General Discussion / Re: Why do humans cook meat?
« on: November 20, 2010, 08:08:48 am »
I am wondering if that at a crucial human apex  between the neolithic and Paleolithic ages were the tribes of big game hunters who were low carbers and lived of of fat and meat began to lose the availability of their megafauna, and were far less adapted to plant foods than were the more omnivorous breeds of man who had just begun to experiment with cooked foods. The fact that cooking took off may have More to to do with the ability of those hungry people to survive off of cooked foods, while the pure bred paleo people couldn't adapt to the low fat plant carb diets of the neolithic dawning. Cooking isn't healthy but neither is starving so people learned to adapt to cooked foods, those who didn't adapt, like the Neanderthals and other human subspecies simply starved out throughout the ICE famines. Also the carb adapted Neolithic people could live off of fewer calories and had smaller bodies so they didn't have to rely on the big game that their larger, smarter carnivorous cousins were absolutely dependant on for survival..

Carnivorous / Zero Carb Approach / Re: Zero Carb TEA? thoughts/opinion

I have a confession to make. I have forsaken all tea drinking accept for a cup of chamomile once in a full moon to keep me from howling like a ware wolf. I will also drink a cup of decaff coffee about once a week or so. It seems to be good for me and I enjoy the taste, so I indulge. Even pre paleo I never tolerated caffeine very well, something on my fathers side of the family gives us headaches even after small amounts. The family is split between people who have to drink it every day because of addiction, and people who never built up enough tolerance to become addicted.

The assumption of Gay peoples' health superiority is an illusion caused by the fact that healthy gays are more likely to come out of the closet because of their attractive nature (thus standing out), and sickly gay people are likely to hide behind a Vail of in the closet lies and drugs. The gays that don't do drugs do seem to glow with better health than the average bear, but perhaps its just assumption.

Anyone have statistical data on healthy gays? :-*

PP is right you do need to seek counsel with a kidney disease expert

There is one thing you may want to concider especially with your kidney problems. CADMIUM TOXICITY
Its a know cause of kidney dissease, as well as numbers of other health issues.

I had a hair analysis done while I was real sick, and it showed I had high cadmium as well as off the charts in aluminium.

I called poison control and the guy told me that high cadmium usually is caused by smoking cigarettes or eatting large amounts of leafy green vegtables. I used to eat a lot of green vegtables and never experience any health benefits from doing so. I often wonder if my high cadmium was from diet or occupation. Its sometimes a contaminate of  fertilizers, as well as used in the matterial I work with as an electrician.

A red flag is waving in my mind when I hear someone with kidney problems who eats allot of greens.
http://www.cadmium.org/env_exp.html
Do some more research on this issue and try to Bring it up if you can find a good doctor,

I am poor and without insurance so when I went to doctors offices with my hair analysis results they treated me like a head case. If you don't have elevated lead or mercury in your blood then they don't consider it poisoning. Even a kidney specialist wont diagnose these types slow accumulated toxicity's even though issues like mild cadmium toxicity are a prevalent cause of many kidney issues (Diagnosed or not).

My problems were a combination of toxicity and nutritional imbalance, I am not saying we have the same issues, or that cadmium is the primary culprit, only I suggest that If you have kidney issues that you should at all cost avoid any additional cadmium exposure, and don't rule out cadmium poisoning even if the medical test rule it out. Most toxic metals will get stored in the tissues so that a blood test will not show any toxic levels even though the tissues are saturated with it, this is especially true with cadmium which is accumulated over time.

sorry that there hasn't been such good results on this diet, Maybe you were too damaged to go cold turkey into ketosis, during the adaption process there is a little extra kidney strain. Have you tried to do intermittent fasting in order to allow your blood to clean out from time to time? Not making a medical recommendation that you should fast. But just consider when the kidneys are having protein?ketone? overload I assume that a series of short fast could help.

Keefer made me feel worse and I stupidly ate it anyway for a few months before I realized that it wasn't helping at all. I am not saying that dairy is universally bad, but I believe that anyone with suspected dietary issues should try to give it up along with grains for an extended period to see if there is any improvements. I have been dairy free for ten months and don't miss it one bit, although I do have a strong craving for butter and will taste a bite when making food for my kids.

