Brave guy going public with his raw carnivore diet like that. I wonder what happened when his employer/colleagues/friends found out? Lol I doubt anything positive happened.

Hamster cannibalism aside, here's another link to the same vid which is accessible by those of us in the USA.
Bizarre Foods: St. Petersburg Russia

Hey Eric, unfortunately, that is completely different video!

"Bizarre foods" is the TV show but the episode name is: "No Cooking Required Special".
Not "St. Petersburg Russia"

I'm sure many RPDers will LOVE this! Probably a good idea to show friends/family that rawpaleo isn't so weird after all...

Typical Mainstream Nutritionist hackery drivel,

Im hope the Mens Health article, coming up, will drum up mainstream interest and allow me a platform to espouse the benefits of Raw Paleo.
Time will tell,

Sabertooth, have you considered doing a blood test to officially confirm that your body is healthy?

The best would be if the film crew could film you in the doctor's office with the doctor saying that you're in good health according to blood test results!

Mainstream society seems to base their opinions on whether something is healthy or not on blood tests...

Great way to not waste breast milk! This is awesome.

Breast milk from RPD women would surely be so much more nutritious and less toxic than breast milk from SAD diet women

Sabertooth, you are my hero! Wow! You are so so so so SOOOOO brave!

I have been so afraid of ridicule and bullying since a young age. I don't think I will EVER have the guts you have. WOW is all I can say! I enjoy reading your interviews so much!

While on holiday visiting my wife's family and their friends, they seemed very accepting that I had to eat raw meat to cure my headaches. They thought I looked strong and healthy, so that helped my case a lot. Also my kids tell them that I'll get sick and grumpy if I eat sad food. Most extreme was smashing open live mussels with a rock at one lovely family friend's house. I was able to encourage her with her low carb plan to lose weight and maintain her mobility (born without knee caps).

Also TD has good advice to play down our diet when conversing with others - calling peoples lovingly made scones 'poison' is  probably not what they like hearing!

Wow...I've never heard of people born without knee caps...that sounds horrible =( Is she able to walk properly?

I've also made the mistake of calling food my family ate before as "poison"... I learned to shut up after a while. I just got really worked up after reading Aajonus's WWTL! haha

My mom is a sad eater and its tough with her. She always says stuff like.."Other boys your age look alot fuller" Or...."Your growing your suppose to eat like crazy" i also cook for her and she says stuff while she's eating like..."why are you depriving yourself of all the tastes in the world" My brother is completely confused about my diet and doesn't understand even though I explain. he gets angry and fustrated. They also know i would like to live in a nudist colony..they are pretty confused and angry about that... :)..hehe...

Haha this was funny. Nudist colony for full body sunbathing! I'd love to try living in a nudist colony for a couple of weeks just for the experience.

Your workplace has no issues with raw meat (raw lamb)? You can eat raw meat in front of people?

I think that whatever obessions or fixations you have, the sugar intensifies that.  Generally, 8/1/1 increases fear/dread/anxiety, and I think it increases avoidance of whatever you fear.  In my case, I feared other people, and so I started feeling more and more fear/anxiety in their presence.

I have the exact same experience... I was so full of anxiety and fear every single day it was mentally exhausting. I would be scared to see people I know....I thought I was going insane...

Great info PaleoPhil, thanks.

I have tried adding water to Really Raw brand raw honey bought from iHerb.

After a couple weeks, there is a strong alcohol smell and just drinking a little sip burns my  throat... hm...is this good or bad?

is it the good probiotics burning my throat? (like how too much high meat sightly burns throat as well?)

They urinated where they ate - god almighty!   -v -v -v -v -v

Oh goodness Tyler, you had me bent over with laughter for nearly 5 minutes straight!

but really, urine is just stigmatized in modern society, it is said to be even more pure than distilled water since a healthy liver filters all the impurities out of it.

