Kefir can go through a lot a adaptation to what milk you put it in.  Try keeping it closer to body temp, and remember to stir it several if not many times a day to provide the grains milk instead of already digested milk stagnating around undisturbed kefir grains.  I like it the best just,  just as it turns sour.  You have to cool it quickly then.

I have been making kefir for some time now and this is an excellent idea to stir kefir from time to time. This would provide them fresh milk, lactose.

Kefir grains won't go to the bottom but stay at the top. After some time of fermentation about 12h you can see whey at the bottom, milk in the center and kefirs at top.

Gel cap material contain 11% free glutamates, a neurotoxin.
Some react, most don't.
Think monosodium glutamate, similar stuff.

I react to glutamate (not some allergic reaction but it messes with my brain and body) and when I was taking gelatin caps it made me foggy. So I started to wonder about it and got an idea to suck the fish oil out and did not have any weird foggy feeling afterwards.

Woot. I can just bite the gelcaps, suck out the contents and spit out the capsule. WOOT!

I was doing the same thing.

« on: March 14, 2010, 01:18:51 am »
I don't remember if it was a study or not ( so do not belive it! ) but it said that body will react to smell of sweet. Body started to produce more insulin only by smelling something sweet. That's memory! If you were eating sweets as a kid, your body remembers the insulin response or it's just natural.

I did try to eat some dinner (haddock) later but I didn't get far. haddock in general makes me queasy even when I am feeling well and only got through a few bites.

The case could be the same as with mackrel - Anisakis simplex. Usually named as "Herring worm". Have read that the worm is not dangerous but can cause illness, even the cooked one causes illness in some as the body will have allergic reaction. Also, haddock seems to be one of the fishes containing this worm so it could be the case why you felt lethargic. The same happened with me when I ate mackrel and several times. Just like other have described it. "Some kind of allergic reaction to fish". But it happened only with mackrel.

I know the Primal folks are really big now on consuming small bits of unsalted cheese before a meal to absorb toxins in the stomach, otherwise meat can possibly putrefy. I'm going to look into this myself.

That's interesting as Bear always ate cheese with meals. As Aajonous, who don't have scientific evidence for this, the Bear might know this too but as it just feels rubbish to a lot of people, he won't mention it. Otherwise he just likes cheese a lot ! :)

If sulfur indeed helps with fat digestion, why not look at rotten eggs.  I bet Aajonus would approve it. :D

That's right, rotten eggs really look like a good source of sulfur. That would discard the needs for onions indeed.

Since eating raw meat/fat, I feel that I have to have have rested/recovered in order to eat in the first place, to some extent... Previously, eating cooked meat/fat, if I was worn out I could just eat any time, and my body would go in to overdrive to release that new energy and the more worn out I was the more I may want to eat. Since eating raw meat/fat, if I am un-rested, I don't seem to be capable of eating much. I find myself feeling like I do not want to eat, as if wanting to let my digestive system rest/recover or empty, yet feeling energy-depleted at the same time, I mean aching muscles etc... but wanting to just rest and not eat.

Try onions as they contain sulfur. Sulfur is needed to form bile acids which are critical for digestion and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins in the small intestine.

Health / Re: Getting constipated when eating fish.
« on: March 13, 2010, 08:11:01 pm »
Herring and other small fishes are full of dioxins and other highly toxic substances, especially if they come from the inner sea. You wouldn't even touch that stuff if you knew what they've in them. The Baltic sea is propably one of the most polluted seas after the Gulf of Mexico, carrying poisons from radioactive waste to oil and agriculture chems. When I ate raw, wild-caught salmon from the Baltic sea, I got extreme nausea every time. That's why ocean wild-caught fish is always more preferable.

Do you eat farmed salmon? I recall Aajonus saying that he has seen only one good fish farm during his whole life, that gave proper nutrition to the fishes.

I eat salmon rarely and if I do it is probably farmed.

NO, my herring is atlantic. I know about the Baltic sea problems and thanks for reminding it. Few times I ate small amounts of baltic herring but will not eat any more of them. Herring I am eating is wild caught from Northern Atlantic.

