Very sorry indeed that you are vomiting,  more usually a loose bowel results from Raw Chicken, and can last for some time.   Raw Chicken is difficult to manage, and not recommended for Newbies early on.   We do seem to develop a natural level of immunity through exposure to dirt and germs, but it may prove a long road.   Looking at the Raw Chicken salad in our Forum ‘3 meals: Sushi, Cod and Chicken’  should renew your enthusiasm for the Chicken!   By all means proceed at your own pace, because it is easy to become discouraged by repeated disappointments.

I ate Raw Chicken long before 1991 and Raw Meat and Raw Fish since 1978, so such food has made be ‘bomb proof’ to an extent.    We are never guaranteed a safe passage, however, and more extreme eating, such as I am trying now, has even more hazards – such is life!

Get the best available Raw Chicken, confine eating to the breasts, and try a little first to see how it settles down.
You can always put the remainder in the refrigerator to wait and see if this is the right moment to indulge to a greater extent.   Follow advice from more experienced members, particularly Tyler and Rawzi and let me know how you get on.   The Forum is here to support all its members, so make use of it, we are a friendly bunch.

I've eaten meat with maggots many times. In summer it's practically impossible no to have maggots. These green flies fly like crazy. ;)
I haven't compared high fatty meats with its lean counterparts, because they were aging in different times, in different temperatures.
What I can say is that they were really strong, pungent.

Just had severe problem with water infection leading to prostate problems which were extremely painful.   Have been eating maggot infested fish and am seeking reassurance that a maggot did not go down the wrong way and end up blocking my prostate or penis?   As something of an expert on maggot consumption, can you confirm that maggots do not present a problem of this kind?   I found the maggots tasted sweet and crunchy and am alarmed to think this could have such unfortunate consequences.   Please help if you can!

Such a pity to deny yourself a real treat like Raw Chicken and Raw Eggs because of all the scaremongering.    I have eaten lots of supermarket (poor quality??) Raw Chicken and found it delicious (perhaps I am a poor judge??) but without incident or discomfort.   Hope you continue to enjoy it - at your own pace!

Just find well raised sources of chicken and pork and try them both. Eat whatever meat you are craving like I do. My staple is meat but when I crave chicken or pork I eat those as well. Its good to try more things so your body knows whats in those foods for when you are deficient in whatever that particular food contains.

I have enjoyed eating raw chicken and raw pork quite a bit fairly recently and am getting a terrific craving for raw pork at the moment, which is almost uncontrollable.    I really don't know how to manage without it?    I  am sure if I do go back to it I will then want to return to the raw chicken which I also love?   Perhaps I have just been spoiled!

So what happens when these parasites eat all the bad shit inside you? If you are very sick, will they grow tremendously in size? And then when there is no bad tissue left, and you are on a raw diet which keeps you from producing bad tissue, do they start eating good tissue? Do they die? Just curious.

Spearman, let us know how your experiment goes!

My understanding is the janitorial tapeworms will be passed when there is no more decaying matter, but given our societal toxicity, I think you'd have to live pretty much in the jungle to ever reach that point. The digestive symbionts are likely to stay on a permanent basis if there is not over toxicity and the diet is raw and healthy. I think in the experiments AV mentions, the people infused with the worms lost them after 5 months more than likely because of continuing to eat garbage cooked food which eventually overwhelmed the whipworm.

I'll write a report on the trichinosis but I want to wait until I feel the symbiotic response. No point beginning a journal only to fail to have them bind with me.

Wondering if you produced your report and how you got on since February 12, 2010, 11:43:34 PM, as this was a long time ago.    Many others interested in outcome of your experiment with raw pig's intestines, and some may want to copy this, if beneficial.   Any others ever tried this?

I like open air high meat, the only problem is that in the spring time the maggots take over. And yet perhaps the maggots help speed up the process, I am still new to using maggot meat, but it seems to work just as good as regular high meat. Its kind of weird n especially if you get a maggot crawling back up your throat. but so far no negative effects.

REPLY:
Must be best way with high meat as 'maggots help speed up process', also enhance flavor and add to nutrient quality.   Flies provide all this benefit free, and should therefore be welcomed on our meat, fish and poultry rather than excluded from it as so many choose to do!    Well worth trying and enjoying!

I've gone past rare and into the bleu zone with the pork so I've got the hog on a leash right now, not quite by the horns. It is very delicious. I'm just waiting until I can get some good quality pork. Slanker's has some that is supposedly "wild caught," which I assume means they just keep them on their farmland and don't feed them.  I at least would get something that is organic and well raised if I don't get the Slanker's. This has kind of slipped my to-do list, but thanks for reminding me, I will get it done. I can't bring myself to do it with the same supermarket stuff I feed my dogs, though I give it to them raw and they don't have worms crawling out of their ears yet. Wait,  shit, maybe they do. One of them developed hematomas on his ear flaps which could be caused by parasites.  Now I'm a bit worried.

