our history and the ones that are best for us?  or are we missing various plants and fruits...  Im basically a European mutt living in the US trying to use his instincts.... CONFUSING!  I some times wonder how wild african fruit and plants from the rainforest could benefit me.   or random plants ive never heard of from the Mediterranean, etc ..

i guess my questions just still stem from evolution and what not

Has anybody instincively ate for long periods of time and tried different plants and fruits from around the world..   Mostly I am wondering if humans have selected the right foods to grow and consume.   We consume all these fruits but what about things such as wild greens and small fruits and what not from the rainforest?  We have no access to those.. Would the human palatte even enjoy them or have we evolved and changed so much that the foods we need are the ones we already grow and consume? How can we be sure to include the right foods on our journey?   How did we come to crave and need the foods we do and are we on the right track....?  I wanna make sure I am choosing the right things to include in my diet so my instincts can literally take over!

Just In general.  I am using the instincto approach to my diet.   Starting thinking about various periods of human evolution ,diet, what made us human, and an individual instincto approach.  Why do we grow the foods we do?  Why kale?  why not some leaves from a tree in the rainforest? Why dont i just eat literally like a chimp does.. What made us human and why do we choose to grow the foods we do???? Did eating all these various new fruits and melons and veggies from new places make us human?

Have we as humans over the span of life selected the healthiest fruits and vegetables to grow?   Not talking GMO
but there is a reason we eat thing like lemons, cucumbers, celery, ,melon , etc. instead of leaves and figs, and roots.

I am trying to literally turn my diet into an experiment using instinctive eating.  Determining how my body reacts and what foods it needs...  I havent been posting alot lately and I have been instincively for months now.   I eat fruit, veggies, hemp seed, rare coconut oil, occasional raw meat and drink water and kombucha only.  I use my instincts and I am just wondering if I could be adding different foods.

evolution has made each person benefit from certain foods from different times periods of ancestry. so we all need various foods from different parts.  Im trying to determine what foods we still benefit from ..from the old world

Why do eat foods like melons, berries, coconuts, kale, cucumbers, broccoli, apples, etc…
Why don’t we eat foods that are in the rainforest like are closest relatives do? (chimps, bonobos)
Would we know longer find the leaves, figs, stems, roots, twigs, and various medicinal plants they eat appetizing?  Explain how evolution has affected our diet, why we eat what we do and if we should be eating other plants  from periods of our evolutionary history.

I wonder why we selected certain foods to grow and cultivate over other foods.  Why kale?   Why spinach?  Why Basil?  Why Cilantro? Why watermelon,  Etc…    Why not random plants from the rainforest ... Are we cultivating the right foods?

Jeune you seem to have missed the whole point I try to make again and again. It is a broader view.

Fruits (carbs) are very bad eaten out of context, and I suggest even cultivated fruits are bad for most of us (the broken ones) eaten in season too

No animal in the wild ever eats imported fruits from the other end of the world, sorry
If they eat the fruit that grow in their natural habitat, it of course will not harm them.

Did I make my point clear enough...?

then what is humans natural habitat!?

Question.. DId humans most likely ever have an "optimal habitat" for a long period of time?  Or did they always have to deal with constant climate change?

anyways

not one single human being on earth can survive a cold winter with no clothing , or human shelter.   Now if we didnt start wearing clothes would we have grown a ton of hair or have kept more hair to survive bitter temperatures?  Maybe.. but the majority of us are pretty  hairless.... So we havent really "adapted" to cold weather.. IMO we are meant to live somewhere where we can maintain a pretty constant body temperature between 60-85 degrees.  I know we can live anywhere by "adapting" but.. what makes it optimal?  Im talking about longevity and being healthy all the time....

If you lived in Alaska of course your going to be eating what grows there... If you live in South America you eat what grows there... but is there a difference in health?  Or maybe humans are meant to explore and travel the world and eat anything.. Idk just some foggy questions and statements I had.

I am very sure humans are capable of adapting to cold - everyone is! And this is a super easy N=1 to do. The colder you have it the more you will get used to it, the warmer you have it around you the colder you will be when facing cold. Easy  :)

Yes of course but I guess I am wondering if adapting and living in cold climates is beneficial or good for a person... or it is healthier to just be living in a place where you constantly have a warmer temperature.

So what is it about the blue zones then?   Areas in the world where people live the longest and healthiest..
What do they all have in common?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Zone

    Okinawa, Japan
    Sardinia, Italy
    Loma Linda, California
    Nicoya, Costa Rica
    Ikaria, Greece

They are all coastal towns.   With spectacular ocean and land views.

Iguana and who ever else.  I still have this question from an evolutionary stand point about eating.