But the sea between you and me, kokki, is polluted a lot. I somewhere read that Baltic sea is the most polluted and the most dioxins dioxins containing sea.. Oh yeah, found it. Look at this - http://www.eesti.ca/index.php?op=article&articleid=26986

wait? are you saying they keep the whole fishes in some kind of salt water/seawater, or are you talking about pickled herring in a jar and stored on a shelf?

what is the rest of your diet like?
If your talking about the square canned herrings then thats your problem. Is it canned?

Thanks kurite and KD
Lol no, not marinated herring no jars and cans! My herrings are raw and untouched. I usually put the whole herring on my plate and start eating it.

I have done eliminating things and I have figured it out that it's about herring what makes me constipated.

Could it be too much salt ? It decreased potassium that draws water into colon or that mysterious constipating Vitamin D. Hard to believe but I have read about Vitamin D supplement reviews and some of them get constipated by taking it.

Health / Getting constipated when eating fish.
« on: March 13, 2010, 03:07:42 am »
I have problem with getting constipated after I have eaten herring. I know, it sounds weird but it is causing me some stress and discomfort after not having gone for 4-5 days. I have also eaten raw salmon that did not constipate me. The problem is with herring. What could cause this ? I have heard some people getting constipated after getting their high dose of Vitamin D. Could it be because of too much salt as these herrings come from container where they are kept in salt water ( although ocean is pretty salty too). Or might it be of getting too much calcium ? Herring has a lot of small bones. I remove the spinal cord but there are smooth bones in the meat that I usually ingest (not harmful at all).

I sometimes eat some other fish but others are just too expensive. 4lb of farmed salmon costs 22$ and tuna 40$. Herring is 3$ for 4lb :)

Well I was just pointing out that eating more tumeric is just more of a natural attempt at getting circumin in your diet. I just dont believe in supplements.

Curcumin is sold only as a supplement ? I don't know where you are from but I have pack(32g) of curcumin in kitchen that is sold for 1$ in Estonia.

ForTheHunt I think the horniness is because the unsaturated fat is metabolised faster, and you are well-fed so your body feels its' current fat supply is adequate, so your body needs to use it quickly. So, it.. makes stuff. =D

lol

I tried half cooked pork yesterday and yes, it was a bit tougher.

Ive done plenty if research of circumin but what form of it do you have? Most people just eat lots of tumeric. If its isolated I would be a little hesitant.

It's pure curcumin. Curcumin is an extract? from turmeric and therefore many times more useful than turmeric.

I've found that raw spices such as black pepper do speed up digestion but I reckon that means that fewer nutrients are absorbed from the food as a result, not less, given my own experience re stools.

I haven't noticed any difference in bowel movements after using pepper. From all the research I can find about piperin, it is noted that it improves nutrient absorption, making nutrients more bioavailable? . If it helps with nutrient absorption, doesn't that mean that colon absorbs as much as it can so the byproducts might be minimal as they already are on rpd.

How many of you know about piperine and it's benefits ?
http://www.naturalnews.com/024829_piperine_curcumin_black_pepper.html

I haven't used black pepper for some time but I should try it and see if it has any effect. It is said to increase nutrient absorption.

Another spice I know well is curcumin. I use curcumin every day and usually put it into coffee (I have curcumin and cinnamon mixed together). Curcumin really helps with my mind power :). It's like a small boost in IQ.

Anyone else using spices ? I think there are great health benefits behind some spices but I also understand that many of you are following strict RPD and therefore I greatly appreciate it if this thread is moved over in case of offtopic.

Try it for some time and then go to your doctor and test for parasites if you want but there are lots of people who believe parasites are healthy which doesn't even really mean they are parasites. Parasites are supposedly bad for you only on crappy diets because they only eat dead matter. This is why its dangerous for cooked food eaters because all the food they eat is cooked. I have no written proof of this but plenty of people on these forums believe it.

If parasites are healthy and will eat on only dead matter then how will you keep these healthy things in you when you don't have dead matter in your system ? It's contradicting. Thanks

Unless it's from a small farm and fed it's natural diet the chances are that the grocery pork is a dirty product to consume. Also pork is way too lean and the fat is unsaturated. So I would not eat much pork but for variety reasons would eat it once in a blue moon.