Thank you.    Yes I do like Raw Duck, but ligaments in the legs are tough and stringy, the rest is nice  and chewy.    Have tried Raw Turkey which has a very distinct flavor.   At times you could say I am a poultry (paltry) eater.   Generally I know what I like and like it a lot!    Your comments are always welcome and interesting.

Current scare throughout UK is with Camphylobactor in Chicken, and most shops are implicated in supplying this with excess of these bacteria.   I must have encountered it in my considerable munching of Raw Chicken, but it was always delicious.   I had one encounter with Yersini E Coli from raw chicken in 1991 which led to grossly loose bowels for more than a fortnight.    This went away and I have never had any repeat of anything so severe.     I hope there is no problem for us, because I like it, and want to continue enjoying it.   Perhaps Tyler (who does not like Chicken but always offers good advice) can help?

Yes, of course you can just hang the meat and let the flies swarm, as long as the meat doesn't dry out first. The advantage of some other set-ups is that you can let the maggots reach a full, plump size and drop off the meat into the container. Having them drop into an absorbent medium gets rid of their smelly excrement. You can also just leave the meat on the counter and let the maggots wiggle off when they're big, but then you have the source of their smell, too.

Techy, you seem a born experimenter, and certainly one of our more adventurous Members.   Try hanging a piece of meat or fish and see what attention it gets from flies, encouraging them if you can, and allow it to develop.   Keep it moist though, and you may need to cover it as maggots emerge to keep it from drying.   It should be fairly warm to help the maggots mobility.   They are very agile, and keeping them where you want them is a challenge.   Good luck and hope you enjoy results!

“People are being sold chickens with potentially lethal levels of bacteria, but not enough is happening to clean up this scandal.    With around 100 deaths a year are linked to Campylobacter, we're calling for the food industry to make chicken safe”.   Chickens are currently being sold in UK supermarkets with potentially hazardous levels of this bacteria.   How can we be sure it is safe to eat such chicken completely raw?    I have eaten a lot of supermarket chicken raw recently without any problems, so do not know if the risk is significant?   Any suggestions?

Sabertooth, I just seen ur video on facebook. Wow! U look amazing from the rest of ur family members. Thank u soo much for ur maggots meat. I m looking to make it myself to consume. I take one ball size of high meat without maggots everyday and I will do with maggots now. Don't worry about what others saying, all we could prove that , even living 100 yrs old as an active elderly person, without going to doctors. Our brain is not foggy like others. Since the 1st day I try raw meat, I m loving it. God bless to all my raw paleo friends.

Many Might Make a Meal of Maggot Meat and Maggot fish!   Raw meat or raw fish once really nice and rotten is improved by maggot’s external digestive system, making it far more rotten and giving it a strong and pungent flavour which tastes so good!   The maggots seem to explode in the mouth which is a bit disconcerting, but reassuring as they go down the hatch!   Flies landing on your rotten meat or fish are such a welcome sight, so encourage as much as you can to provide fine clusters of writhing maggots.   Eyes closed, mouth open and enjoy!

I've eaten a variety of invertebrates raw, including slugs, earthworms, maggots, ants, mayflies, and beetle larvae.

Slugs are very spicy (at least the ones I've eaten), maggots are subtly sweet and take the taste of what they're eating (I've picked them off deer carcasses, and have 'raised' them on fish that have been filleted in summer), ----------etc.

REPLY:
Amazed, inspired, and fascinated by your invertebrates exploits and envy your considerable courage!
Particularly intrigued by “have 'raised' them (maggots) on fish that have been filleted in summer”.
I would like a “blow by blow-fly” account of this!   Was the fish thoroughly rotted before offering it to flies?
Important, because fresh fish does not seem to interest flies much!
I like fish tasting maggots, and get real “buzz” seeing flies swarm on meat or fish, encouraging them as much as possible.   I can scarcely wait to see egg clusters, then long time before these are active.   Feed with more fish (rotten? fresh? which?) to sustain them.    My first attempt worked, but need advice to speed up process and increase yield, enjoy more often.   Please help!

EATING MAGGOTS – FIRST TIME!
Friday, 5 September 2014
Just ate my very first two jars, both full of wriggling maggots - one of raw minced beef, other a piece of cod.   Surprisingly sweet taste, and really quite pleasant provided you can keep the little beggars from leaving your lips, and chew them well before they go down so they won’t wriggle much.   Slightly musty taste, and cod tastes fishier than the beef with maggots likewise.   Need to cover the jars with bits of handkerchief to admit air, and must keep jars warm and away from frost.   I think I see why Sabertooth and others enjoy this food, just don’t think about it, spoon it up and shovel it down, with occasional drink of water.   Just going to see ‘News at Ten’ and, if I’m not on it, I’ll probably be all right!