How have we come to need these foods from all over the world if we all have different ancestors who may have not been to those part of the world?  How does a person of African or Asian Ancestry benefit from eating North American or European foods (healthy food) and vice versa. I though foods that we need were just adaptations from our surroundings

Yes Yes, I was just talking about the Great Rift Valley with a past science teacher today!

Since we all started in Africa would that still possibly be our natural habitat?  Or have climate chancge and what not made it no longer suited for thriving?

Ive been wondering about where humans should be living. Where is our actual natural habitat?
I know all about Blue Zones and the longevity that humans have who live there....but

Where should we be living?
For years I have been pondering about Homo Sapiens natural habitat. This includes all aspects from lifestyle to nutrition to sun exposure, etc....

It started when i was getting into instinctive nutrition. I was eating a lemon thinking... Why does my body love citrus so much? Did my ancestors love citrus! Where did they live? Did they live in some type of bountiful utopia? Where they nomadic travelers?

So, after a few few more weeks of studying diet, nutrition and human instincts I started heavily researching evolution again.. in attempt to shed some light on some questions Ive always had about where we are meant to live. One theory that will always make the most since to me is the most popular "Out of Africa" theory. Simply stated some of our ape like ancestors stumbled out of the African Rainforest (for what ever reason) and onto the African savanna. Here they adapted and explored new ways of living and surviving. So a big part of our evolutionary history happened in the African Savanna! So is the African Savanna where we should be living? Is this where all the food we should be eating is?

Arent all the other primates in optimal habitats for there specific needs?

Or does each specific nationality or "type" of person have a location that fits them best?
I am tall and skinny and have the body type built for the African Savanna or somewhere hot...
but I am Caucasian and would my skin not be best suited for a northern climate?

So once again
Where is our natural/optimal habitat
Where should we be living?
Would we thrive best in Africa?

All I know is that we were meant to live somewhere warm... Somewhere with a constant tempearture around 70 degrees or so

After eating this way for a long time will you be able to predict what foods you will want?  Or do you always buy a big variety and test?  I have trouble deciding what to buy

And How do you guys all feel after a long time on the Instincto Diet?

General Discussion / Adaptations to certain foods? Good or Bad?
« on: February 20, 2014, 07:51:21 am »
It is said that 95-100 percent of Native and Asian Americans are Lactose intolerant.  While only 2-15 percent of European Americans are.  This is most likely due to the years and years of evolution and adaptations.

Now.. Are these adaptations good?   Are we becoming super humans?  So my thought process right now is......

Are these adaptations good or bad for Humans?  Are they making us more intelligent?

Id like to bring up this thread again..

Does it not make sense that we are supposed to be eating foods that grow around us?  Thats what the earth had provided for animals to survive in those conditions?  (if we lived outside)

but by using heated shelter we kind of  are trying to re create our natural environment ..... so we still do need some of these non local foods

Unfortunately im not close to any springs.  Ive been drinking Aqua Panna because it comes in a glass bottle.  but i really dont have a good source of drinking water...  Im limited to bottled at this point...

Do I need to be washing my produce if im buying all pesticide free food from the local farmers market?

Iguana I know of a butcher about 12-15 miles from my home that sells grass fed steaks/beef cuts and cage free poultry.  Is this a good source in your opinion?  I have access to raw cage free eggs from a local farm down the road also.

I havent had a craving for any raw animal products yet but I also havent bought any to test out.  I spent 6 years devouring cooked bison, and cooked chicken and loads of cooked beef so I wonder about the damage i've done to my body.  I do seem to "detoxify" really fast.  I drink a ton of water and can easily fast for 2-3 days with no problem and "cleanse"...
but...  I have a problem keeping weight on!  I weigh 165 lbs and I am 6'3!  Im might just have to endure a little bit of weight loss to heal my body!

My plan as of now is.. To stay away from all cooked foods,  buy as many different kinds of fruit and vegetables as I can find and test them all out and see what my body does.

Do your craving become more on point after youve been eating raw for a long time?  Or do you continuously use your sense of smell and taste and ignore cravings?

so when i go to the store (i can afford whatever i want at the moment)  buy as many fruits and vegetables as I want and test which ones I like the best and need?

So.. If I buy all my produce from the farmers market from stands that are organic and pesticide free should I still be washing them off?  And i still have to get some things from the local grocery stoere anyway!   I cant lemons from the farmers market in Illinois!

I live in the suburbs of Illinois at the moment I dont really have access to many wild foods or foods that dont have some sort of pesticice.   One day I would love to live in the mountains in Southern Georgia!  but right now I have to make do!

thanks!  Ive been craving alot of berries, citrus(lemons, limes), and leafy greens lately.    I buy them all organic but from a grocery store/market.  Should I be washing this organic produce from the grocery store?

And i do plan on buying from the farmers market for some of my foods when it opens up again this spring.. Do I need to wash these foods from there?