1. Went Zero-carb a couple days ago after I realized that even a small amount of fruit was causing acne to breakout on my cheeks and eyebrow areas.

2. Going to eat one medium sized meal of tender vegetables (lettuce, cucumber, carrots) with Zero-carb to help bowel movements

3. Trying to ferment my unheated honey by adding natural spring water to it, mixing honey with it and letting it sit in a dark cupboard in room temperature. So far, one jar out of 3 has started to have an alcoholic smell. I'm hoping this means beneficial bacteria is growing.

I didn't go quickly cold turkey to ZC--I went gradually and grudgingly to LC, then VLC, then ZC--so it depends when before ZC you mean. Before going LC I had been increasing my consumption of raw fruits and whole-fruit smoothies in an effort to gain weight and increase potassium. I noticed that my acne, IBS, potassium-cramps in my foot, nightmares, etc. worsened as I did so and I didn't succeed in bulking up. Instead, my energy and strength declined and I seemed to be withering away. All this was part of what led me to think that lower carb might be worth trying.

The fact that my potassium cramps got worse rather than better was particularly suprising to me, since I was eating so-called high-potassium foods like bananas and taking potassium supplements. The improvements from lowering carbs began early on, but it wasn't until I got my carbs down to VLC and I greatly increased my intake of raw red meats and fats that my potassium cramps were diminished to very low levels. This was quite a shock to me. I later learned from William and elsewhere that carbs bind with minerals like potassium (though there are disagreements on what effects this has on absorption). I originally didn't intend to go ZC at all, but as I gradually reduced my carb levels I noticed improvements right from the start and greater and greater improvements every step of the way. I know some people consider raw fruits as perfectly good food, but for me they have not proven so. I'm not saying that this necessarily applies to anyone else, just reporting my experience. I like fruits and am trying to find a way to incorporate a small amount of them in my diet without triggering negative effects, so it's not at all a matter of me wishing to be ZC or even VLC.

Apparently I'm not the only person to experience problems with raw fruit. Dr. Kurt Harris and others report not doing well healthwise when their fruit intake gets too high. Dr. Harris goes as far as discouraging anyone from eating any fruit other than moderate amounts of berries:

"Fruit is just a candy bar from a tree. Stick with berries and avoid watermelon which is pure fructose. Eat in moderation." (http://www.paleonu.com/get-started).

Dr. Harris' advice does match my personal experience. I've also noticed that the folks who eat lots of fresh, raw, whole fruits, such as the 811ers, tend to experience many of the same health problems that I did (including acne in some cases) and more.

If I want to have acne break out on my face (and possibly scalp, chest and back) tomorrow I have found that all I have to do is eat sufficient fruit--especially sugary tropical fruits or fruit smoothies or juices, but even sufficient low-sugar fruit has done it in the past. Then, if I want to get rid of the acne within a day or two, I just go back to eating meat and fat. I have replicated this multiple times and it didn't start only after I had been ZC for a while. In retrospect it's not surprising, since sugars are strongly linked to acne. The idea that raw fruit sugars--even from fresh, raw, fiber-rich fruits--are somehow exempt from this does not appear to hold up in my case.

Gary Taubes reports that the research of Peter Mayes and Jorgensen C. Reiser found that "given sufficient time, high-fructose diets can induce high insulin levels, high blood sugar, and insulin resistance, even though in the short term fructose has little effect on either blood sugar or insulin and so a very low glycemic index." (GCBC, pp. 200-201). Insulin resistance is connected to acne (Dr. Cordain - Ph.D. in Health: Audio Interview, http://www.acne.org/interviews/2008/07/10/dr-cordain-phd-in-health/). Interestingly, I have never been diagnosed with insulin resistance (though some of my relatives have), so perhaps even sub-clinical levels of insulin resistance can contribute to acne, or maybe other mechanisms are at work in me.

YMMV--for example, Tyler appears to tolerate raw whole fruits much better than I do.

@PaleoPhil

I have no idea why no one thanked you for this incredible post.

