I find MarsOne amusing but highly unlikely to succeed. For one thing, none of the applicants are being selected due to having scientific abilities, but for charisma etc., the sort of things one expects on a reality TV show. The producers of MarsOne are also the evil monsters who got the whole Big Brother TV series concept first going, thus ruining TV for a long time. There are other considerations, the amount the producers claim to need for a Mars mission is apparently way too low for a real Mars mission and the global TV rights for the mission will not be anywhere near enough to raise the billions needed to get the mission going. Then there is the point made that anyone living more than 10 months on Mars would experience permanent and fatal bone-loss/muscle-loss and pregancy would be highly unlikely to succeed, and space radiation would likely give them all cancer after just a month of travel to Mars. I am not impressed even with the few successful applicants from the UK, either.
Still, as an absurd idea, I find it amusing.