I will cook mushrooms, eggs, sweet potatoes, bacon in butter for the kids, and I try to cover all of their cooked foods in a layer of melted pasture butter. I will give them milk to drink. I do believe that the young can handle dairy better than adults and that because most people would never feed their young raw paleo those kids have to obtain animal fats and nutrients somehow and dairy is what the world has deemed wholesome for growing kids to consume. But its not optimal and I wish I didn't feel obligated to give my children store bought yogurt, milk and cheese, but I don't have the means to feed them anybetter. My breakfast growing up was general mills sugar cereal with milk and off I went to school.

Anyway There is a strong anti-dairy wing of the paleo movement and it seems that those with past health issues are the ones who do the best without it(in general)

I had great grandfather who's last name was Alexander, he was a woodsmen and a naturalist, so I was debating on wither or not to name my Son Alexander in honor of him as well as in honor of Alexander the great, but I did feel that there might be some negative stigma behind naming my son after a gay man, so I made Alexander his middle name. The Macedonians were a wild bunch of horsemen that probably liked bareback riding, but I don't care, I still think they were awesome. I have a don't ask don't care policy in regards to moralizing over homosexuality.

Though It does suck to be labled as a gay wad just because you are well read , well spoken, didn't have any girl friends, play soccer , pratice yoga, ware tight pants. I love some aspects of gay culture and live in Lexington which is right up there with sanfran as a homosexual Mecca, There is no rivalry between me and gay people, I don't worry about them taking my woman or trying to play alfa male so I always got along with them and find them non threatening for the most part. (When in Rome, put up with the debauchery)

My granny was a hillbilly and when she moved into the city she fell in love with all the people at the gay bars and all the men call her Granny and treat her with more respect than any of her straight men ever did.(sometimes she calls me to pick her up because she is too drunk to drive home, and all the bar flys there are fabulous and the drag queens treat my Granny like family, its kind of sad that she feels more at home there than anywhere else, but if it makes her happy then who am I to judge.

I'm obviously a little obsessive about these discussions sometimes yet paradoxically don't really edit or think to much about what I post till after the fact, so I often loose track of what is important and am not taken aback when called out for being a jerk sometimes :)

I am telling you man there are parallels in our thought patterns that I often try to dismiss with facetious, although tongue in cheek, insults. You see I can be the biggest jerk you could imagine,if you don't believe me, ask my wife, she tells me every day,(and I respect her for her honesty). I am sorry for being such a douche bag about silly crap, it all began when you called me out on some of my paranoid delusions of grandeur regarding the truth behind various conspiracy theories. I still believe the truth is out there and I know internet conspiracy doesn't have all the answers. I understand some of the falseness and obsessively negative facets of the beliefs that I hold annoy you, but I still I found it difficult to think of you as anything other than a silver tongued jerk ever since you called me out for being being a conspiracy nut ;until just recently.

If the whole upright apes evolved in the savannas and river valleys under direct sunlight is correct then it makes evolutonary logic for us to have hair on the top of the head to protect the part of the body most exposed to the intense rays of the sun. Long hair keeps me from getting a red neck. My father cant go out into the sun without SPF40 on his shiny bald crown. He has age spots from sun damage on top of his head, he would cook his brain out on the savana without a hat. So far I have a little thinning, but no signs of balding.

The same thing just happend to me
I got 4 pounds of lamb fat with my beef and it tasted like rancid grains, Its free so I cant complain too much, and to add insult to injury, this time of year all the bone marrow disappears from the whole foods market, so I am starving for fat and have experienced the headache mentoned above. Tomorrow I will get a fresh chunk of lamb fat and hopefully its good. Ever so often this happens but I usually have more reserve in the freezer, but I got spoiled on the 1 dollar per pound fat trimmings from wholefoods and just expected to always have that to fall back on(it dried up with the marrow supply). Its the one scary thought I have, what will happen to me in a disaster or if I am locked up and have to go cold turkey come off a rzc diet.

no seriously judge you cant put me in jail the food will kill me, I need raw flesh to live!!!
(could you imagine the look of disbelief in the courtroom while they take me away screaming)

Kd I think we have much more in common than I originally thought my friend from the north

We both share past health issues and have experimented with other radical diets before finding raw paleo
I was never completely vegan but I did do a few stints of vegetarian and wasted away to 140 pounds.
I also started to practise yoga, even when I was young I was a pull upping fool who ruled the school yard on the monkey bars.