Btw, I have the exact same experience as you - fruit causing acne. I have started ZC with tender vegetables a week ago.

My brother is from the medical world and had a hard time with me not getting food poisoning.

His moment of truth came in the middle of an argument when I said to him:  "So you are saying a caveman, who plucks a salmon out of a stream and bites into its flank, is in danger of dying of food poisoning?"

At that point I could see a light go on, as his argument changed to:  "Is it possible for me to get foods of that sort of quality?", which is a truly worthwhile question.  From then on, although we still differed, we were singing from the same hymn sheet.

This is absolutely golden. Going to save this. Thank you!

I have the exact same experience - more fruit causing acne and itchy skin on face and scalp; other symptoms include moderately chapped lips that nearly completely subsided after a day on zero carb (with couple tablespoons of raw honey - I stop eating when I feel a burn in my throat)

Raw unheated honey by "Y.S. Eco Bee Farms" brand available through iHerb.com does not trigger acne or itchy skin though.

I was just experimenting, I hadn't read that book you mentioned.

I also went through the exact same extreme swing from high-fat raw vegan to very low-fat raw vegan.

You experimented with high-fat raw vegan yourself?! How did you manage to get that idea yourself? haha. I would never try a diet without seeing a "Dr." or "Licensed physician" endorse it. Now I know better..of course that qualifications don't mean anything.

I think it's all good once someone (open-minded) starts experimenting with diets. They all pretty much end up with raw paleo  :P

What's with all these vegetable / herb names that I've never heard of... :o

hows about raw cheese or raw butter instead of cooked fat?

I made some "raw" pemmican with raw grass-fed beef marrow (soft/wet kind) and raw jerky powder before and it is still keeping good in the partial freezer. I have tasted it several times and it tastes alright.

Not sure about keeping "raw" pemmican made with raw fat outside of the fridge/freezer though, since some members here say that AGES accumulate over time with raw fats and they go rancid?

Not sure why lean meat doesn't go rancid but raw fat does when in room temp?

Yes, I ate it, and never had any problems with it. AV usually is in favour of fungi - after all, high-meat often has fungi in it.

Right. Just as I expected.

Strange that people always talk about "beneficial bacteria" but not "beneficial fungi" or "beneficial parasites". I remember vaguely some scientific report on people ingesting certain worms that cured their IBS or something...

I once lived for several months on nothing but 8-10 avocadoes daily plus lots of wild greens. LoL

Haha C_kid, I admire your courageous self experimentations. Were you following the teachings of Dr. Robert Young "The pH Miracle" at the time?

I also experimented on lots of avocado, nuts and raw green veggies before my high-fruit LFRV stint. I had terrible sweet cravings and would chew-spit bananas - I felt guilty for eating them...oh my, how screwed in the head I was at the time. I also had extreme fatigue at the time. Was an unpleasant experience.

Thanks a lot for the replies! You guys know too much

I, too, have found this to be the case. All that happens is that the outer skin/layer  goes green or blue due to fungi, but the inner core stays solid and doesn't rot at all. All to do with a lack of moisture.

So would Aajonus say that the fungi growing on 100% grass-fed marrow/fat/suet is healthy to eat? (similar to high meat good bacteria?)

@TylerDurden

Did you eat the blue/green fungi?

I have learned to keep the dried meat in the frig.  If it starts to smell rancid I trash it.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I was just questioning why/how raw lean meat jerky or raw dried fat would go "rancid"?!

Raw meat/fat (grass-fed assumed) should have enough beneficial bacteria in them to prevent them from going "rancid".

High meat smells absolutely horrible to us modern humans only because we're not accustomed to the smell, but is it "rancid"? No seems to be the answer.

Why is this even a concern? given the fact that raw meat / fat / marrow could be left to dry out in room temperature in the wild all the time?

I'm pretty sure most people here would not call the wild dried raw meat/fat "rancid". Correct?