It depends how lean it is. For example, I eat only belly part which is full of fat. I think there is not much difference in saturated fat when comparing beef with pork. Some of you eat supermarket beef but our pork is not fed any worser than beef in USA.

I am digesting pork pretty well. I feel good on cooked pork. Don't know about raw pork though..

Yea, I have found threads about eating pork intestines to intentionally get some parasites like tapworm. For me it's something dangerous to try. Thats why I want to know if raw pork meat is healthy ? I am buying my raw pork fat and eating it raw allready but still I have some plug in my brain keeps me away from eating raw pork.

Whats up with the pork ? Is it unhealthy because it's fed dangerously in USA (The feed in Estonia is not that bad at all) or I can get some awful parasites from eating it raw. For some three weeks I have been eating cooked pork and I am feeling pretty fine. But since I have been eating it day by day I feel like I should switch it to raw. But here is the question. What are the dangers ? I sometimes buy good quality beef and eat it raw but I can't afford it to eat everyday.

Wai http://www.13.waisays.com/ talks about fasting while sick also. Sick animal does not eat so should we.

Although the watercure guy promotes the water and salt to keep away all sickness as the result of illness is dehydration.  http://www.watercure2.org/ Years back when I was taking sea salt with water, it made me constipated. Probably as a result of low potassium.

Yeah, I'm not sure what causes it? Maybe it's like a sugar rush from all the glycogen in the liver or something

Maybe because of Vitamin A and selenium which speed up thyroid.

These Medjool dates from Bard are not pitted.
The dates (medjool) were a breakfast suggestion from my Ayurvedic doc (Vaidya) to get rid of vata in the AM.
I don't leave home without them.

Interesting.  Is there any health benefits in dates besides nice amount of tryptophan and sugar ? I know only that body converts tryptophan to niacin using Vitamin B6 for this.

But I remember eating dates with warm milk. Really relaxing !

OK! I had this problem with flushing face as I described before in my previous posts on this thread.

Some anxiety made my face go red and it only happened in classroom where there was lesser oxygen and never outside. So the problem was with oxygen or with the heat as my body was trying to cool down the blood by widening blood vessels in the face. What helps me prevent the flushing face was decreasing the amount of milk I drank. Milk could have cause more mucous to form. Secondly, I started to make my own kefir which might help by increasing bifidobacteria and decreases ammonia. And thirdly, I started to consume raw eggs. Vitamin A or other nutrients ?

I hope it helps.

He definitely drinks milk.  Almost every time I've been anywhere near him he had a container of milk he was drinking in his hand.  I think it's not straight, but has an egg mixed in.

Funny, I've escorted cancer patients to oncology appointments.  These doctors tell the patients that during treatment they should drink lots of milkshakes (with egg).  They give them recipe books, but everything is heated!  Maybe a leftover from a hundred years ago treating cancer with RAF?  These doctors say there is proof that high antioxidant food preVENTS cancer, but no proof that it helps cure it, so put on weight with these milkshakes!

"Bacteria use lactose, or milk sugar, as a nutrient base. Bifidobacteria and clostridia use lactose, and they often describe these strains of bacteria as lactose-fermenting bacteria. One difference in Bifidobacteria and Clostridia is that only one can produce significant amounts of ammonia, only one can damage the intestines. Milk oligosaccharides contain lactose; they are fermented in the infant colon where they selectively stimulate the growth of Bifidobacteria. Clostridia are competitors of Bifidobacteria, and Clostridia produce ammonia. Ammonia and only ammonia produced from bacteria could have caused the aberrant behaviors. "

I do have problems with higher ammonia and when I drink milk, I feel better.

I found this interesting article http://aem.asm.org/cgi/reprint/3/5/264.pdf

Roqueforti forms methyl ketones as product of oxidation. Although I don't like the sentence that says the fats were being oxidized and that's how methyl ketons were formed.. But then the same should happen when the meat ages ? I should try if methyl ketones can help me transfer to ketogenic state faster.

I found this from summary "The acids became increasingly toxic as the carbon chain lengthened." Does this happen also with the meat and could the article be wrong about the "toxicity" ?