I trained in mixed marital arts and spared with amateur ultimate fighters. I am not particularly devoted to any one particular discipline, but I love to test myself in games of skill and dexterity. Before I got sick I had what the instructor called freaky strength and could hold my own and squirm out of any corner(I am still working on getting my glory days back)Testing you straights against others in simulated combat is 100% in harmony with the paleo spirit. I long to get back into it
http://www.truthincombat.com/
go to this site and you will see me the top picture sparing with my instructor( I was younger and had a buzz cut, check out all the fun stuff I used to do. The spirit of real combat without the deadly wounds.

He teaches all forms of combat and in the picture you will see him reaching for a gun, while defending against my attack. Its very fun and you should try this exercise. Say you have a gun, do you think you could drawl and fire it before a crazy man can beat you to floor, its not easy. If you are on the ground with an attacker on you ,can you get your gun before he beats you unconscious. Real fun, or try to fend of an man swinging a tazer. We also learned stick fighting, knife fighting, and defence against knife attack.

Kd looks just like this guy Roy I used to spar with. He was badass, way to strong and fast for me to equal.

Is your daily work: MENTAL? or PHYSICAL?
Are you on ZC, VLC, LC, High Everything?

Article says brain consumes much carbs.
So it's more likely brain workers need more carbs?

My work is physical as well as mental, being an electrician I have to be strong nimble as well as crafty, and I think fat is a more suitable working mans than carbs. I would always have dips in energy and feel sluggish if I eat carb rich foods , but fat allows me to work non stop without any sluggishness or dip in mental acuity.

High meat seems to be a catalyst in maximizing energy especially on low carb and I use it every other morning.

Off topic observation!

Allot of big old working men I know eat fried foods and do well on high everything(carbs fats protein), Hard work can offest a lot of the negative effects of bad food. They seem to be burning the candle at both ends and they wont live to be 80, but some poor working folks just don't care to much about maintaining optimal health and when their backs go out in their fifties they blame it on work related strain and not the degenerative effects of poor diets.

Allot of brainiacts I know, overthink everything and get into whole grains and 'good wholesome' sad foods with limited fat. They eat soy and are even in worse shape than the working men(generally speaking). Low fat really makes them age faster and makes them more prone to mental degeneration , especially because  their hard working minds are desperate for essential fatty acids for fuel and when they don't have the raw matterial their brains will have to burn less than optimal fuel., which leads to damage and degeneration. Genius in itself is a very volatile phenomenon and without the proper nutrition many of the brightest minds are destroyed by the madness of nutritional imbalance.

I am low/Z carb for 10 months and seem to take to it like a fish to water, I certainly hope there isn't any down side I may experience long term. From where I was healthywise ; those who experience some of those bad effects are still much better off than I was pre paleo.

Perhaps people do have different capacities? I was pre diabetic, so raw Zc seemed the only road for me. I could eat a low glycemic dinner with less than 30 carbs and go to bed with a BG of 110 and wake up 130, after fasting for 12 hours, So I assume my liver made excess glucose{possibly because of some type of  damage, it always felt conjested and bloated)

Now that I have been Zc my blood sugar rarely goes out of the 80s and I actually drop to the mid 70s , I try to drink lemon water and get some carbs from coconut butter, but am still afraid to experiment leaving the Zc ketogenic zone, because of my past pancreatic issues. I would like to give ZC at Least two years in order for my glands to rejuvenate more completely, before adding more carbs(unless I develop any issues of carb deficiency)

My main issue now is fat deficiency, If I don't get enough fat(about 70% of my total calories, my blood sugars will drop along with my energy(I begin to feel mild rabbit starvation)

I got my lamb fat the other day an it tasted like rancid grains; I totally couldn't eat it, and now I am struggling to find a good fat source in order to maintain myself. I bought some lamb belly trimmings that were real tasty. It seems that if I eat the wrong food my body now totally knows and will reject it , whereas pre paleo I was totally clueless.