How disappointing you couldn’t eat the maggot infested meat, because you really wanted to try?    I similarly discarded my rotten Cod, simply because it had flies eggs on it, and did not even wait for maggots to develop, so very much regret not trying it.   Encouragement, from Cherimoya and Warrior, so making garage a fly friendly area, relocating all spiders and removing cobwebs, and hoping flies will be attracted to meat and fish hanging inside.   Been cool and wet lately, so not many around.   If all else fails, maggots are available in our local fishing tackle shop, so could introduce those to my rotten fish, meat and poultry.   I believe once they are rotted to suit the maggots, they will be good enough and ready to eat!   After all, we really want to join that exclusive band of raw Paleo diners who tackle and regularly enjoy this unusual treat, don’t we?

This is me with what is left of my renegade lamb. It is rotten and starting to fester with maggots. Yum, yum.

Festering with maggots is yummy?  I've never tried that.
How many days you left that carcass outside?
What's the temperature and humidity in your area?

MAGGOT FISH.
A fly got in my refrigerator two weeks ago, with everything covered in plastic film except a plate of raw cod, going a bit high.   After getting rid of fly and cleaning out refrigerator and contents I discovered little pile of tiny yellow eggs about 2 mm long and thick as cotton on top of the raw cod fish.   Had three choices:
1. Ignore and continue to eat as normal.
2. Brush or wipe the eggs off before eating.
3. Leave alone till eggs developed into maggots and eat them as well.
So I threw it in the waste bin, and away it went.
Regret not adopting one of the choices, particularly the last, as not confronted by live maggots before.   Hate wasting good (rotten) fish, and wished Sabertooth, or other person that tried maggots, was on the telephone advising me to go ahead, as I might have enjoyed it.   I decided to have second try, and have left a little raw cod in open top jar in garage waiting attention of a fly.   Still need encouragement on massive scale if anyone can bolster my confidence?   Saw video of lad with unusual Christmas Dinner, which he obviously enjoyed!

so i bought a whole chicken the other day and it's really got me loving raw chicken right now. tastes pretty amazing with all the fat. it's strange how things used to gross me out and now im loving them. i cant get another chicken til saturday but i've got a serious craving.
How do you set about eating a whole raw chicken?   I love raw chicken breasts and dream of tackling a small, whole raw chicken, but do not know how you systematically dismantle and eat it, as it obviously makes several meals on different days?   Some of it can be set aside in a jar at room temperature to go nice and rotten, and I enjoy eating this, but how much do you set aside?   Obviously you really know how to enjoy raw chicken, have a serious craving, and have found the pluck to take on the cluck!

Just doubled my intake of raw lambs liver, but it is cold, and comes in a vacuum sealed pack from New Zealand via the supermarket.   No longer warm from the kill, but still tastes good and have a craving for it.   Bet raw seals liver tastes good when warm!

Many thanks for your advice, which I value.   As a fisherman I just loved the fresh fish we trawled up among the oil rigs of the North Sea.   They increased my enthusiasm for really fresh raw fish, which I now buy from a Fishmonger who calls here on Friday mornings.   I guess I could eat it till it comes out of my gills, and any not eaten fresh is kept several weeks till it has gone rotten.   I like it either very fresh or extremely rotten - and quite a bit in between.   I do love raw pork and raw chicken and also rotten chicken, but have not tried rotten pork yet.   Lamb and beef and turkey are good too, but I tend to stick with what I am eating for some time, so will stay with the fish now, both fresh and very rotten.   Still need some encouragement to try raw entrails and raw intestines, but would really like to try them if obtainable.   You may be surprised, but they actually appeal to me!

EATING FISHY TASTING MEATS.
Eat raw seal, whale or walrus and other fishy meats like Inuit delights?   Not locally available, so what else?   Swordfish tastes like a fishy version of raw pork, tuna is firm and fishy, and there are similar meaty fish to try.   Making ordinary meats taste fishy was a puzzle?    Putting fish on top of meat in the refrigerator with a little downward pressure would allow delicious fishy juices to infuse into the meat.   They could be eaten together as a fish/meat sandwich.   Smothering the meat with raw fermented cod liver oil would impart a cheesy, fishy taste.   For high meat they could be made to rot together in the refrigerator, or quicker at room temperature in frequently aired jars.   When thoroughly rotten, a cheesy, fishy, meaty taste might result!   My experiments continue!