« on: November 10, 2010, 11:38:15 am »
I was so conjested pre paleo that when I would eat my baked vetgable dishes with olive oil, the olive oil would pass totally undigested, and if I were stupid enough to eat fried food I would have some type of gallbladder attack were my side would radiate pain, my pancreas was also a little damaged so it would not produce enough insulin or digestive enzymes. The liver and pancreatic problems I had seemed to be somehow related to the same condition, and both issues resolved soon after changing to the diet.

At my worst when all the oil was passing through undigested I tried to go on an ultra low fat diet, with liver Epsom salt flushes, but I was already malnourished  it just made things worse. The raw egg flush at least replaces the garbage being flushed out with healing nutrition.

I will say it again that I eat a couple of egg yolks and drink lemon water and eat coconut butter everyday along with the paleo diet and I believe its worked wonders.

yes, avoiding congestion causing foods is the key to long term successful liver cleaning. Assuming that much of the liver congestion people suffer from is a result of either the wrong foods or a combination of bad food and exposure to pollutants ;then what is the proper diet one must follow along with the live flush, in order to attain lasting benefits.

Something I was eatting was making me totally conjested, and only after I eliminated all grains, dairy, vegtable oil, and vegtables;then replaced that food with raw animal goodness, did the issues I had resolve.

I used a lot of vegtable oils and looking back now I see how poorly my liver could handle the processed grease. So I assume that would be at the top of the avoid list

Next I would eliminate all grains and dairy, even nuts can be hard on a clogged liver because of their aberrant protein and fat structures.

After that, it may be up to the individual to decide how much they are willing to give up to have good health, and of course some individuals are not as bad off as others and can indulge in congestion forming foods without suffering; once they are cleansed and healed.

Its still up for debate, anyone else have any suggestions?

CURE IS SUCH AN AMBIGUOUS TERM

Most the people I know who skipped chemo and refused all treatment for a so called malignant tumor are alive and well, long after the doctors said they would be dead.

My great grand mother had a tumor in her breast, for three years it didn't grow nor did it cause any issues and some young doctor decided to biopsy it, and guess what, it was cancer and the biopsy procedure made it metastasize, they killed the first wave cancer with surgery and radiation, but the radiation gave her a more aggressive form of lymphatic cancer and she was dead within 6 months.

Before conventional medicine got involved she was strong vibrant and could walk up the side of the mountain where she lived, the only thing wrong was a lump on the breast, and they turned it into a death sentence.(Some people are better off with a tumor)especially if they change their way of living and correct what ever in balance that caused the tumor to grow in the first place.

There is a friend of mine who at the age of 14 he started roofing with his brother. 20 years later both himself and his brother developed asbestos's related cancers. He told me his brother worked hard every day and walked into the clinic for treatment. 6 months later he was dead. The doctors told my friend that he had baseball sized tumors in his lungs and other tumors through his body and he would be dead within a couple of years if he didn't let them cut it out. He said no way, your not cutting on me, and his doctor told him he was crazy (to his face, he was called crazy by his doctor, for refusing to be butchered) This was 15 years ago and the man is still living and in fairly good condition, The only radiation treatment he receives is from the tanning bed which he claims makes the pain of the tumors better.

There are many others I know personally that don't need to be cured in order to feel better and live better than what the medical field has to offer(myself included) The cure is often worse than the sickness

Finding the perfect balance of THC is a difficult task ,its like trying to walk the razors edge

The true benefits 'biologically speaking', come from that Hannibal was referring, and occur  under certain conditions, a balanced and slow build up of the THC, will have a number of positive effects mainly by causing the vessel to mellow out, My mind is constantly running and I would work my brain to death while not getting anything done or making the world a cooler place. The slow build up of THC in the body triggers tolerance to build and I have found that there is a line, step over that line you will keep building tolerance even after you have reached the maximum biological benefit { the mellowing out but still in focus. If you cross that line (go one toke over the line) Then the positive effects of being mellow yet still mentally functional), will begin to fade while a haze of excess descends, and you can get dopey.

If the levels of THC stored in the body are fasted out from time to time and then only reintroduced in very small amounts then you can have that balance(the best of both worlds)The mellowing and joyful state of being, without being lost in the haze.

Gallager sums it up best when he said, put the dope away you aren't getting any higher;just lower on dope.

Epsom salt flushes are harsh and not necessary for people on the raw paleo. I did a couple of them in my sad days. I got tons of stones out  and was relieved for a couple of weeks but as long as I was still eatting problem foods the congestion just came back. The egg yoke flush along with a raw paleo diet is about the best remedy for a clogged liver I have yet to discover.

There isn't much data about the details behind why egg yolks cleanse the liver, but I believe that raw egg yolks do have some beneficial effects. The assumption is that the cholesterol within the yolk along with the vitamines and fats within, will saturate the liver if taken with oil and pushed through the stomach undigested by the action of the lemon. This sludge of yolk oil and citrus will work its way through the liver and trigger a release of bile and in the process the bile along with the  cholesterol will soften liver stones and help clear away congestion. The liver gets congested and constipated and the flush acts like a nourishing liver laxative.

Before this diet my sense of taste and smell were dull. I was eatting different foods, trying to find a more healthy diet and it was very hard for me to decide what was good or bad based on my taste.

I tried to eat greens even though I didn't like them, I ate yogurt even though it was bland and neutral to taste. I never really had any powerful craving for the taste of a certain food on my old diet.

Now my sense of taste and smell has become more powerful and can be overwhelming, I was just curious if anyone else noticed the same thing. Things I once  tolerated now seem totally disgusting. Just a whiff of onion, cabage, or garlic can make me queasy with distaste. When I was carving the Halloween pumpkin the smell of the pumpkin guts was very repugnant. I crave pure taste now and even the littlest speck of spice can make a good cut of meat taste off.

I can now discern the differences between different meats and If I don't like something about a food I will avoid it completely. In my sad days I would keep eatting foods that didn't taste good out of nutritional principle, but now if I dint like the taste of it I wont buy it again, I don't care how pure and wholesome it is claimed to be.

Its kind of sad; I remember some the people I first started to smoke with wouldn't touch tobacco and there was a consensus that tobacco (at least smoked habitually in the form of cigarettes is a nasty habit without any real positive effect. As time went on though, they became used to tobacco through smoking it out of cigar papers and eventually began to use tobacco as a mask to hide the smell of marijuana, and became hooked. (I never liked tobacco mixed into the herb). Its foolish for teenage potheads to hide behind a Vail of tobacco smoke so they can toke up before school. Then some may say its foolish to breath the smoke of anything.

My liver was very conjested before I went paleo and I had attempted to do flushes in the past and would clear out tons of stones, but the congestion would return because I was still eatting the wrong foods. Once I cleaned myself up on the raw Paleo diet, then the liver issues went away completely,

Once clean you may want to keep up a more mild cleansing protocol that I have made part of my diet. I drink 2 glasses of lemon water a day and usually try to drink a couple of egg yolks, and I eat three tablespoons of coconut butter daily(basically I incorporated the liver flushing recipe ingredients into my staple diet and have had good results. I believe the mild cleansing and nourishing properties of the liver flushing foods have been a key ingredient of my new found wellness.

perhaps that's why many professional athletes and olympic champions chose marijuana over alcohol or other intoxicants, because it allows you to perform under its influence without physical impairment(marijuana intoxication wont effect the balance of people experienced with its use, I could literally smoke some pot and walk a straight line on my hands backwards, but when I have tried to play ball after drinking only a couple of drinks the results are terrible(totaly sucked).

I grew up around marijuana culture, Its a way of life for many people where I live. I remember smoking out with my friends before hitting the basketball court(like a ritual), and we would whip up on the other teams and everyone seemed to hit shots better stay more collected and preform at an overall higher level. (from my experience there are some positive enhancements that are caused by marijuana use.

We all knew about the Allen Iverson paradox
They told us in school; that one Joint was as damaging as one pack of cigarettes and yet people like Allen Iverson could smoke two or three blunts a day(the equivalent of 4 to 6 packs of cigarettes, according to the 'experts') and still compete with world class athletes and excel.

Its a mind altering herb that those who wish to view it as a negative vice are free to do so, that being said I think it wise to limit its use for special occasions ;for those who are predisposed to use it anyway. Its possible to use it occasionally without turning into a burnout . I wish to enjoy occasional peak experience under marijuana enhancement without becoming a lazy hippie so I must limit myself to a couple of tokes when the spirit arises. Snow boarding must be totally awesome on pot
